Poloke
08-25-2006, 09:57 AM
Thats a change from the norm! On the "other" site it was a pretty booming area... meh, well, more for us! LOL

08-25-2006, 01:30 PM
Maybe the "northeastern" part could be cut out for more visitors?;)

Becki
08-28-2006, 06:19 PM
Ok, so I'm an idiot. I started this thread and then for some reason it didn't make it on my subsciption list, so I never noticed anyone posting. That of course meant I haven't looked at it since the day I started it :caught:
Oooops.
I didn't want anyone to think I was ignoring them. I really wasn't... I'm just an idiot sometimes :goofy:
septbride
08-28-2006, 07:13 PM
Well it's great to see your back!!!
Becki
08-28-2006, 07:15 PM
So anyway... now that I'm here, what'd I miss?
septbride
08-28-2006, 07:20 PM
Not too much, someone suggested changing the name of the thread to just pa brides to get more visitors!
Becki
08-28-2006, 07:23 PM
I guess I should explain the original title. Since I live in Florida and am getting married in Stroudsburg, PA I always like to meet up with other people who might be in that area. I know a little about the area since my parents live across the border in NJ and I went to college in Bethlehem. So that was the original reason behind the title.
Of course, if we can get more PA brides here then that'll make me happy so I happily changed the title :floating:
I just noticed that although I changed the title of the thread, it is showing up the same as before. Any ideas?
septbride
08-28-2006, 07:30 PM
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with many of the options on here. I can't help you out, but I'm sure miss sparky can, whenever she decides to join us again!!!! She is the best
Poloke
08-30-2006, 02:37 AM
Aww thanks beth!
Um, beckii... maybe you should ask a MOD (*Tanya*) what to do...if worse comes to worse, start a new thread w/ PA brides... and ask for this whole thing to be deleted. I know there are a few more ladies from out lancaster/ hershey way that i have seen around and would love to invite them in and have a big ol' happy bunch of PA brides goin'. :)
septbride
08-31-2006, 09:15 AM

:wavey: Hey girls. I'm Mandy, I'm from Duncansville. (about 1.5 hours east of Pittsburgh)
I was married 9/13/03. Back in UW days, there were a fair amount of PA brides, but I'm pretty sure most of the ones I recall are married. I just came back because I love weddings, I'm great friends with Lacie (one of the CLs) and my little sister is getting married next year (tentatively) and I am her MOH.

here is a question of the day- what is your favorite thing about fall...aside from halloween?
septbride
09-21-2006, 05:36 AM
I love the cooler weather, not freezing, cooler. love all the color changes. And the decorations are the best!
Poloke
09-21-2006, 06:55 AM
To answer my own question: The cool brisk breezes, hot apple cider, county fairs, the smell of burn barrels, and the look of the mountains with all those vibrant punches of color dotting them. And of course the throw back from childhood- jumping in a huge pile of leaves!
angie
09-23-2006, 10:53 AM
What I love about fall...
fall foliage, fall decor, the attire (darker colored clothes and wearing pants vs. shorts), baseball playoffs and my birthday.:heee:

Beth,
I got my gown at that shop and when i asked on teh phone before i got there they informed me that they bring the gowns to you. I guess that is how they did it. I dunno, it worked for me...4th one they brought was the one. Its okay that you didn't find the gown on your first trip out gown shopping... each store is different and unique, you'll find one that fits your needs and will have YOUR GOWN!!!!
Good luck, don't let this experience discourage you.
angie
09-27-2006, 12:40 AM
Paula...No, I haven't checked out Kari's HM pictures yet. A couple people suggested that to me too!
Beth... That is really weird about the bridal shop not allowing you to look at the dresses on your own. I went to 5 different stores (one store twice).I tried on over 30 dresses before I found the one I knew was "the one". It was discouraging midway through searching, but it is so worth it in the end.
Carol...Your girls are darling.
Poloke
09-27-2006, 12:32 PM
Angie,
Beth went to the shop i got my gown from. They've been in business for like 30 years so uh, i guess this is just how they do it. I was at several other shops before this one, and this was the ONLY shop that brought gowns out to you. It was odd, considering my prior experiences, but then it was nice too and i didn't mind.
Basically the lady asked me what i liked and wanted. So i did and told her what really looks horrid on my(stapless, halters, cap sleeves) so she brought out stuff that more suited my likings. She hit my style dead on, on gown #4. That dress was everything that I could not find in a gown anywhere that i looked or even online. The gown posted in my journal is almost 100 percent identical b/c there is no pic of my gown online.
I hope everything works out fine for Beth, and I know it all will. I was discouraged after all the shops i went to and said that this was the last shop i would go to before just ordering one online. I was so nervous & worried, I joked w/ mom on the way to the shop...we were leaving Bethlehem- my hometown(also where the marshmallow Peeps are made) and saw the yellow peeps VW beetle car go by. I said to mom- that thing is good luck, maybe its a sign. Well, i ordered my gown that day, so maybe it was :)
septbride
09-28-2006, 09:35 PM
Hi Angie - this was the first time I tried on dresses, so it was weird to not be able to pick them out. My first time in a bridal shop was at davids bridal, just to look around. didn't try anything on. But I am still on the search for the perfect dress!
Paula - great to hear you found your dress that day! They were great down there. I was just disappointed since the dress I loved, I couldn't find at first, since I thought it was white. But now I am going to continue my search, and if I find nothing, Pink it is :)

Hey ladies :hiya:
I wanted to jump in here because I will become a PA wife in August! DH and I just found out that he got into graduate school at Shippensburg U (near Chambersburg/Gettysburg) so we will be moving this summer! It's a huge move for us (about 7-8 hours away from home) so I'm trying to do my research about the state, apartments/houses, jobs, etc. Thought this was a good place to start :heee:

First question...am I going to be shunned because I'm a Browns fan and not a Steelers fan? :hehe:
Poloke
10-15-2006, 09:22 PM
no, you won't be shunned- not unless you are living very close to pittsburgh.
Butfor Philly- if you ain't an eagles fan there, er, um, don't advertise it. LOL
septbride
10-15-2006, 10:08 PM
Don't care for either of them! :)
angie
10-15-2006, 11:22 PM
Welcome Sara! I was thinking Shippensburg was closer to Philly than Pittsburgh, so you might run into more Eagles fans. Who knows though because the university isn't particularly close to either city.
Eagles fans are umm....err... rather passionate. Like you can gather from what Paula said, you can expect some trouble.:hehe: It could be a lot worse though. If you were a Cowboys or a Giants fan, you'd have to endure A LOT of ribbing!

10-19-2006, 11:05 AM
well guess what girls I am BACK lol have you all missed me? things have been hectic, lately but starting to calm down alot now so i can actually post, i have posted some more pics on my journal things more to post but have to get more pics taken soon so, will do that asap, well getting the E pics done sometime this weekend so that should be neat to see considering the fact that the FH is really making a compromise on this with me he has this weird belief that every time he gets his pic taken he gets sick ( his native american heritage) but he agreed to do it for me cuz him loves me lol. we have been making some more decisions on things about the wedding little things but making progress going to look at cakes sometime this week, gettn the e pics done, little things but they seem to be helping i feel like i have 50 tasks started and none of them done lol, i can only imagine how i am going to feel as the countdown is getting closer, hey anyone have any idea when i send out STD's? i am so wedding illiterate lol, well i will post more again later off to the bank and then home to do some housework boy that could take me until the wedding to get done lol, damn maid i am going to have to fire her she never shows up anymore lol :laugh3: :laugh3: well chat later all tootles

Hi carol-
I'm glad to see you here! We know you have a billion things on your plate but dang, its great to hear your updates. Std's are sent SIX MONTHS prior to the wedding, meaning yours should be in the mailbox by MARCH 4th. I know how you feel about 50 little things started & nothing finished- I feel like i have a ton of loose ends to match up!
We are getting our e-pics done this weekend too- please don't forget to post them!:)
The thing your FH has about the pictures is not so unusual... Amish & Mennonite do not allow themselves to be photographed as they say it is not good for their souls. Wait until the wedding day, FH is in for a shock....shhhh don't tell him that. LOL.
YOU have a maid? pshhhhtt! I'm soooo jealous! I wish i had a laundry fairy!

no, I'm south. I'm south of allentown. I'm in Bucks county. They call it bucks b/c if you don't have alot of bucks... you're screwed here.... LOL.
We won't buy a house, we can't afford a 300k home even if both of us were FT. Its sick around here. Ahhh eventually, one day, we will move and have a home:)

septbride
10-26-2006, 07:59 AM
Wow, I am completely wrong, I thought you were in the hazleton area! Where the hell have I been??????
My sister lives in Coplay, and they can't afford a house either. A house that you would buy in my area for say, $60,000, runs about $250,000 down her way. Makes it hard for people to buy a decent house.
Poloke
10-26-2006, 10:36 AM
Septbride- I know where coplay is- just outside of whitehall in the valley!
Ok, I'm originally from bethlehem- your sis can tell you that is just across the lehigh valley from her! However, I now live in bucks county, 1/2 hr. south of the lehigh valley.
The wedding is in Hazleton, which is where both my mom and dad's families are originally from. My mom grew up in Hazleton, my dad in Bethlehem, and when they married they stayed down in Bethlehem b/c my dad worked at the Steel. My aunt M (mom's sis) still lives up in Hazleton, amongst other relatives (mostly cousins & aunts) so I am very familiar with the town.
John had worked in Hazleton after college, so he's familiar too. John's side of the family is all from Scranton or farther north of Scranton, so in all fairness....Hazleton is the half way mark for both his sides & mine to travel to. That is how we ended up having the wedding there. Ok, and slight confession- we get way more for our money up there than we would down in Bethlehem, or anywhere in the lehigh valley, or anywhere in bucks county. *whew* hope that makes sense how I wrote it all...
angie
10-26-2006, 01:10 PM
My town borders NE Philly, so yeah, the cost of living is higher. When we were looking for our wedding place, I suggested possibly going into the Poconos or Lancaster area for a more reasonable rate. Bill wouldn't hear of it as the vast majority of our guests are in the Philly area and it wouldn't be fair to have everybody travel. It would be different if most of our guests were OOT.
I used to date a guy for a few months in White hall! I think it's Whitehall. White something outside of Allentown...I can't believe I forgot.
Poloke
10-26-2006, 04:44 PM
yup, Whitehall. The lehigh valley is sadly going down the dumper! Too many ppl are moving to the area and crowding it up. there is hardly any farmland anymore...its all those new fangled condos and cookie cutter houses. *ick*
septbride
10-26-2006, 08:22 PM
Wow, now I understand! See, all this talk about your wedding up near/in Hazelton threw me off!!! That's why I assumed you were from there. well I learned my lesson from assuming :asshat:
oh and Paula, what is a cookie cutter house?
Poloke
10-26-2006, 11:00 PM
Its those expensive ass developments where the houses are like 400K plus, and they use one designer/builder/architect to make all the houses. So you have like 4 or 5 models of homes to decide from when you buy land in the development. That is how I came about saying "cookie Cutter" houses.
