I am sorry but I just have to say that this option is quite annoying. I had to search for the smilie I wanted to use earlier and it was so frustrating. But I do understand why do it for the people with slow computers but still I just had to get that off my chest.
Also I just realized you could change the theme of the boards and I am using autumn leaves now and I LOVE this option!

I think the only solution to the drop down is to lose quite a lot of the smilies we have. I understand how you feel b/c I often forget where I've put a favorite smiley as well. I'm not sure yet if it's possible, but I will ask Lacie if there's a way to make a "View All" portion to that drop down for those on higher speed connections. :aok:
I also would appreciate a view all drop down if possible, if not.. also fine :)

Well, slow connections isn't why I changed it. All the images were causing the window to go haywire for some people, and that's not a dial-up only problem.
I can try to make a View All category, but if the haywire problem keeps happening with it, I'm going to have to take it back off. And frankly, it's going to be a long process, so apologies if I can't get to it right away.

Ooops.
Sorry, I couldn't remember why. This is why you're the Resident Techie Goddess and I'm the lowly ol' Administrator. :kimgrill:

Might I suggest making a sticky note on your computer with the shortcuts of your favs?

I changed my mind. I'm sorry to be a bitch, but I *really* don't want to make a View All category. It's going to take a LONG time, and quite honestly, it's not worth my time to do so. If there's any way I can make the category names more intuitive so you can find smilies easier, then I'd be glad to do that, but I don't want to make a view all option. Sorry.

Although, another option you have is to scroll down all the way to the bottom of any page, and click on the Smilies are On link. That will bring up a new window with the whole list, and you could just leave that up in the background while you're on the site.

:console: It's okay. I wasn't sure if it was possible and I didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up.

I NEVER knew that! I just sticky noted the ones I liked and went down the list for anything I thought I needed.

Love this feature! Never knew what in meant and I guess I'm to affraid to click on things I don't know what they do :)
Lacie, think you for all you do on here. I'm one who doesn't like the drop down box either, but I would also never want to make so much extra work for you with something that in time we will all get use to.

Whoa! I never knew about the "smilies are on" thing either! That rocks! Thanks, Lacie! :D

I'll add and agree that I don't like the drop down box. I have the ones I like memorized for the most part so it doesn't really affect me, but if y'all do come up with a solution that would be really cool (sometime down the road, I know it's a PITA to worry about right after you hack something in).
I like all the new smilies though, so there's the silver lining and thanks for all the hard work, it is very much appreciated!

Can I ask why people don't like the dropdown? I personally love not having to scroll through a huge list to find what I'm looking for. :dunno: It's just baffling me, because the other board I'm on that uses it got tons of compliments on the feature. :dunno:

To be honest I think it's extremely annoying to not be able to see them all at once. While the categories are nice, yes, a particular smilie that you might feel is cuter for a situation isn't as readily accessible in a particular situation as it was when you could see them all at once. It's probably partly laziness on my part, but I hate not having all the options right there in front of me. It just adds an extra step that I don't wanna have to deal with.
LOL, that was long, I'm sorry! I just like the ease of it all there at one time. Now, I LIKE that you have the smilies in the categories, but I don't like not seeing all the categories at once -- am I even making sense?
It's up to you though Lacie. You're the one who works hard to do all this for us so ultimately whatever you wanna do we'll all get used to :) Thanks again for your hard work, seriously.

Is there any other way to make people happy, though? Because unless a magic super quick way to make a View All category reveals itself to me, I *really* don't want to do it.

No problem. It looks possible, just have to figure out the proper code for it. :)

I personally like it better because it takes forever for all of the smilies to load on my work computer so now it's so much faster. Thanks Lacie for all you do!!

I'm on the fence on the smilie issue. I like the selection...I like a big selection. But can never remember what category something is listed under.
Anyway...Taken a brief look at the code (and Gina may notice some strange URLs popping up on the web site logs) and I've tried accessing the smilie list via some different combinations of URLs...I can't get anything to work.
But I do have a call for help out to a buddy of mine, he may be able to help, as I may just be trying 'the wrong thing'. Will have more news in a day or so. :)

That is fine that you dont want to make a view all, I was really just expressing my feelings that it drives me crazy...for ex. I was looking for a certain smilie yesterday and was getting so frustrated going through every category and it took me forever, and actually I never found it. But then later that night when I was on I saw it in some other category. I just dont like having to guess which one it is in and then searching through them. I liked when they were all there and you could just scroll down and pick one, you didnt have to click on so many buttons.
Like I said, I completely understand you not wanting to do it and its perfectly ok with me.

I'm actually working on organizing the smiley list because since we've opened, I have added a *ton* of new ones and will probably add more. At the time, several were tossed in the Miscl. category and I'm just now getting around to creating new categories so that they all have a home.
With any luck, all of the smiley emotions will match the category name. I won't have Mr. AngryPants listed inside the Confused category. :heee:

In searching for Easter Eggs this evening, I realized something...When you're on the message posting screen, if you look down and to your left there are some links...
vB Code: On
Smilies: On
Go ahead and right click on the On for smilies (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/misc.php?do=showsmilies) and select "open link in new window" or whatever that text may be for your particular browser. ;)
