Is it possible for a shampoo to make your hair fall out? Thanks to a friend of mine I tried Suave Professionals moistureizing shampoo...I used it for 4 days and I started noticing big chunks of my hair coming out. Anyway...my hair is now very dry, thin and damaged. Can anyone suggest a good shampoo and conditioner I can use to try and fix it?

It's possible that shampoo can build up and block the follicles, but not in 4 days, really. Have you been under a lot of stress lately? That is usually the cause of hair loss. It might just be that it is a harsher shampoo than you're used to, and it's not detangling as well as your old one, therefore pulling your hair out.

I've always recommended the L'Oreal Vive products to my clients, but I also love the Garnier Fructis collections.

I haven't heard of shampoo making your hair fall out; I was going to ask what Heather asked, are you under a lot of stress?

I absolutely LOVE Nexxus Phyto-Organics Hydruss Moisturizing Shampoo and the Babassu Mud Revitalizing Hair Treatment. When I moved to CA from GA, my hair dried out big time. I called my hairdresser in Atlanta and she told me to use these products and they made a HUGE difference. It's a little on the expensive side, but it doesn't take much, so it lasts a while and well worth it.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Other things can make your hair fall out also. Stress and thyroid imbalance are just 2 of many.

I know this is going to sound weird, but have you tried Horse & Mane Shampoo. It's original use is for horses (hence the name), but I used it a while ago, and it seemed to help thicken.

I'd really be surprised if after 4 days something like that happened.

I lost a BUNCH of hair some years back, I actually went to the doc to for it. At first I thought it was a silicone based product I was using on my hair. CONVINCED it was that. I had been using it for sometime too, so it seemed logical.

Had my thyroid tested and it came back fine. Doc said it could just be...that since hair goes through period of rest and growth, that I had it a rest phase and the follicles just decided to dump a bunch of strands at once. I don't know if I believe that was the cause b/c I literally had spots that looked like they were balding. Still makes me want to cry when I think about it, it was that bad. But I do find that taking better care of my hair helps with hair loss now (and everything that I lost did eventually grow back)

I find I lose less hair when I stay away from shampoos with SLS. Lots of conditioner and always using a wide tooth comb when wet makes a huge difference.
