My sister is considering getting married by JP. How long is the average ceremony preformed by JP? I have only been to one wedding that was preformed by JP and it only lasted 5 minutes. Is that normal? What can you add to the ceremony to length it?

It all depends, now, is she just having it at the courthouse by a JP? Because those are pretty quick. I had a JP do our ceremony, but we wrote our own ceremony and I think it lasted about 25 minutes (and it seemed way longer). They are usually pretty open if you want to write your own ceremony, so really, it is up to your sister how long it is.

you could include a unity candle/ sand ceremony, and perhaps have some sort of poem/reading done. that would help stretch it to at least between 10 & fifteen minutes, provided you play a song for the unity candle/sand ceremony.

They will customize the ceremony to your liking, so ask them to have a reading or a poem, a unity candle, get different vows, etc to make the ceremony like 20 min instead.

I'm getting married in Vegas so ours will be pretty quick too. They say it will only take 15 minutes! Works for me as long as we are married in the end.

we will have a united candles im not sure what he will say yet. but we will do that. and we also will have a couple readers. and maybe even a poem. and plus before when everyone is walking up we will be having about 16 people HOLY COW! hehe. so my wedding could even possibly be about 40 minutes depends on everything we do
