Before I tell you my proposal story, I probably need to tell you all a little bit about my fiance, Jacob. He has quite the sense of humor (Mel, you know this haha), and one of his favorite things to do is surprise me. I'm absolutely okay with that because I love surprises!!! :hehe:
Alrighty! So I knew I wanted to marry Jacob on our first date (May 15, 2009). My mother was in town visiting me (and because Jacob is a software consultant and travels Monday-Thursday) and we had a date set up for after synagogue on a Friday night. The date went swimmingly and I asked if he wanted to join my mom and I at a movie the next day - needless to say, my mother was on our second and third date. She decided that he was too skinny and needed a nice Jewish mother to make him a homemade dinner, so he came over the next day (for our third date). My mother knew we would get married after that. Anyway, I digress.
My Jacob and I have been inseparable since then. We spent every weekend together after he got home from whatever customer he was assigned to switching from staying at my place or his. We started officially living together at the end of February 2010 and moved to Denver, CO in May 2010. Pretty much since we met, we knew we'd get married, but after we moved in together and moved to Denver, we started talking about it. We went to his cousin's wedding in Chicago in May 2010 over Memorial Day and really started talking about it. We talked about what we liked and didn't like, blah blah. In June, Jacob decided that he needed to throw me off his scent, so he said - I love you, I want to marry you, but I think it would be smart to wait until you graduate from law school. Mind you this would be in 2013. But, of course I love him and would wait forever for him, so I said I was ok with that!
In July, he asked me to look at the Costco website to see if I saw any rings I liked. Apparently, I found out later, that he wanted to see if I would be okay with a ring from Costco. Of course, I was. I saw this ring on the website that literally took my breath away and I sent it to him. Again, after the fact, he said he had picked this same ring out for me a few months before. After I saw the ring, I didn't think anything of it cause he said he wanted to wait. At the end of July, we went to visit my parents in Spokane, WA and apparently while we were there, Jacob asked my dad for his permission to marry me, which I told him was very important to me. My daddy said yes. :)
So Jacob and I return home on a Wednesday and he said he wanted to go to the gym, which was fine with me because I wanted to catch up on my Bethanny Getting Married? I noticed he was gone longer than normal, but I didn't think anything of that either. He eventually comes in the door and isn't quite as flushed as he normally is after the gym, but again, didn't think anything of it. I just thought he was in great shape! I found out the next day that he had gone to his aunt's house outside of Denver to pick up my ring and when he came back, he knew I'd say something if he wasn't red at all, so he ran up and down the stairs a bunch of times! (The ring he ordered off the Costco website!)
The next morning, I am getting dressed and unpacking from our trip and Jacob asks me if I want to go with him to the insurance agent, which I knew he needed to go to for his car insurance, so I was like sure. He was acting weird though, and he asked me to sit down on the couch. I was just like oooookay.....So he turns on the cheesiest soft rock on the cable box (it was Barry Manilow - no joke) and sits next to me. Now I've figured out something is up, but I still believe that he wanted to wait. Anyway, he says to me, "Stacie, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You are the most important part of my life. [pulls ring out of pocket and gets down on one knee in front of me] Will you m-" He can't get the question out before I jump on him and knock him backwards, burst into tears, put the ring on the coffee table and say "yes of course" boo hoo boo hoo! He puts the ring on me, and he can get the rest of the question out.
This was 4 days before law school was supposed to start and we picked out every major vendor (place, food, photographer, date, rabbi, among other things) before I started school.
So that's our story!!!
