Have any of you made your own? If so, what instructions did you use?
I want to make a University of Texas one to throw to surprise my FH and our majority of UT alum guests, and I'm looking for a little help in the instructions area! I figure I can do it on my own, but I'd rather have a pattern or instructions of some sort :)

Hey!
I didn't know if you were really excited about making it yourself, but there are places on ebay that sell college team garters (I'm getting University of Wisconsin garters!).
This ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/Morning-Glory-Garters_W0QQdptZ0QQsclZ0QQsspagenameZWD5QQtZkm) is the one I am going through. If she doesn't happen to have exatcly what you're looking for, she'll make it for you!! Anyway, I thought I'd pass that along for you! :)

I'm so not crafty enough to make my own, lol.
My mom bought both of mine:

I'm keeping the nicer one...the blue one will be the one to get tossed.

Mandy -- I know, I already e-mailed her actually and they don't have the UT Longhorns material, ugh! She said they're still looking though.
I think I'll just DIY, it can't be that hard!
I have one from my big sister in sorority that I'll wear and keep (it's my something blue because of the ribbon on ). It's from Victoria's secret and very pretty!

I made the one I wore to the wedding -- however, I had no directions, and I don't know that I could walk you through it...really it isn't htat hard!

I used the person that Mandy posted and am thrilled with my garter, I give her 2 thumbs up.

I made my own with some light blue silk. It wasn't hard at all, just lots of careful ironing. I didn't want any lace on it, so it ended up looing practically like this one:

Brought mine at a party store in there wedding section.
One is pink and the other is Ivory. Don't know which one is for the toss and which to keep.

We aren't doing the garter toss..
But my mom insisted I get one anyways so I would have my something "Blue"..
So I have a blue wilton garter..then recently bought a red one to match the trim in my dress just cause it was red and cheap.

OctoberBride - your fancy one is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, in ivory! Did she buy it online? I'd love to know where if she did. I may end up making my own if I can't find something like this. I've no doubt I can make one, but with everything going on right now with work and life, I just don't have the time!
Thanks!

I actually made both of my garters.... I didn't use instructions though. I had made my garter for fh senior prom a few years ago with fmil help and I remembered how we did it so I just went from memory. Here is a pick of both garters I made for the wedding...

I actually did make a garter. It turned out hideous b/c of the material that I used haha, but if anybody is interested in making one...they are quite easy to make. It is basically sewing up 2 pieces of fabric, and then pulling elastic through as the fabric gets scrunchy.
I'm not sure which one I'm going to get yet but I'm thinking Edmonton Oilers (Option 1 (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Wedding-Garter-Set-Handcrafted-w-EDMONTON-OILERS-Fabric_W0QQitemZ330275577708QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em330275577708&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318) or 2 (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Wedding-Garter-Set-Handcrafted-EDMONTON-OILERS_W0QQitemZ330282591757QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em330282591757&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318)) or possibly Spiderman (Option 1 (http://cgi.ebay.ca/SPIDERMAN-wedding-garter-set-Superheroes-bridal-garters_W0QQitemZ250296711422QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem250296711422&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318) or 2 (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11259111)) since my fiance loves both of those and well in my opinion a guy is going to be catching it so we want it to be something that he'll like and/or at least get a laugh from people! Plus, my fiance keeps saying that it's his wedding too and that he needs to have stuff he likes, like hockey and/or comic stuff at our wedding so I'm trying to give him as much as I can without our wedding looking like the hockey hall of fame or a comic book convention or something, lol!
