What is the one thing you really wanted that was not a necessity? Did you get it?

Kristy

Chocolate Fountain! And yes, it was the FIRST thing we booked! For Michael it was having the wedding and reception downtown, and we got that too :)

Kristy post your wedding day hair, I LOVE IT!

It had to be in NOLA. Period.

Katrina almost blew it for me.

There was one photographer I really wanted to use. Really, really expensive, but I wanted him. And if I didn't get him I was going to whine about it.

So we're using him :jump4joy:

I had 2 main things - Videographer and String quartet for the ceremong.. We had both.

It may sound silly but chair covers. The chairs in our reception hall are maroon and don't really go with the whole color scheme. The chair covers were something that were not optional in my opinion :)

Me too!
They are an expense that we really don't need but I MUST have them. To me, it just makes the room look so finished and elegant. :)

I think the 'must' so far in the early stages of my planning has been a great DJ...we really want to have a fun 'party' :) So that is big for us!!

My one thing that I wasn't willing to compromise on was full rights to my photos and I picked an awesome photographer that gives rights to the couple!

My photographer. I had her picked out way before we got engaged. I saw her pictures at the county fair one year.

There were only 2 things I had to have with my wedding, the caterer that we got and fresh flowers for the bouquets, which we got.

I would have said a pro photographer, but I guess I wasn't specific enough.

One thing both DH and I really really really wanted was for it to be in our back yard. And we got that. :)

Another thing I wanted was for DH to be in a tux. Oh he whined, he whined. And he lost.

I wanted a spectacular photographer, no matter what the cost. Pictures and memories are forever! :) I also want sunflowers EVERYWHERE!!!! I'm hoping my florist will do a great job. Lastly, the wedding had to be here in Greensboro. This is our new home, and we have no affiliations with our hometowns anymore, so it made sense to have the wedding here. :)

Hmmmm - only red roses in my bouquet; a museum for the reception site; a roast beef carvery for the cocktail reception

My must have is my dress made by my mom. She also made my prom dress and the sentimental meaning is great.

We went to check out a few dresses just to see what type looks best on me and she started making comments about just buying a dress. I put my foot down on that one.

I would really love the chocolate fountain...but it's an expense that we're not prepared for just yet! However, Jer has assured me that we WILL get the chocolate fountain (I LOVE having a man who loves chocolate more than me!). Otherwise, I just want to make sure that everyone has a great time and feels like we've made THEM feel special for being part of our day.

The cake... once i saw it I knew it was the one. Our reception site is making it for us at no extra cost to the meal price. Sweet deal!

If I had to say #2, it would be copyrights to our photos...and we are getting that.

MY DRESS! I loved it and have to have it.

FH's thing was the rights to the pictures.

My thing was nicely printed invitations. I had seen too many DIYs turn out crooked or the ink flaked off or something, so I had to have printed invitations where you could feel the ink on top of the paper.

I have another must-have as well - pictures...lots and lots and scads and oodles of pictures :D Which is why I asked my two nieces to be photographers for us!

I gained the nickname "Auntie Kodak" a long time ago...and they are "Little Cousin Pentax" and "Big Cousin Pentax" because they take as many pictures as I do  So lots of pictures are important - we're just ordering a wholesale CASE of film...and letting them go to town!

Kathy, my kids are always embarrassed when I stop strangers taking pictures of their loved ones, asking if they would like to be in the picture. Do you do that, too? I just think it is courteous, kind and who knows- sometimes they take our family pictures too.

If I'm in a touristy spot...or they're obviously debating about who should take the picture, then I will ask. Sad though, because some people just look at you like you're wanting to steal their cameras

That surprises me because that never happens to me. I must have that innocent *I am too fat to run far* look about me. :)

My absolute must have for the wedding is a bagpiper. My FI is a policeman and he LOVES the bagpipes. I've been trying for months to find one that is available and that we can afford. He doesn't know I've been looking for one and made a comment yesterday that instead of having the live muscians I can get at the ceremony, he wants a piper. Now I really have to find one. It will be the best surprise ever!

Just a thought, but who plays the pipes for the local department? They've always got pipes at the police parades & stuff, eh? See if you could get hook-ups without someone spilling the beans? ;)

That is a great suggestion! If you can't find one there, try the local junior college or university.

Unfortunately we live/work in FL and are getting married in PA. I have a hookup with the NYPD pipers, but she doesn't know if she can get anyone :( It's the day after Thanksgiving and you should hear the excuses I've been getting.

Hey, I follow any lead I can get. This past weekend I was at a Scottish fest in MA. Talk about pipers. I got the phone number of the coordinator just in case she can find someone. There were 850 pipers! It was awesome.

Ok, so I PM'ed you a couple times on some things, but I also found a few web links for you to investigate further. :)

Ok, so I found...

This guy:
http://www.thehighlandpiper.com

Will play within 100 miles of Gradyville, PA (according to MapQuest) - Stroudsburg is 103.66 miles according to Mapquest. $250 for a wedding and $0.35/mile. So about an extra $73 if he charges both ways, which I'd assume he does? Information & booking, he's got a number on his site. :)

Also found this link:
http://www.bagpiper.com/directory/pennsylvania-1.html

A full directory of Pennsylvanian Pipers.

Ah-ha! Lookie what I found. ;)
http://www.usacops.com/pa/p18301/index.html

Might be able to get some information out of him on who to contact locally. :)

BTW: I love the pipes, too. So think it'd be totally cool to suprise him with it! :D

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately I've already contacted the first guy you've listed :( He's a no-go.

So were the ones listed on bagpiper.com :(.

I have yet to contact the police pipers, but will have to soon I guess.

My mother is a Celtic musician herself so has even expired all of her bagpipers. So far they are all: watching football, setting up Christmas decorations for their wives or shopping with their wives, taking their child back to college, or entertaining Thanksgiving company.

FH's one must have is lifting my veil at the end of the ceremony. I wasn't planning on a blusher but I can't deny him this.

My on must have would be... hmm... I dunno... I have so many, but maybe hair & make up done professionally.

I've read this whole thread, and I just can't think of anything but one thing. I had to have a full Catholic Nuptial Mass. It's the only thing that matters to me - begining our life by bringing the Sacrament of Marriage in the Mass. Everything else could be left at the curb (and would be if FH had his way) and the only thing that would really matter in the end is that we are trully and sacramentally husband and wife.

Sorry, guys, I know this is an old one (judging by dates!)! However, I'm new and I really like some of these old threads. Please forgive me!!!!

I REALLY want the chair covers to look like the one off of that Bachelorette's wedding, where it starts off really dark pink (almost red) at the back, and light pink, almost white, at the front near the alter. This is a must have.

If I have to pick one - a good photographer with a photojournalistic style. At my first wedding, we did such boring, posed pics. Blech.
