We're doing personalized pub glasses ~ probably filled with candy:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v227/whebert/SubAlbum%205/favoridea3.jpg
belle67, I like the idea of personalized mini hershey bars. We could also use hershey kisses and put labels at the bottom:
We are giving away shortbread shaped like a leaf. The shortbread goes with the Scottish part of the wedding, and the leaf goes with the autumn part :P
We are doing little bags of NOLA specialties. Each bag will have 2 mini pralines, some mardi gras beads and MAYBE a mini bottle of tabasco sauce.

Our favors are going to be part of our centerpieces. Goldfish! I have been to so many weddings where the favors were not taken so we weren't going to have them, then we came across this idea and loved it! There will be a table set up with take home containers and mini packets of fish food for them to get started. There will be about 3 fish per table so those who want to can take the fish home. So far everyone in our family has loved the idea (there is a little more story behind it that they all remember too).

We are using wallet-size picture frames as placecard holders, which will double as favors. We are also going to give wallet-size prints from our engagement pictures. Our families are both big into pictures, and they go great with our theme. So, I think it will be a great hit. :)

By each person's seat we had almond dragees in tulle tied with wrappia in our wedding colors and bells, and on the bar/appetizer table we had a basket full of tiny boxes filled with individual tea bags from Revolution Tea (http://www.revolutiontea.com/) (which is an excellent brand IMHO :)).

We're giving our guests homemade jams--raspberry (Brian's favorite) and strawberry (my favorite). We selected these favors because we have yet to see anyone turn down a jar of jam in either of our families. Additionally, these favors serve as a nod to our families who have both canned/jammed for several generations.

We're hoping for a relaxed PAR-TAY reception (:) cute description, right?) and were originally going to order these:
http://www.sarah-kennedy.com/this_color_koozie.gif
with this printed on them:
http://www.sarah-kennedy.com/final-koozie.gif
Since then I found a cheaper site to order from and they dont have the same colors, so we were going to go with black koozies and as close to a baby blue ink as they could get. But the koozies may be out since I've had some car issues recently, and they may be back since his mom offered to pick up the tab if we need it. We dont feel right taking the money right now though (long story, and sorry! This belongs in my journal-not here! moving on...)
We (also?) ordered a bazillion "olde-fashioned candy sticks"
http://www.sarah-kennedy.com/candystick.gif
in 8 different flavors and are tying them together in little bundles of four. We decided to do this for the kids, but ordered enough for everyone (of course)!

Love the kisses with the labels on the bottom - my mother loves them too and has offered to sit and put labels on the bottoms of hershey kisses if I want her too
We've actually got lots of ideas for favours - first will be a spiral photo holder (that is going to double as the place card as well!) that I'm proud to say I have already twisted all of the wire for! We're also making Wedding "Crackers" similar to Christmas Crackers. Inside they will have a small gift, some candy, and wedding fortunes/love sayings.
We also saw the personalized shot glasses and loved them. Jer collects shot glasses, so it would be perfect...however these are on the wishlist side of things right now. If we can afford them, we may put them into the OOT bags...or give them out at the Open House/Gift Opening the day after!
Rehearsal dinner favours - we weren't planning on doing anything...but we had already decided that part of our BP gift would be a personalized CD with songs about friends and frienship. So instead of this being party of the BP gifts, we're going to make a personalized CD for each person going to the rehearsal dinner as a favour :) Then everyone will get something :)
Most of the favours are DIY projects...and I've started the photo holders, started with parts of what is going into the crackers and designed a template for the CD labels! I love DIY projects - as long as I leave myself lots of time to DIMyself!

We're doing Jones Soda, since all our friends love it. You can order them with a personal picture and then a blurb on the back, so we're of course doing engagement photos. I think they're a lil' pricey, but I mentioned them to FH back before we were engaged, and he loves them. He doesn't get excited about much, so Jones Soda it is!

We are doing two... I had to really push for this but I really want them both! One will be a miniature iris bulb in a pot with moss with a card Thanking the guest and asking them to plant the bulb somewhere to see it multiply every year like our love...

I'll have to post a picture of our finished products. But I don't have all the supplies yet. We are using these cones. Filled with personalized red and purple M&Ms (our wedding colors). I have red and purple ribbons ordered with our names and date on them I'll tie around the top and attach a thank you note.

We had coupons for a free cone, dilly bar or ice cream sandwich at Dairy Queen. DH proposed to me with a DQ Blizzard (the ring was on the spoon) and I love ice cream so it was the perfect favor for us.
I don't have a pic but I made a little note with our picture on it and a cute saying to stick with the coupons and put them in the DQ envelopes that came with the them. I put the guests names and table numbers on the envelopes and used them as the placecards as well.

We did blue goblets filled with a few smaller items (blueberry votive, candy, etc). Everyone loved them a bit too much - we didn't have any left over and some people made mention that they didn't get one as others left with entire sets of them lol. DH even made the little thank you charms to hang around the stems :)

08-02-2006, 07:56 PM
We are doing two things - one they take home, and one they don't. :)
The take home item is two Ghiridelli squares of chocolate, tied in an organza circle, two different flavors to each one. I will order my chocolate about three weeks before the wedding.
The non take home item is, we are donating money to plant a tree for each invited guest. With being a long distance relationship, we have logged some serious sky time, and burned our own hole in the ozone. This is our way of trying to give back. So we will plant 60 trees in honor of our guests. Each table will have a little note telling them of this.

I am not getting my chocolate 6 weeks before the wedding. I would have liked to get it sooner but I have to get it by the case from the Hershey factory and it is 5 hours away. FSIL is in the area labour day weekend so I am waiting for her. You can buy and store chocolate in a dark cool place up to 1 year before.

Yay for favors! Everybody has such unique ideas!!!
Here are ours :heee: They were a LOT of work but totally worth it! We bought plain Jones soda bottles (and with help from Heather!), designed the label, printed them out (a story in and of itself :hehe: ) and attached them. My new last name is Jones so it worked out perfectly! :jump4joy:

We're thinking about having the favors double as the centerpieces. Nine blue glass votives on each table (ten people at a table) with each votive filled with either a flower (white rose/gerbera/blue hydrangea) or a tealight (not a votive b/c of the fire regulation). I'm also thinking about personalizing them somehow (ribbon? gluing something to it?) so that people understand that they're the favor.
What do you guys think?

This is what we are doing. I have these little blue bags that we will put a personalized chocolate bar and a small photo frame in the bag. I am still deciding on the photo in the frame, and still looking for sayings for the back of the bars. This will be tied with a silver ribbon and one will be placed on everyone plate. And someone is going to have to print our names on every bag. I don't have a picture because are not at that stage yet....the putting together stage.
BTW everyone has great favors.

If I have the centerpieces that I want (glass vases filled with blue/silver/white Christmas ornaments - the balls) I may use the ornaments as the favors. Perhaps leave a note on the tables as well as tie ribbons on the ornaments. I don't really want them to have our names on them though, unless it's something like "from Kathy & Brian," because I'd actually like people to hang them on their own trees. But that's just an idea for now.

My fiance is from the UK, so for our US guests, I am going to get some British goodies (cookies - or 'biscuits', some candy bars, etc). For my British guests, I'm going to get some Southern (or American) treats - Goo Goo Clusters, some of our cookies, etc.
The only trouble I'm having is finding favor boxes big enough for that, so I'll probably end up making my own pouches or something. I like the ones you used, Kat. Where'd you find them?

I'm not Kat, but I was looking for these before too. You can look for "Organza bags" or "drawstring bags" to find pouches like those, I've also seen some at Oriental trading. Usually you can find them for good bulk prices. Also, if you are looking for a little cheaper, look for "Muslin drawstring bags"

For our favors, we had two cds (with our pictures on the cover):
One was our wedding "soundtrack" with all the songs used in our ceremony and reception and the other was "Rock and Roll Love Story" with a collection of the best 'love' songs in Rock History. :)

Ours were gourmet truffles and we doubled them as our place cards at the tables.. I made the tags and did the ribbons :pleased:

We didn't do favors - we made a donation instead, and I had some "scrolls" printed that explained it. Since we donated to the Red Sox Foundation, we got some Red Sox stickers to put on the bottom, then rolled them up and tied them with light blue ribbon.
