what is all included normally with the save the date cards? Do you send a pre-RSVP or is that wrong to do? I know it is just to let them know they will be getting an invite but is there anything else that goes with it?

All we did on ours was:

Please save the date of October 7, 2006
For the wedding of Angela Marie *** and
Thomas Patrick *****
Invitation to follow

For more details, please visit our website! Web Address

I've heard you're supposed to send hotel information, etc., but we didn't. We just wanted to let people know the date and that it'd be coming up. Of course, there are a few people who have planned their vacation for that week anyway, so it didn't necessarily work, but we gave it a shot.

Ours read like this:

Times are Busy
Calendars are full
Jennifer and Steven want you to know
They are planning their wedding for
October 14, 2006
Formal invitation to follow.

I just wanted to share a really cute save the date I saw recently: http://www.polkadotmittens.com/journal/images/savedt.jpg

I really loved how it says "We will be getting hitched and are planning to invite you. You have been warned." It cracked me up! :laugh3:

I have never heard of doing that and I am not sure it would work that well. People's schedules change, things come up and some people just don't like to be pinned down that early.
When I sent mine out, I first assumed that everyone was coming. That way I could starting making and reserving items based on that number.

Here is the prototype of our Save The Date Cards:

On the back, I've included our joint email address and the link to our wedding website which has lots of travel information already on it!

Similar to belle67, I'm making the assumption as far as numbers go and planning goes. But I did it slightly differently. They say you can expect up to 25% of people to decline...and with our wedding at a distance for alot of people, I figured it was safe to base my numbers on our original number less the 25% (250 on the guestlist, I'm planning for 180-200). I still think we'll have less than that actually able to make it, but at least then I'll be prepared and won't have to do some of the fiddly-stuff at the last minute because an extra 10 people COULD come!

Someone else was going to put a tentative RSVP thing on their website and get rough numbers that way?!?
