i apologize beforehand for the lengthy-ness of this...
Ok, so for those of you that dont know, Erie and I went shopping on tuesday November 11, 2008. We went to Spence Jewelers to get her ring cleaned and to also scout out a few possibilities for e-rings for me. Owenn and I had been there a couple weeks previously and he had found this beautiful proto-type ring but the tag was way out of our price range.
(*for those that dont know about the lovely Spence store, they have open showcases with proto-type rings made of metal and glass so that you can take them out and see what they look like on your finger without being hassled by salesmen. the tags are listed with an approximate amount that the ring would be worth, but depending on quality of gold and what diamond you choose, the price goes up or down by a bit... but back to the story*)
That day I had resolved in my head that the ring that Owenn picked out wasnt going to happen and Erie and I set out looking at tri-stone rings. Well a little bit later, I walked by the ring that Owenn picked out previously and picked it up (or what I thought was the exact one). Well it turns out that it was the exact same style but the stones were a bit smaller, therefore dropping the price within $400 of our budget. With this new knowledge, we set out to find someone to see if I could get the ring price closer to the budget. Luckily the man we ended up talking to was the general manager. He mentioned that he had a ring exactly like it in the showcase (the one with the rings with real diamonds in them). I walk over and there is my ring sitting there all sparkly and perfect. And the best part was it was 1/2 the price of our budget! On the phone with Owenn I got and he came down to the store and ended up buying it that day.
Then the wait...
He had originally planned on leaving it at his best friend's house til he had the day planned. However the next day he tells me that he needs to find out when Beth and Clay are off work because he has to go get something from them. Well of course my ears are perked at this, so we head over... nothing happened that night, though he did threaten to ask me to marry him while waiting in line for the WoW expansion pack. I told him I veto'd that. There was no way we were getting engaged doing that.
Thursday comes around with nothing. I really thought it would happen that night because it was our usual date night. However he was busy playing WoW that I ended up watching a movie by myself...
Friday I am getting ready to go to a dinner theater with my friend Zita. I had showered and gotten dressed. I came downstairs before getting my make-up on to get his opinion on what I was wearing. He told me how beautiful I was and that he really wanted to put a ring on my finger. To this I replied, 'only if you want to'. He reached up to his hiding place where he had stashed the ring earlier and said 'I really want to. Kim, will you marry me?'. At this point i'm trying not to cry and I say 'Yes of course' and he slides the ring on my finger!
It wasnt dinner and whatever, but it was simple and truly us. I love it!
