Cailen and I are writing our own ceremony (posted in my journal!). For the reading we have a crazy idea to somehow randomly assign each of the six paragraphs to one of the guests when they arrive to the wedding. We would print out the reading, tell them where it comes in the ceremony, and bold the lines they are to read. I feel confident that some of my guests can do this, but I don't trust everyone, nor do I really want someones date who I don't really know randomly getting picked. So I need to figure out how to make it "random", but with some sort of guidelines.

I'm expected around 75 guests, so they can just stand up at their chair and read I think. Or we can have them all come down front I guess.

Any suggestions on how we can pull this off?

READING
You share today the joy of a deep commitment
And a sacred trust, and you have given each other
The most precious gift of love

Treasure it, nurture it and encourage it
With all the honesty you used in creating it

You are sharing something rare and beautiful
Always speak the truth and listen attentively
So that you may understand each others thoughts and intentions

Inspire each other by sharing your accomplishments
Say I love you often to retain the warmth between you

Laugh a lot too, even when you are angry
Remember you are each other’s best friend

Stand together and for each other always
May each day be a blessing
And the fulfillment of your dreams.

I know in theater a lot of times they will tape something underneath the chairs and guests look to see if they've won something. If your ushers know where to seat people (assuming you have ushers), you could hide selections under chairs in rows where you know there won't be random people sitting.

I dunno. You might just want to ambush people as they come in.

Are you going to have a guest book attendant? Or who will you have explain this to them? Maybe it could be every 10th person that comes, starting with the first person. That way, if it is a couple where one of them is just a date that you might not know, the person explaining it to them can give it to the person you know. You would just have to make sure the one in charge of it knows your guest list well and knows who are the dates and who are the ones you know.

Umm would that not scare your guests? I know if I was ambushed to do a reading while I would do it I would not be paying attention to anything before hand as I would be reading my bit to make sure I didn't rush it or mumble it.
It sounds like a neat idea but I don't think it would work even the best readers in the world can get caught on the hop so to speak and make a hash of it. I think if you wanted to do it as different readers pick them out and give them a bit to read and number the paragraphs so that they know when to stand up and speak.
