I think I am doing STD magnets and just had some questions for you all to help me with my decision.

Who out there has done STD magnets? Did you make them yourself? How? Did you order them from somewhere? Where? How thick was the magnet? What are your thoughts on your magnet?

TIA!

My STD magnets were all DIY.
I bought the magnet sheets from Staples that are made by Avery:

You just run the sheet throught your printer and the magnets are pre-scored on the sheet so there is no cutting them out.

I also used Avery's template program from their website. You just input the product number in and it makes all the margains and the correct size for you.
It was so easy and I had then all done in one day:

I also used their postcards for the backing and used the same program to deisgn those. I use Avery for everything!

Everyone loved them and I am still getting comments on them.

Thanks, Jennifer! How thick was the magnet on those?

I am not sure... they aren't thick. They are probably 2-3mm.

I used the same magnets as Jennifer. I printed them out but Lacie designed them for me. I'm using a removable scrapbook tape to attach them to the cards. I couldn't print them on my printer, it wouldn't pull the sheet through enough to line up on the magnet sheet but my FH's printer worked fine with them. To do over again I would probably have had Lacie design and print them for me. I suck at do it yourself wedding projects :)

Lacie has a better picture of the magnets on her vendor thread for her business.

I did save the date magnets. I designed them in powerpoint and printed them myself. I ordered sheets of magnet paper from the internet and fed them sheet by sheet through my printer. After the sheets printed out, I just used a paper cutter to separate them. Very EASY! I did two diagonal cuts on the card to attach them. I'm not quite sure how thick the magnet was? I know it was heavier than the buisness card size you get from staples (like Jen's)

Here is a picture. When I get one of the card, I will post it as well.

I also am diy our std magnets. I got the avery business cards from Staples and designed everything myself. I printed them out and then I had a long strip of magent (from Michaels) and cut 2 strips to put on the back and they work really well. Then I attached them to the actual card by using the scrapbook photo corners. I have pics in my journal if you would like to see.

I did our magnets on pretty paper, and then stuck them to pre-cut magnets that I got at staples for $20 (in packs of 100). You just peel the backing off of the magnet and stick it on - they are the size of a business card.

I then attached them to a card (I picked those up for $20 for 100; and they included the envelopes) with the gummy dots. I think I paid under $100 including postage for all of them. I think I sent about 80 or so.

I designed our magnets myself, and I then ordered them through Vista Print (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/www.vistaprint.com). I signed up for their promotional e-mails, and they sent me a promotion (which they seem to have rather frequently) for a great discount on their magnets. It cost me less than $20 (with a proof and shipping) for 50 magnets, and they look great!

I did my own too. I got business cards and printed them out (they were pretty looking ones) I also got a package of 100 pre cut business card magnets from office depot then I removed the backing and placed the business card on the magnet! Very easy and everyone has loved them!!

Aramelle- How did the picture come out from Vista Print? Was it grainy at all? Did they laminate it or something like it?

The magnets from Vista Print came out GREAT. I really couldn't be happier. There is absolutely no distortion from the file I sent. It isn't really laminated, it's just like the pictures was printed right on the magnet. I mean, it feels just like a magnet you would get from a local doctor's office or something. Does that make sense? :headscratch:

Thanks Aramelle! I think I get what you mean how it feels... Is it like a photograph? I saw somewhere on vista print that it could be matte or glossy. When I started to put the order in to see, it never asked me what my preference was. Did you order from the small business card magnets or photo magnets?

I'm ordering my STD's though Vista Print too. I have a business account with them and got a thing for 25 free magnets so I just used some of their preset templates and all I pay is shipping. I don't totally care for the font but who can turn down free ;)

I wound up ordering through Vista Print also because of your experience with them. Thanks for recommending it! I ordered slow shipping, so I won't see them for three weeks. But I am excited! Thanks for your help everyone!

ohhhhhhhhhhh I'm sure they will get there before 3 weeks. I got my business cards in a little over a week and it was supposed to be 3.

We actually made our own. This is what we made:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6d706b3127cce8d148cda5c3e00000016108BasmjRyxak

It is without the white border. Had trouble with shutterfly, so this is what we did just so I could show everyone what we were doing.

This is the thread with the details (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2314)

Katie, I absolutely LOVE the design you came up with for your magnets, and I think you'll be very happy that you decided to go with Vista Print. I agree with Beth, that you'll probably have them long before the three weeks. I ordered mine on 8/19, and they shipped on 8/24 (I also just ordered the slow processing).

Thanks! I had an idea, but Aaron was able to do what I described to him! I was impressed out how they came out! I can't wait to see them in person!

We just did our STD magnets.

We used AVERY business cards #8571, they are pre-perforated sheets. Got the package of them for $5 at an auction.

For the magnets we bought the peel & stick ones you DIY, from Staples. A 50 pack is about $12. Here is a picture of the box if you are looking to do your own, they are so easy to work with! http://www.magnetsource.com/Consumer%20Pages/MagnaCardaOFFC.html
LETTER F was the box we used.

It took less than an hour to affix all the business cards to the magnets :)
