So I had originally loved the idea of having a candy buffet at the reception but after tallying up the costs for everything for this wedding, im wondering if its worth it. So I have two questions for you:
1. Was it worth it? Did you have any additional favors to go with the buffet or was that enough?
2. What did you do with all the vases afterwards? I just cant imagine having that many vases that I have nothing to put in and taking up space in my already cramped house!
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Didn't have one but here are my thoughts anyways  Most people I have known/heard that had them said that they were a huge hit. I would consider the candy buffet as the favors.
If you don't want to keep whatever you put the candy in afterwards you could always give them away, sell them, donate them.

We had a candy buffet!
1. It was totally worth it. Most of the candy and supplies (including the vases) we got from the Buck or Two store. Everyone LOVED it, and we included some non-edible things, like glow-sticks and sparklers, that the kids could play with. We had pretty treat bags for people to fill up, and they were in the same colours as our flowers.
We did have an additional favour (mints in tins), but we totally didn't have to, and most people didn't even take their tins. So, if anything, I would say the tins were more of a waste than the candy buffet was.
2. The vases were super cheap (like $2 each), so we didn't care about selling them. We gave most of them away, and kept a few that I wanted. My MIL took a few, my mom, my sisters... Basically, we packed everything up and let everyone pick through the boxes and take whatever they wanted. (I picked out my choices first, obviously.) :)
Because everyone loves photos:
Here's one of the table being set up. It wasn't huge or fancy, but everyone LOVED it. There was hardly any candy left, by the time we arrived for the reception! Everyone mowed through it during the cocktail hour!

We haven't had our wedding yet, but I plan on giving away the jars that I don't want or just bringing them to the thrift store. They really weren't that much where Id worry about selling them

Candy buffets are fun. People love candy and would rather be able to pick their "favor" than having one given to them. I promise you that the candy will be more expensive than the jars, though. It can be pricey but it can also (still) be one of the biggest hits of your reception. How about renaming all the candy with something relevant to you and FH? Label everything with the wedding name and then the real name.

You are right that the candy can get expensive especially if you are set on doing certain colors like I am. But, I still think it's not much over what we would have spent if we had done individual favors

Didn't have one but been to weddings that did. Actually I was in the weddings and at the first one I missed all the candy except for the M&M's. That table was hidden in the corner. At the second one, the tables were near the gift table and some one refilled the vases later on in the evening.
Both weddings were within the same family so the vases were reused, but I do believe they were orginally 'borrowed' from some one else. Ask around friends and family if they have vases to borrow. The scoops were bought but were cheap. I believe from Michael's.
If you can, I recommend you get some one to make chocolate covered pretzels or chocolate covered pretzel nuggets with caramel drizzeled across. I could really go for those now.
arielle, if you trust your family from denver to bring them out safely, i have some vases from my centerpieces i'd be happy to give you....

We didn't do it for the wedding, but I'm planning on it for our vow renewal. Since we're doing a citrus theme (lemon, lime, orange, and pink grapefruit) colors, I'm choosing candy that is one of these 4 colors (skittles, m&ms, starburst, etc). We might have personalized m&ms. Instead of vases for the candies, we're just going to put them in pitchers and glasses (which can later be used in our kitchen).

We had a pretty big candy buffet and it was costly ($600+) but it was 110% worth it. We still hear about it 5 years later. At that time no one had seen one before, so that might have had something to do with it.
2. What did you do with all the vases afterwards? I just cant imagine having that many vases that I have nothing to put in and taking up space in my already cramped house!
I used them around the house and stored them a while, several broke and I was secretly glad when they did, I've loaned them out for other people to use, and sold a few in a garage sale. I still have a few left and they do take up space, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them.
