tell us where you are originally from and moving back to.
I grew up in Owatonna, which is about 60 miles south of the Cities on I-35. In the past several years, we've become well known as the home of Cabelas. DH and I are planning to move to MN in the summer of 2008. We're planning to settle in the Rochester area. I'd like to get a place out in the country in the surrounding area, but be close enough that driving into Rochester for work won't be a big deal.
Is she signed up here yet and I have totally missed her??
Nope, not yet, I've almost got her convinced that she needs to get her bum over here, but she's busy with showers and last minute planning right now.
*TanyaJeanne*

*TanyaJeanne*
07-19-2006, 12:32 AM
Hey Malissa! Where are you from in MN?
Malissa
07-19-2006, 09:34 AM
I'm from Cottage Grove, suburb of St. Paul.
Aramelle
07-19-2006, 07:52 PM
Welcome, Malissa. :)
Tanya, please forgive me as I'm drawing a blank on where you and Chris are getting married. If there is a decent size mall in the area, I would check with the department stores that do makeup. You may be able to hire one of the girls there to come to your place/hotel/etc for the day to do it.
*TanyaJeanne*
07-19-2006, 07:54 PM
I am from Saint Cloud, and getting married here as well...So I should check with herbergers, etc?
Aramelle
07-19-2006, 10:31 PM
Saint Cloud...you'd think I could remember that since I have a couple of relatives that went to college there, huh? :o
Yes, I would definitely check with them. Most of those stores have at least a Clinique counter; I know our Macys also has a MAC counter, if you have one of those.
*TanyaJeanne*
07-20-2006, 10:08 AM
Nope no Macy's. :(
I have heard such good things about MAC and there isn't one around me for a couple hours
Herbergers has a clinique counter for sure. Otherwise I haven't much for suggestions, since I'm probably doing my own makeup.
Kirsten

Name and Age? Kirsten, 42
SO's Name and Age? Zack, 27

Anything else to add? You probably won't see me much. . . I'm desperately trying to "fix" the wedding dress pattern so that it will fit me properly and get it done on time. But I'm sorta here.
Nope, not yet, I've almost got her convinced that she needs to get her bum over here, but she's busy with showers and last minute planning right now.
Very busy with showers and stuff. I will hopefully get some stuff up (eventually) though.
*TanyaJeanne*

Name and Age? Julie 26
SO's Name and Age? Tano (nickname that EVERYONE calls him) 32
How long have you been together? 5 TOO long years
Wedding Date? September 23, 2006

Kirsten
07-27-2006, 12:09 PM
I've made avas and small graphics before, but I don't think I consider myself a "guru."
DO we need a slogan? You know like "Weddings on a stick, eh."

YAY! :jump4joy: someone got my joke. I was worried that I would be my usual self and be sooooooo obscure no one would get it.
*TanyaJeanne*
07-27-2006, 01:34 PM
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM state fair...I wish I could go this year...I want my cheese curd fix!
I totally got the "on a stick" reference, course, then I think of "Minnesotans on a Stick" and I get an uncomfortable looking picture in my head :o

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM state fair...I wish I could go this year...I want my cheese curd fix!
Me, too. I guess I'll just have to take Zack next year.. . we can celebrate our first anniversary eating food on a stick. Not sure I wanna try that deep fried pickle though. This year it's "hot dish on a stick" with a cream of mushroom dipping sauce.
I totally got the "on a stick" reference, course, then I think of "Minnesotans on a Stick" and I get an uncomfortable looking picture in my head :o
Um, ew.
Ok, how about this slogan. . . .
Image 1: "Minnesota Brides"
Image 2: "Yah, sure. You betcha."
Aramelle
07-28-2006, 10:51 AM
Okay, now you've all got me craving fair food even more than I was! This is the second summer now that I haven't been able to be to any of them. I've been trying for weeks to convince DH that we should fly home for Labor Day weekend. I want to spend one day at the State Fair and one at the Renaissance Festival. For some reason, he doesn't seem to think those are good enough reasons to spend all that money on the trip. :(
Image 1: "Minnesota Brides"
Image 2: "Yah, sure. You betcha."
LOL...I think that's the perfect slogan, Kirsten! :laugh3: I can make blinkies, and I'd be glad to do it if there isn't anyone else who wants to. I'm not feeling well today, and am about to head back to bed. I can work on it later this weekend if you all want me to, though. Any preferences/suggestions for colors or anything?
Oh my goodness Kirsten, that is perfect! Aramelle go ahead and make one up!
Colors colors...hmmm, I'm not sure, but you could do something like a minnesota license plate, which is white and blue, or you could put a loon on one side. Oooh, actually I like that, do a black loon silouette on the left side, and use blue writing with a white background...
anyone else?
*TanyaJeanne*
07-28-2006, 03:30 PM
I think that is cute!! :)
*TanyaJeanne*
07-28-2006, 06:50 PM
I know a lot of us are super busy with upcoming weddings etc...but would any of you ever want to do a MN meeting later this year?
I saw tanya started one for her area...
I think it would be fun!

07-28-2006, 07:47 PM
Well, I think that sounds like a blast. Unfortunately, I only have one weekend when I'll be in MN this year. After that, I probably won't be back until we move back in 2008. :(
So, unless you want to make it somewhere in The Cities on Sunday, Oct 29, I'll have to just "be there in spirit." :p
Dang, I couldn't do it that day...but really, we aren't too far from each other, we could probably meet in Alexandria or something. As long as it's not too extravagant, I'm sure we could do it. I'd say we will have to probably push it into November now though, since we all seem to have September weddings :) Course, if it's just a weekend thing, I might be able to do October (I have two weddings so far).
Anyone else? And is anyone working on our blinkie?
Aramelle
07-28-2006, 10:54 PM
And is anyone working on our blinkie?
I've been playing around with something, but I'm not sure how great it's going to be. I can't find a loon that still looks decent when resized to fit.
Okay ladies, I did it, now I just need to find someone to put them together for us.
Here is what I came up with:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v643/pwrpufgirlz/MNBRIDES01.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v643/pwrpufgirlz/MNBRIDES02.jpg
I even sampled the dark blue from the MN license plate! The gradient was already in photoshop, so I didn't even have to do much to that!
hehehe, I bet the groom thought I left him out?

I don't suppose there's anyway you'd do another one with a frame before the Brides one that says "Honorary Member"??? Pretty please? :p
yes ma'am, I'll take care of it!
Here you go!

She'd better make an honorary groom one!
Aramelle
07-29-2006, 12:13 AM
I better, huh? What if I don't wanna? :p
then your poor poor hubby does not get one :( and that's just sad!
Jimbo
07-29-2006, 12:17 AM
Are you trying to say I am sad :|

07-29-2006, 12:28 AM

hahaha, no no, not sad in a bad way :P
Is there a *good* way to be sad??
I can't believe it. . . I went to the lake and there's all sorts of activity here. Wow! Maybe I should go out of town more often??
The blinkie looks great! I'm going to copy it to my account so I can use it, too.
hahah, I didn't say HE was sad, I said it would be sad if he couldn't have a blinkie of his own! Darn you people twisting my words around.
So how is everyone doing with the heat? We reached record highs yesterday of 103 (heat indicies said it felt like 115!) and I've heard it was about as hot all over the state. I feel bad for anyone without A/C right now, that's for sure. It was just miserable sleeping last night.
Kirsten
07-31-2006, 01:31 PM
Jaci - At the lake it was nearly 30 degrees cooler. It also rained Friday and Saturday nights (about 1" each time). It was nice to get out of the heat and AC. I can't believe it's just as hot in Moorhead as it is in the Twin Cities!
I don't know about the rest of you, but even with AC I'm miserable. I've started sleeping in the living room (on the futon) because it's hot in the bedroom (on the 2nd floor of the house).
The good news is that it looks like the heat will break around Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday. This weekend should be nice, which is awesome because it's my niece's softball tournament weekend.
*TanyaJeanne*
07-31-2006, 01:40 PM
Ya its gross around my area as well, it was in the 100's pretty much all weekend and it is is 95 today...I want rain!!!!
It would also be nice to have weather in the 70's again...lol
Kirsten
07-31-2006, 01:46 PM
You know the sad thing? When it's -20 degrees we'll all want it to be 90 again!
*TanyaJeanne*
07-31-2006, 01:48 PM
Very true...lol
*TanyaJeanne*
07-31-2006, 01:49 PM
How about for a happy medium....50-60 lol
I'll take 72!
It's supposed to rain today (I think it already has a couple of times) but still be pretty miserable. I just don't want rain tomorrow, I have a street fair thingy to do and we already were rained out last weekend.
*TanyaJeanne*
07-31-2006, 02:01 PM
It rained on saturday for maybe a half hour...it was such a tease...I want it to thunderstorm, and lightning hard! hehe! I love storms!
teehee, tanya, tell your silly groom to use this: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a252/Aramelle/Jaci_MNGroomBlinkie_Animated.gif
rather than have the two lined up like he does :)
Kirsten
07-31-2006, 06:35 PM
72 sounds good to me Jaci!
It's supposed to rain tonight. I wish I could find out if it was going to - I'd turn off the AC and open some windows. It's getting kinda stale in the house. You know, stale like "February-stale" when the furnace has been on for months? I need a breeze.

*TanyaJeanne*
07-31-2006, 08:22 PM
Good job :)
aww, you two are so cute :P
Did it rain Kirsten? I'm pretty sure it rained here, it got really nice right after sunset, so I went out and pulled weeds (my poor plants were being strangled, I pulled more weeds than I even had plants in my garden!) and watered and stuff. Hopefully that'll help actually get a pepper off those plants :P
*TanyaJeanne*
08-01-2006, 10:19 AM
We got inches and inches of rain. It started down pouring here around 7pm and didnt stop until about midnight!!
Kirsten
08-01-2006, 11:09 PM
We didn't get any rain last night until late - after midnight. But it rained buckets today. I work in the SW corner of the Twin Cities (Edina, actually) and it really rained out there. Tonight (about 5 pm ish) we got some serious rain in my suburb (North St. Paul). I think I can actually hear the grass growing in the back yard. . . . ;)
yay for growing grass! My plants in my garden don't look limp anymore, so yay for erectness! :hehe:
Kirsten
08-03-2006, 07:19 AM
yay for growing grass! My plants in my garden don't look limp anymore, so yay for erectness! :hehe:
You goofball! :hehe:
Not much happening on my end. I still have this stupid cold, but I did manage to put the sleeves in my dress last night. Tonight I start cutting out the skirt.
Yeah, you know, we keep hearing all these wonderful stories about this so called "dress" but as of yes we haven't had any indication there really is said "dress" because we haven't seen any photos.
weird?
:hehe:
*TanyaJeanne*
08-08-2006, 10:42 AM

Hey brides & grooms. . . . don't know if you'd "heard" but I was sick for 3 weeks (sinus infection). My main intake for calories during that time was cough drops and cough syrup. It was grim.
Now I'm healthy, but the wedding planning is kicking my butt. IN the last 3 weeks I've:
Finished sewing my dress and Momzilla is working on the hem
Started the MOH's dress and did a rough fit (it fits)
Baked 14 Dutch Apple pies for the reception (with apples from the local orchard)
Re-scheduled the family garage sale (to next spring)
Cleaned the house
Done waaaaaaaaaay too much laundry (Zack has too many clothes)
Finished the bathroom trays
Finished the card box
Finished the bookmarks
Made "drink tickets" for the reception
Did the seating arrangements
Met with the baker and did the last minute stuff
And tonight, we meet with the DJ.
I'm going to be happy when the wedding planning is done and I can get some sleep!
Don't plan on seeing me much in the next 9 days. . . I'm kinda busy, don'tcha know? :kimgrill:

Sorry I haven't been around much. Friday night my 88 year old grandmother broke her hip! She lives with Dad and Momzilla so she got to the hospital right away, but it's been one trip to the hospital after another. Plus, it was Dad's 60th birthday this weekend. We (finally) got to take him out for a meal (breakfast buffet. Mmmmmmm, waffles!)
As a result, I didn't get as much done on the Wedding Day Story as I would have liked. I've gotten as far as the first dance, but I still have 4 more hours to write about, and then the gift opening.
Oh, and I'm up to 1K non-pro photos so far () and I still haven't gotten them from everyone. Here's a teaser!

Hey! That's a familiar face! :p Jaci, I'm still so jealous you got to be there. Kirsten, you were beautiful! I love your dress. :D
Aramelle, that dress was just fantastic. If you didn't already know, Kirsten and her mom did it (Kirsten, you sewed it, your mom hemmed it, correct?). I was just amazed by how un-homemade it looked, definitely a stark contrast from the homemade dress I saw at the wedding I photographed on Friday.

Yep, I altered and sewed the dress (and the MOH dress) and Momzilla hemmed my dress (I hemmed the MOH dress).
I hate to brag, but I am pretty good at sewing and I thought the dress came out looking pretty good. Maybe not perfect, but it definitely didn't look "handmade" (which was what I was going for).
Jaci - You posted those elsewhere, so thanks for posting them here!
Aramelle - Thanks! In some of the pictures I think I look pregnant, but hey! it's a white dress and I'm a big girl. I'd run that risk in any white dress I wore.
I went back afterward and looked at the original dress photo you had in your journal, girl, that thing looks exactly the same!
ETA: and actually, for the longest time brides often would pose for portraits in outfits that would make them appear pregnant, it was considered a good thing to look pregnant on your wedding day! But at least it is only a couple of photos right?

Jaci,
I got there Monday morning at 8, we were staying at the Marriott right off 94. I was auditing MSU-Moorhead. I didn't get to do much outside of work, I was working 14 hour days or so. Also so you know I think there is only 2 Kroll's Diners in the Fargo/Moorhead area, the one that was on South University doesn't exist anymore, I found that out the hard way by looking for it and then not being able to find it ;) I am looking forward to the audit next year already because I saw a restaurant that intrigued me :) the North American Steak Buffet :) I could do some damage to that one :) :D
hahaha, we also just got one of those Texas Steakhouse restuarants in Fargo. Did you find the Krolls on 45th then? That would only be two blocks away from my office and if you were at MSUM you were only three blocks away from our house.
If you guys ever come up I can give tons of recommendations.

I went to the one on 45th and we were in Owens Hall on campus. We didn't do to much for meals, I had Little Ceasers one night, then I went to the Speak Easy one night and the last night I just got Burger King, so I could keep working.

No :( I feel so worthless
I totally understand. I went through that for 2 years while I was job hunting. It's not fun, and it's not pretty. What kind of work are you looking for?
Jaci - How about a Minnesota-related key chain? That wouldn't weigh much. Or a Minnesota calendar. They can be tricky to fit in a box, though. Or a Minnesota t-shirt? I keep thinking of the Minnesota stores at MOA and the stuff they have there. I got Zack a bunch of stuff from there the first time he visited me.
BTW, I didn't have a problem sending Zack packaged cookies (Oreos) or homemade cookies either time I sent him stuff. But maybe that's a US-UK thing. Australia may be stricter.
I know when Chantel sent me vegemite, she had it sent back because it contained food, though she did eventually get me it in a bottle...speaking of which, I still haven't eaten any of it :P

Love MN though but found out that we will be moving again next July (not sure where yet) so I am taking advantage of all the beauty of MN while we are still here. I LOVE the snow and hope we get a lot of it this year!!
Awww, well, once you are a Minnesotan, you are always a Minnesotan :) We'll always welcome you back.

Well, the wedding is in Lyle, and then the reception is in Carpenter, IA. Saturday after the reception, we're driving to Owatonna (where I grew up) to stay with my best friend. Then, on Sunday we're having a get together with my family on my mom's side at my aunt's house in Woodbury. So, we'll be in a few different places over the weekend. :)
Kirsten ~ Will do ;)
Jeeze, you are getting everywhere! It sounds like a lot of fun though. Oh man, you have the best blinkies ever! Have you noticed that they work together? Was that done on purpose? I'm led to believe they aren't supposed to work together, but it says: Visit My Life *my Life* Journal in Pictures so there is just one extraneous "My Life" in there.
anyway, GO VIKES! I have to miss part of the game tomorrow, but I'll be able to catch the end.

Yeah, we'll be bouncing around to a few places while we're there. I'm also trying to figure out how to mix in eating at a couple of my favorite places while we're there. I already know that we're going to stop in Northfield on the way down from the airport to have a late lunch at this sandwich place I LOVE. Then, if all goes well, we'll make it back to Owatonna on Saturday night before my favorite pizza place closes so we can get a midnight snack from them. I guess maybe it's a good thing my sister's having a dinner that I don't care for too much....there will definitely be room for Nick's Pizza. :D  :D
I had never noticed that about the blinkies, Jaci. Now you've got it bothering me. Does it look stupid?

Jaci - look what I found:
Vegemite crackdown fears roil expats
By Michelle Nichols Tue Oct 24, 8:45 AM ET
NEW YORK, Oct 23 (Reuters Life!) - Reports that U.S. customs agents are searching people from Australia and New Zealand for Vegemite, a popular yeast extract spread, has created consternation among antipodean expatriates living in America.
The Australian Embassy in Washington said on Monday it was looking into Australian media reports that customs officials were checking people for the salty brown spread.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has long prohibited imports of Vegemite because it contains folate, a B vitamin approved as an additive for just a few foods, including breakfast cereals.
But until recently there was no difficulty bringing in a few jars for personal use. Nearly 100,000 Australians and New Zealanders live in the United States.
Like a similar British favorite called Marmite, it is usually spread on toast with butter or cheese.
"Vegemite made me the man I am today," said Brad Blanks, a reporter with a New York breakfast radio show. "In Australia the slogan is that Vegemite puts a rose in every cheek; but today America has slapped the cheek of every Australian."
Weekend reports from Australian and New Zealand media said some people had been searched or asked by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents if they were carrying Vegemite.
Agency officials were not immediately available for comment.
"From our perspective there is no food safety issue with Vegemite and we had been advised recently by US authorities that Vegemite was not of concern to them," an Australian embassy spokeswoman told Reuters.
Vegemite is made in Australia by U.S.-based Kraft Foods Inc.
from http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061024/od_nm/usa_vegemite_dc
Maybe that explains why Chantal couldn't send you Vegemite?? You might have an easier time shipping foods to her, though.
That's too funny. She did actually end up sending a bottle though, so I do have that. She sent a wedding present, and though she wouldn't tell me what was in it, it was returned to her because of something she put in it.

Its technically a jewelry party (i committed to having one back in the summertime) but I am turning it into more of a holiday party
I am going to cook lots of yummy treats and maybe a little wine and it will be really fun!
I live in Hudson, WI, but I still consider it minnesota... i know not everyone is close to St. Paul, But I am only 20 minutes from St. Paul...SUPER easy to find!
if anyone is interested in coming, let me know!
That sounds like fun, if I was closer...and not already going to one on Friday, I'd be there! I'm actually hosting a Pampered Chef party next Monday...

Hi everyone! I am making an effort to post more around here so I thought I'd come by and say hi. Anyone else think it's way too cold? :sigh:
I do! I really do! I mean, it finally snowed here, but it lost all of it's enchantment by being 4 degrees outside!

We have barely had any snow yet, just a dusting a few times. When it's this cold there might as well be tons of snow so at least we can play in it or something. We hit 30 around here today. It's a mini heat wave considering temps forecasted for tomorrow and thursday.

I don't envy you all with the cold temps. That's the one thing I love about Reno. It still gets chilly, but it's not that bone-chilling type of cold.
So, I've meaning to ask you all whether you've seen the new Monopoly Here & Now game. We bought it a few weeks ago, and we played it with some friends. I was going completely crazy all night because one of the new properties is 'Mall of America - Minneapolis, MN.' Have they moved the Mall of America since I was last home? Because last time I checked, it was still in Bloomington! :shrug2: I know, stupid thing to get worked up over, but it was seriously bothering me the entire time we were playing the damn game. :disbelief:
