QOD: What is ONE thing that needs to be done SOON before you get married but you are dreading doing it/making it/etc?
Reserving the church and reception hall. I don't know why but I keep putting it off! To tell the truth I haven't even called the church to see if we can get married there!!:shhhh: I guess it is the money factor... but I really don't know!!!

Hi Abi!
FH's grandma has a tumor (non-cancerous) on her hip and has to have radiation for it. She's has radiation before b/c she had cancer and it made her very weak. They aren't too sure how well she'll hold up having it again. So if it looks like she won't make it much longer Brian wants to do a JOP in December so his grandma can see us get married.

Hi Girls! I'm glad this is back, I missed it!
Rebecca- I'm sorry about FH's grandmother. This may be a dumb question, but why do they have to do radiation if her tumor is benign?

Amanda~thanks!!!
Christa~It's making her leg swell so bad right now that they have to get rid of it but b/c of her age and that she's weak they don't want to do surgery.

Thanks to Abi being a great detective I made it too :) And just when Chris was adjusting to a clean house again! I haven't told him yet that now my time will be taken up again.
I was really sad by the idea of not getting to see how everyones weddings turned out and going through next year with all of you.

Amanda ~ I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well. I hope that the recovery is quick, and you are back to yourself in no time.
Rebecca ~ I'm so sorry for what FH's grandma is going through...that sounds horribly painful. Am I correct in assuming that you'll still be doing the larger wedding in July if you do the JOP this year?

So what is everbody doing wedding-wise right now? I am currently working on our website. I'm taking breaks ever now and then to come on here. If I didn't , I'd probably throw this laptop out the window (STUPID FLASH!!!!). I'm also going to try to get Patrick to (finally) take the picture for our STDs. It has been like pulling teeth.

Hey ladies.
My name for those of you who don't know me is Nikki. My lucky groom is Scott. We are getting married March 30th 2007. We started dating August 3, 1993. Moved in together April 1, 2004. Got asked the big question December 24th, 2004.
I am so glad that Abi that able to track me down and lead me here. Thanks Abi. Its great to see old faces as well as I new ones. Can't wait to get to know you all. I was a main G& G in UW. Can't wait to get started.
Yesterday I got the call that the diagram for my custom made wedding band was in. So I rushed right in. Like a fool. I was smiling all the way. The diagram looks great. I think that it will look perfect with my e-ring. I am not sure how long this will take but I hope that I get the e-ring back sooooon. I miss it.
Amanda glad to here that your surgery went great. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Rebecca, sorry to hear that your grandmother is going through this tough time. I hope that everything works out for the best.
I also wanted to add that wedding wise I am doing nothing at this moment. Scott and I just moved into our new house 2 weeks ago. I am still living out of boxes. Those are getting low. I was just happy that nothing wedding related got broken or ruined. Some of our stuff did. Long story. I cried, and thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Wedding-wise, with a week without wedding forums I was able to sit back and get a little more organized with all of my stuff. Jer and I coordinated our guest lists so they matched again and added addresses so that we have them in both locations (just never know when the first resource won't be available right!). And now my focus is on the Save The Date's and the STD CD Slideshow that we're making to send with the STD Cards :)
All of the STD Cards are printed out, and I started cutting them just yesterday. I finished a few of the knots for the cards as well, and now have about one-third of the STD Cards completely done (will scan and share the final version soon, but here's the prototype)
http://www.jerandkathy.com/kathy/UW_Photos/STD_UW_Smaller.jpg
I will have all of the cards ready to go to when I head to Jer's in a couple of weeks. Then we'll get some serious wedding stuff done - deposit paid on the reception hall, more pictures of the reception hall and church, shopping for veil and craft supplies needed for all the DIY projects...oh, and just spending time together :)
nikkiscott - glad to hear that the boxes are getting low and nothing happened to wedding stuff! Sorry to hear that some stuff did get broken or ruined - not cool at all! :grouphug:

Nikki, so glad to see you again!
My wedding goals right now are to find a caterer and DJ. They are the last two venders I need to find, I think, unless I forgot someone. Oh, and cake, how could I forget about the cake :hehe: I am also working on our newspaper engagement announcements since we finally have a good picture of us to put with them.
I also need to work on cleaning my bedroom and closet so I can get all of this wedding stuff organized. I've ordered a lot of stuff already and it has taken over everthing. I think we need to add on a wedding room!

The one thing that I am not really looking forward to now is starting our "meetings" with the priest, simply because Nate and I's schedules are SO crazy that it will be hard to schedule time for it! But I think it will be worthwhile once we actually do get a few days nailed down!

We're having a Jewish wedding, and it'll be on my parents 34th wedding anniversary! We though the Sunday of Labor Day would be good, and it just turned out to be the same, so we asked them, and they said that that was awesome.
I wasn't on the other G&G, but I'm happy to be here now.
I'm in the middle of all kinds of craziness. I need to email the venue, call one of the caterers we're talking to, I have a florist appointment on monday, and two photogs on Tuesday. Oh, and waiting for one of the videographers to email us, and one to send us a video of a wedding. Weeee! Oh, and waiting for a rabbi to email us back....But it'll be good to get a lot of that out of the way. We'll be moving soon (either beginning or end of August, depending) so it's better to do stuff now rather than later.

Abi, I feel exactly the same way! We all share so much with each other that each of you is definitely an intregal part of my wedding.
I'm also really excited to have the new girls joining us. Trust me, ladies, this is an amazing group of women here!
I haven't started a journal yet. I am excited to be able to get my thoughts all into one place again, but I'm not really looking forward to doing the work of getting them there. It'll probably be a few days before I get around to that because...
DH and I adopted a cat today! :jump4joy: We've been talking about getting one for a while now. Today, we went to PetCo with the idea that we were "just going to look." Well, they had the sweetest cat there, and we just couldn't resist. His name is Reggie, and he's a three year old Tabby. I'm going to give him some time to get adjusted before I start shoving the camera in his face, but I'll post pictures some time soon. :heee:

Hey ladies great to see more of the old faces from UW dropping in. WOOHOO
So what did everyone do this weekend??
I had fun. Saturday fh and I helped his sister move out of our house and into hers, then today we went quading. It was nice. We got a lot dusty, but had fun. Which is the main thing.
I still have a lot of things to do around the house. As I am sure all you know. House work when you first move in is never ending. It keeps me busy thats forsure. Can't wait till its all done. Oh and yes we got our are laminite flooring done. And I even painted the living room. Which looks really nice. Now to hang all the curtains. LOL I need some help with that.
Talk to you all later.

Welcome back to the "old" GG girls and thanks for joining us to the "new" GG girls :) I hope we find Lela and the other girls.
Jillian, glad you found your photographer. I think we'll make it through a few GG threads before the end of next year and we are moved to the past years forum. But at least we all get to stay together now and see how each others weddings turn out :bananasrock: (okay I like a lot of the new changes but don't like the pick a category for the smilies I liked the whole page of them)
Abi, how do you know we will not be at your wedding? We might all crash it :giggle:
Aramella, you thought you could go look at those kitties and not go home with one? Good thing I have Chris now or I'd be the crazy cat lady :laugh3: Can't wait to see pictures of your new baby.

So what did everyone do this weekend??
forgot to answer this. I have been working on organizing all this wedding stuff I have that has gotten out of hand! I have room in the top of one of our closets for it I just need to get things moved around and up there. Still working on that project. I have more stuff on order that should be coming this week. I think we need to build a wedding room addition!

You adopted a kitty!!! That's awesome. I've been wanting one sooooo bad. I think we'll wait until after the wedding though...our apartment complex has insane fees for pets.
This weekend FH and I sat around and watched baseball, and I found MLW, which has rendered me useless for anything else. Because of this, FH had been getting all excited about learning how to program macros in Excel (or something weird like that). I keep reminding him what a geek he is.

Hi LeAna. We 2007 brides do get chatty. I'm glad so many others are joining us this time. That is the advantage to the new site I guess.
Okay, so I was totally up ALL night. Every time I laid down all I could think about was wedding stuff. How am I going to make it over nine months like this? It wasn't even stress stuff. Just thinking about what order I wanted the reception to go in. What songs we will use. I finally got a couple hours of sleep at 9 this morning! Thank goodness I don't work.

Hi ladies. Welcome to all the new gals that posted since the last time I posted.
Lisa congrats on the tulle. Always great when you get a good deal. Sounds like your wedding plans are coming along.
So yesterday I was in Walmart and I was looking the electronic department and came across these cds for weddings. They had a dvd for learning 6 different kinds of dances for the first dance. The cds were for father daughter dance, first dance, and bride walking down the isle. So I being the wedding person that I am I bought these. I thought that they would help me out. I should fh the dance dvd and he laughed. Said that he wouldn't watch or learn with me. I'll work on him. As for the cds haven't listened to them. But will keep you all posted on what they are like. They were only like $8 so I couldn't go wrong.
Have you ever had one of those days were anything people do it just rubs you the wrong way?? I am having one of those days. I was doing great this morning. But for some reason this afternoon it all changed. Yikes. Hopefully by the time fh gets home I will be feeling better. Or maybe if I vent to him it will get better.
Glad to see that everyone had great weekends.

I've seen a lot of wedding song CDs too Nikki. I've bought several of them. Music is one of the things I'm working on. So far I know the father/daughter dance. That will probably be our only special dance. We will not be doing a first dance. I also think I want to use At Last. But not sure if I want that to be the song I walk in to or the last one when we walk out.
Shall we have our first QOD? What music have you picked out if any?
KathyandJer
07-17-2006, 07:10 PM
Lisa...I have had a few of those nights myself! I hate it because I end up exhausted the next day...but it wasn't for any particular reason. Just wondering how those details will work, or when I should do this or that!
Congrats on the tulle - where did you get it??
QOD - What music have you picked out if any?
The only thing I know for sure is that Jer and I will be leaving the church with an Irish Wedding Song playing. I absolutely love the song, and there's a WEE bit of Irish in my background...and Jer has okay-ed the song. Other than that, and the friends/friendship songs that we've already picked to give to our BP (and friends) at the rehearsal dinner...that's a big one on the To-Do list
Sk8ermaiden
07-17-2006, 07:20 PM
What music have you picked out if any?
I read in a couple magazines that 80% of first dance songs are the same 20 songs. I knew I would probably pick out one in that 20, and I didn't want to pick out something cheesy that would cause our relentless group of mostly-male friends to mock him forever. So I let my classic rock-loving honey pick the first dance song.
We're doing "May This Be Love" (Waterfall) by Jimi Hendrix for the first dance. I picked "Come away with me" by Norah Jones for the last dance. We're not having father/daughter or mother/son or bridal party dances, so all I have left is the ceremony music.
I would love to walk down the aisle to "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve, but I think the Catholic Church would frown on that. :sigh:

Wow, you all have sure been chatty today. I sure missed coming home and having tons of posts to read to get caught up. :)
So, I'm really excited because I think that I may have figured out a way to get ahold of Morgan to let her know about this place. As many of you know, she and I have a couple of the same vendors. So, I just sent an e-mail to our photographer (who is an absolute doll) asking her if there was anyway she would please forward my email address to Morgan so that I can get in touch with her. With any luck, Sandy won't have a problem with doing that, and I get fill Morgan in on where to find us all. I'm really missing my vendor-twin.
Lisa ~ While I haven't really had trouble sleeping, I have started to have the crazy wedding dreams. I can only imagine the type of scenerios my brain will manage to cook up between now and next June! Also, thanks for posting that link. I'll have to look into their prices. We need almost 200yds of tulle, and I'd really like to not spend a fortune on it! I've been planning on buying a bolt at a time with my 50% off coupons from Joanns, but I'd sure like it if I could find it for less somewhere else.
QOD ~ Dh and I have slowly been working on figuring out our music selections. So far, we've chosen:
Prelude: Here and Now ~ Luther Vandross
Candle Lighting Ceremony: When God Made You ~ Newsong
Introduction: Happy To Be Stuck With You ~ Huey Lewis and the News
First Dance: Everyday I Love You ~ Boyzone
Dinner Music: Selection of jazz
Cake Cutting: How Sweet It Is ~ James Taylor
DH is in charge of picking the processional and recessional music, so that probably won't be done until the day before!
Well, I guess I've probably babbled on long enough for now. Before I go, though, I have to share a couple pictures of my new baby. I'm so very happy that we decided to get him yesterday. :floating: He's barely been home for 24 hours, and I'm already head-over-heels in love with him! He's adjusting very well, and is a really loveable cat. He's got us completely wrapped around his paw, and he absolutely knows it! :giggle:
Ladies, please say hello to the newest addition of our family...Reggie. :D

That is it so far

QOD: We're still working on music. I think our first dance song is going to be the new Brad Paisley song on the Cars soundtrack, "When you find yourself". He's got his heart set on in but I haven't been completely sold yet. We went to his concert last week and he didn't play it. I think it's a sign...

QOD:Our first song will be "Love of a Lifetime" by Firehouse. This is a special song to us because Keith was the first to ever bring up us getting married and it was when he said this should be our first dance. That was the first wedding decision we ever made and it was WAY before we were ever engaged!

Can I ask the new QOD? Cuz I need help
QOD: How did everyone decide on their flowers? Just from inspirational pics, or do the flowers you have chosen have special meaning? Or was it just a good deal from the florist? :lol2:
My answer - the only flower I've decided on is to include a yellow rose in my bouquet to represent our friendship. This then blossomed into having a yellow rose in each bouquet/bout because we'll have alot of our friend's with us. Otherwise, I have no freaken' clue what flowers I want to go with

I actually changed my color scheme for the flowers. I originally wanted red and orange, but my mom convinced me that i could not have orange as a wedding color (my mom HATES orange - I don't know what it ever did to her), so I decided on shades of blue. But the thing is that I wanted bright, bold flowers, and not much was available in blue. So I went back to my original plan (which makes me so much happier!).
I fell in love with orchids while searching for ideas, but they'll probably be too expensive. I just looked for blooms in my colors and picked my favorites from what I saw.

QOD #1: Our first dance song is going to be "Me and You" by Kenny Chesney. And I am leanin towards the love theme from "Romeo and Juliet" and "Braveheart" for the ceremony.
QOD #2: I have my heart set on having lavender roses. So I have just been searching for inspiration pics that have lavender roses in them. And I also love the pearl tipped stephanotis flowers. I think they look so gorgeous with the lavender roses.

07-18-2006, 12:36 PM
QOD: We have some of our music picked out. Our first dance will be "Sleep, Baby Sleep" from the movie StageDoor Canteen.
QOD2: I've always loved calla lillies and that's what we ordered.
carolinalady67
07-18-2006, 12:53 PM
QOD2: My original plan was red and lavender roses. But has been changed to all red roses. Because the place I'm getting them from doesn't have lavender roses. Because of Chris's disability he can't just go to a flower shop in town (he doesn't drive) anytime he wants to get me flowers. So he discovered Proflowers on line. They grow all their own flowers and they are cut when you order them still in bud form. So when you get them they are still in the process of opening and they last a lot longer. That is where he always gets my flowers and they are always beautiful. When I learned that they did wedding flowers I just had to use them. So they have more meaning to me then the actual type of flower.
~LeAna~

QOD2: I have no idea about flowers either Kathy!! I can't wait to read everyone's answers! I need help too!

07-18-2006, 02:10 PM
QOD: All I know is I will not have any roses. I personally do not like roses. I want tulips and lots of them, lol. I know I want white tulips. Since my dress is Navy Blue that is probably the only flowers I will have. Maybe some other white flowers thrown in and wrapped with red ribbon. My bouquet will be the only real flowers in the entire ceremony and reception. I am allergic to bees and such and too many flowers, outside, would not be a good idea

QOD: I went to my first florist yesterday. I would suggest going in for a consultation if you're really lost. They helped me so much.
I told her what kinds of flowers I was thinking and the colors, and she came back with something I really liked.
White roses
Blue Hydrangea
Blue Delphinium
Lavendar Stock
White Gerberas
White Asiatic Lilies
I'm excited to see what the others I'm going to talk to come up with. :)

Wow I miss a day or two and already on 9 pages!
QOD1: I have some music picked out, but I keep changing it cause I hear something else I like better.
Prelude - So far I have "What a Wonderful World" by Rod Stewart and 2 more that I dont know the names of!
Bridal Processional - Storybook Love *It's the Princess Bride theme!!!*
Unity Candle - Even though FH is totally against this... right now its Time of My Life Instrumental
First Dance is gonna be "You and Me" by Lifehouse
QOD2: I kinda knew what kind of flowers I wanted to have. Were getting everything from Sams and doing them the night before.
lots and lots of white roses, blue hydrangeas, and possibly white callas or casablanca lillies
Aramelle

Thanks for the comments on Reggie, ladies. I think he's pretty adorable myself. :D
QOD ~ Ugh...the flowers have been the absolute WORST part of planning for me! I've posted more than one long-winded vent about them in the past. I'm just not much of a flower person, but I do feel strongly enough about them to feel that I absolutely need to have bouquets/bouts/corsages. What I decided to do was to ask each of my BMs in the questionnaire I sent out what their favorite flower was, in hopes that I would get a combination that would actually work together. They all said roses...light pink for one, light yellow for another, and ivory for the third. I think those colors will go nicely with the peri we're using for our main color, so we are going to use that combination. I like the idea that part of my girls' tastes/personalities will be drawn into the wedding with this choice.
Wow...that was a bit of a long-winded answer, huh? Sorry! :o

Aramelle, was it you who posted a thread about the BMs having different single color bouquets and then the bride having one made up of all their colors? If not, I think that would be cute for you. Each of the girls could have their favorite color. Even if you use all the colors for everyone I do think it is a sweet idea to use their picks.

I did consider that, but have been told it would be quite "inappropriate" to have someone other than the bride carrying an ivory bouquet. Plus, the more that I thought about it, I'd really like them to be all the same. So, we're all going to have all of the colors. Mine will just be larger and will be tied with a different color ribbon than the girls'.

QOD #2When I first started planning I wanted pale pink peonies. We always grew them at my parents house so they reminded me of home. When we started planning the wedding for late June, I was afraid that it would be too late in the season for them. I was flipping through magazine and saw some beautiful hydrangeas. I like the single flower arrangements and you don't need many to look really full so that is my choice...at least for now. My mom is supposed to be meeting with a florist sometime soon.

Hey ladies. I was going to dropin yesterday but this got crazy. The night before last fh and I decided that we were going to demo some things in the kitchen. So we did. Got everything out a little after midnight. So yesterday I was cleaning. Man oh man. We took out a oven and seperate range and put in our oven and fridge. It looks great. Then today I went to the eye doctor with my mom. I drove her there and we each picked out new glasses. Can't wait to get them. I think that they look cool.
Someone had asked a question about flowers. When I first started planning I didn't know what kind of flowers I wanted. So as we all know that you can look at everything on line and I came across some great looking calla lillie bouquets. Plus they were blue in the pictures. So that is when I decided that I wanted calla lillies. The only thing I found out later is that they don't grow blue. SO I think I am going to go for all white callas and then make some blue bouquet jewelry. It will look great.
Holy smokes less then a year away.:wow: Thats crazy. Before we all know it we will all be married. :bliss:

Hi, ladies! I posted a question in the board suggestions thread asking if this thread asked, and then, before my response even showed up, I'd found the thread... whoops.
So guess what- less than 6 months for me now! How crazy is that??
My mom and sis and I worked on our BM dress last night. I think we came up with a finalized pattern! (We're using a real pattern but adding stuff on as well.) Watch for pics on my journal- they'll be up eventually. :)
ETA: I looked back at this page which lead me to the previous pageand discovered that others have already pointed out for me that my wedding is coming up so soon- mine and Abi's, too. So. Okay, so I'm looking around in myspace a little while ago and decide to look up Chris. He has himself listed as divorced. It was one of the features that had been implemented right before the site started crashing, so all of those features were pulled. Lacie said that it will be the first thing re-installed.

I just went to read what was going on with it. I figured it was that. Like I told Lacie, I'd rather have everyone together without all the fancy stuff then try to get to much stuff going on and lose everyone again.

Kathy~ Yay for getting your wedding band. The ring is beautiful. :)
Nikki~ That's awesome that you also got your ring (and your e-ring back). They did a great job, and the rings look perfect together. Please don't take offense to this, but I feel the need to make sure that you realize you were wearing it upside down (the wedding band goes on first). I don't mean to come across as rude, that is just a major pet-peeve of mine. :o You likely know that and were just doing it quickly, but I couldn't resist pointing it out just incase.

Ok, so the power is still out... they said it wont come back on till between 11 pm tonight and 1 am. It is still 95 degrees outside and its 95 degrees inside. And as it turns out, our unit of townhomes (theres a total of 6 in each unit) out of 25 units and 2 others are the only ones without power. We are just hoping that the power does come back on soon! On the radio it said that the area that we live in, about 50% of the homes have had no power since thursday night.
Ok thats enough ranting from me... it might be the heat though... Sorry!

QOD: Sat.- I basically went window shopping with FH in a town with a lot of ma and pa type of stores. Tomorrow, I'm seeing Lady in the Water with a friend- despite it getting bad reviews.
My surrounding towns didn't have power for a couple of days. I got lucky, the power didn't go out at my house but there were stores and restaurants closed here. Traffic lights were out. People kept coming into my workplace complaining of no air conditioning and worrying about their food going bad.

I was sad. Even though it was one day I missed chatting with everyone.
I actually did more work then I thought I was going to. I cleared off my porch so that I could fit my patio stuff up there. It was hot and there was alot of stuff to move. Looks great now. Then yesterday I did some yard work. Pulled weeds, sprayed to kill weeds. All that fun stuff.

I did some housework over the weekend. But didn't feel real great so didn't get much done.
I was planning on having catering and a DJ done by the end of this month so I better get going on that. Have not even gotten in touch with any DJ's. How did you all pick yours? Our photographer did recommend one. She goes to a lot of weddings, should I just take her word for him being good?

Hi girls,
I posted this last night late when the site came back up, but all those initial posts got eaten, so I wanted to post again.
I was working on the budget for the wedding yesterday (I wanted to do something wedding related even if I couldn't get on MLW :() and I looked at the post office website to try to figure out a budget for postage for invites, etc.
Looking around, I noticed that they're hoping to raise prices of stamps in Spring 2007, though not before May 2007, which is something to keep an eye on for those of us who will be mailing invitations next year. They're revamping the pricing system a little, so while a regular letter goes up to 42 cents, I don't know what the heavier weights would be. I budgeted up 3 cents (66 cents instead of 63 like now) since I figure invites will probably be bigger. :)

Hi ladies. what did everyone do when the site was not avaiable yesterday??
I worked...and had a very long day trying to keep busy searching for this or that, but it didn't work :( I also searched and ended up on another wedding site - looked at some of the posts (didn't have to register) and got some good information () and ideas. But man, that other place is boring - hardly anyone there - there were posts on the first page of the forum from way back in November of 2005. I LIKES our nice little community here :jump4joy:

And my reply to Jessica got lost somewhere too. I had also heard that postage was going up. Who knows when they'll actually get it in effect but would be good for those who are sending out their invitations right around that time to keep in mind. If you have a lot to send out it might be worth sending them out a week or two early to save the money before they postage goes up.
KathyandJer
07-24-2006, 02:17 PM

Well, forgive me for posting in the BRIDES thread...;) But I had to see it with my own eyes since postage did just increase in January. Sure 'nuff...What a crock (http://www.usps.com/ratecase/welcome.htm)...Anyway, there's the link to the USPS.com page about the increase. :(
Sk8ermaiden
07-24-2006, 03:46 PM
Boo price increase! I can't send mine out that early.
Yesterday I hung out with FH, and we watched the Astros beat the mets (only on tv) YAY! Then we talked a lot about the wedding, and he helped me pick a cake style and helped me decide how to change the invitations so they'll be how we want. I'll probably have the mockups of the new idea done sometime tomorrow. We also updated the budget, and realized that we've managed to bring costs DOWN almost $1,000 from what we estimated. How's that for awesome?
Today I met with a photographer and a day-of coordinator. The photographer was ok, but the coordinator may be my favorite person ever. She's mailing me a quote tonight, and I hope we can afford her. She also told me that my caterer is awesome and that the florist that I want to book is really good and very inexpensive. That was really nice to hear. I meet with two florists and a photographer tomorrow.

Jer, you can post here! Unless Kathy has told you that you can't ;) They started talking about another postage increase as soon as this one was done. I don't know why they didn't just ask for what they needed to begin with and get it over with.
Kellie, you are doing great getting things done. I'm beginning to think about a day of coordinator. I have no idea how things will get done that day. We don't have any family who lives here who will know enough about what is going on to help much. We'll see.

Actually, I was listening to some radio show right after the last increase and someone asked that question too.
Apparently, the USPS is forbidden from making any kind of profit, and so it can't raise rates until they need it. So, even though they know they'll need the money next year, they can't raise rates until the budget is at that point. Plus, apparently, the last raise was because of some thing congress had them do with putting money in escrow (WTF?) and this next one is about allowing them to cover costs, since contrary to popular belief the USPS has to cover its costs itself now...

Nevermind it going up # cents when you are paying 40cents now. I am paying .54 cents right now to mail in Canada. So if it goes up I am going to be @ .57 cents. Now that is something to complain about.
But then again why complian because it happend every year that they raise the price on postage. Its a part of life.

To serve up the cake, yes, you do generally need a server, but you can easily use your caterer's or borrow one from a family member.

Hi ladies.
I am not buying a cake cutting set. We are having a cup cake cake, so I think it will look weird cutting a cupcake. At least this way I can slam the hole cupcake in scotts face and vice versa. lol
I am thinking about phoning and making a appointment with a photographer in the next week or so. I would really like to get this done. It has been hovering over my head for months. Same with a ceterer.
Yesterday I made some phone calls to try and find a place that does engraving on glass beer mugs. My parents are going out of town middle of August. I found a place that only charges $10 a mug. Not per word or per letter, but per mug. Which is great cause I have 6 that I have to get done. Now I have to figure out what I want on the mugs. Font and size. I was thinking about getting for example:

I probably won't buy a cake server set and toasting flutes. We were thinking of putting it on our registry and if we got it for the shower, we would use it. If we don't get it, we may just use what the reception place has to offer. It just seems depressing to have another expense and only use it once. That's my view on it anyway. HI ladies how are things going?? Well today I got my new glasses. I love them. They look great on my face. I'll have to take a picture and show you all.
I was talking with my mom today and was asking her about some wedding things today. I am thinking that the father daughter dance will not be slow. It will be something fast. Something different. Why have something slow and weepy. Thats not us. We are there to have fun, not to cry. I also told fh last night that he can pick our first dance. He said I guess that means it has to be slow. I said no it doesn't, but keep in mind that we have to dance to it. Oh now I have to dance he said. Well yes. So he said that he has a song in mind but also thinks that the song will piss people mainly his family off. I said to him that it don't matter what other people think. Its a song that we like. Again there to have to fun. So it will be interesting to see what song he wants.
I also was busy doing yard work yesterday. I cleaned up dog doo, and then cut some branches off of a tree, painted the trim around the window in the living room, and just little things. I am liking this house/yard. Next summer it will look great.
Other then that nothing new.

That price increase is a tad bit frustrating. I guess though that it was going to cost me almost 100 to send all my invitations so now it really doesn't make much more difference. I figure 150 invitations (roughly, we're inviting almost 300 people) which will be $99.
UGH.

Since yer getting married in January of '07, and we're in August...I mean, you are just right up in that state up there...Could we borrow your sword?
Hey, girls, I'm back- again! I was so excited to get back to you ladies and then stupid computers and a surprisngly tiring week-long job and migraines interfered and all that is done and now I'm back. For those of you who remember my journal from UW, I added new stuff just now- BM dresses and I tried to add FG dresses but the pictures wouldn't show up for some reason.:dontknow: So soon. And also soon pics of my centerpiece.
So I have a question for y'all- perhaps a new QOD but I haven't read the pages I missed so maybe there's already a QOD. Are there any wedding day surprises for you? FH is keeping our wedding night accomodations a secret (you might remember, the whole HM was supposed to be a secret but I told him I wanted a cruise and he said okay and then we booked it together so so much for that surprise) and I keep bugging him because it's fun to bug him. And then he went out and picked out tuxes a couple of weeks ago and he won't tell me what he's wearing! Nothing about it! He said, well, he can't know what I'm wearing, and I said but he already has a secret from me- where we're staying on our wedding night! But now he has two secrets from me and it's killing me!

QOD: Our honeymoon is a secret. He's also going to get me a gift that'll be a secret. I guess if he has anything else planning, it's better that I not know. I knew he had my engagement ring for well over 6 months and bugged him about it every single day.
Jer ~ You're going to have to take that one up Patrick. He'll be receiving his comission from the Army in December and it'll be his Army Officer's saber.

I know he will have a gift that is a surprise for me the morning of our wedding but we haven't discussed the HM.

Abi:
Sweet deal. :D Go Patrick! :D:D
Oh speaking of cutting the cake- I don't have a picture of what we're using, but I'll tell you- it's really important to me that we include my dad's parents, since they won't be with us. Obviously, I'll have her rings, and then I'll have her garter, and we're going to put memorial roses in my bouquet (three white roses next to whatever I have as my bouquet as a memorial to Granny, Gramps, and FH's grandfather). But then my mom had the idea of using Granny's knife. She collected depression glass and left me her china cabinet and tons of one pattern of depression glass. She also had a couple of knives which aren't my pattern and we don't actually know what they are; one of them is engraved with "Worlds Fair." But they're pink glass knives and they're gorgoues and I'm going to use one of those to cut the cake!

Ashley, love your new signature, the colors match MLWs so well! :)
Marion, hello and welcome to GG. I think you are still doing fine with a year to go. I really didn't do much planning until the May and our wedding is May 2007.
Jer, I do believe that every groom is suppose to have a sword to protect his bride ;) Sorry Kathy :hide: (I can say that though because Chris hasn't found these boards yet:hehe: )
Lela, welcome back with us again! And I love the idea of using your granny's knife. It sounds beautiful.
QOD: I have a surprise gift for Chris. And he may have one for me I don't know and he knows better then to tell me if he does! I'll be spending the night before at our wedding night room so that will not be a surprise. And while I have told him he is in charge of the HM I don't think he will book anything without me saying it was okay. He has great taste and I wish he trusted his instincts more but he wants to make sure I'll be happy so I don't see him planning anything that big totally on his own. I guess I should be glad he cares so much about me being happy. :)

You have to surprise your fh with a gift?? Oh my lanta. Something else that I have to think about. Does everyone do this??
As for the honeymoon thing as far as I know we will not have one. Unless fh is planning something. Which I couldn't see, but you never know. I would love to get away but with running a family buisness I couldn't see it. Oh well we will get away sooner or later.
I'll be back on later. I'm running off to watch BB. Its eviction night tonight.

No, remember, Jillian bought a knife from an ebay auction, only to find out it didn't come with a server. Since she wants a matching set for the reception, she's going to borrow those from her site. She's going to get the ebay knife engraved for special occasions...not the venue's knife. :pWhat she said!
Thanks Kellie!
Lela - Your post could have been written by my MOH, she's the same way with surprises. I think he's being really sweet having a surprise for you.

Nikki, I think normally the bride and groom exchange gifts. But not all do. With more and more bride and grooms paying for their own weddings I think it might be done less. I just got Chris the dogtags I have pictured in my journal. They were less then $10 so I didn't do anything fancy.
Yeah, Nikki, don't worry about exchanging presents. From what I've heard, most of the girls I know aren't doing gifts with their FHs. FH and I haven't talked about it for us- I think I'll probably surprise him with a gift but not tell him I'm planning on it so he doesn't feel like he has to buy me something.

Okay, and the QOD!
Are there any wedding day surprises for you? Not that I know of! I'm sure Michael will surprise me with a gift and vice versa, but other than that I hope so but I hope they're GOOD surprises!
And thanks Lisa! They're also my wedding colors - the green here on MLW is probably closer to mine, but the other green is just as purdy :)
Oh hey I didn't either.

Saturday I have a dentist appointment.
Sunday morning we'll go to some travel agents to find out how much our honeymoon is. Maybe Sunday later on I'll head to DB to look at BM dresses.
Other than that I'll be relaxing. It was suppose to rain today but it's looking good so far.

As for surprises...I don't think there will be any.
This weekend...tonight we are going to a concert with my friend Michael (the one who is standing on my side at the wedding), and his new girlfriend. Saturday we're taking his parents by the reception venue, and later that day is our friend's bachelor party, which means I'll be left to my own devices.
Today I mail off deposits to the photogrpaher and florist! :bliss:

It is hard sending out the money but it does feel good to cross things off the list so congrats on the photographer and florist.
We met with a caterer yesterday. If we go with them our buffet will be: prime rib, chicken marsala, baked ziti, crab cakes, roasted red potatoes, and green beans with almond slivers. They also include ice tea, coffee, dinner rolls and they say a chef's dessert table (do you have additional desserts at weddings or just the cake?). We didn't pick our menu until after we met with her so didn't get an exact price but it will probably be about $25/person.
We have also decided on Sangrias as our "signature" drink. Since our wedding is on Cinco de Mayo. Other then that we are just going to offer beer and wine at the bar. I think that will keep everyone happy.
I still have a couple caterers I want to get a hold of. But we eat at this resturant all the time and it was the location of our first date so I'd really like to use them. I just worry that if they mess up our wedding we loss our favorite place to eat out cause I could never eat there again without being reminded what a terrible job they did for the wedding. Yes, I worry about those kind of things LOL

I'm not sure what we're up to tonight. I know we're going to either Pappadeaux's or Pappasito's to use a gift card that I have and then maybe over to our friend's apartment (married friends) to play poker. Or just getting a movie and relaxing. Then tomorrow of course we have the wedding to go to.
QOD: If you could start all over again, would you elope or have the big wedding?

Lisa, our cateer offers the desserts too, but we got her to switch them to hours d'ouevres.
I love this wedding, and planning it is really fun, plus my FH has been so sweet about everything and so helpful. So I'd have to say the wedding!! I haven't seen hide nor hair of that engagement stress/fighting that people warn you about.

QOD: I would still do the big wedding. I am having soooo much fun with this. I also probably wouldn't have met you guys if I had've eloped.
So, I've been house sitting/pet sitting all week for my mom. Somehow, she forgot to tell me when she was coming home. I thought it would've been yesterday or today. Well, she called this morning and, no, she'll be home Sunday evening. I did all that cleaning yesterday for nothing!

So exciting news, I went to check the mail for my dad today and the STD for my sister and her boyfriend was in there. So I assume that some of the other local ones were delivered today.
It begins .....:bliss:
QOD: I'd totally do the wedding again- although I still haven't been through the last days/wedding day crazy stress so maybe that choice will be different six months from now! :) But FH has been great helping me and coming up with his own ideas (wait till you see the invitations he's designing for us right now) and it's still all been wonderful.
My weekend plans are to clean my room (blegh) because if I don't clean it now when it comes time to move some of my stuff into Kellen's apartment (assuming he ever gets a full-time job to be able to afford an apartment) things will really stink. But tomorrow should be interesting- we got a call from Bridal Preview International and we're going to a 90 minute showcase where I'm sure they'll pressure us to buy a bunch of expensive china and crystal and stuff but for no obligation, absolutely no strings attached, we get a 3 day, 2 night stay at "an all-inclusive 4-star resort in the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, or Mexico." Plus a 35 mm camera with free film and discounted developing. I figure 90 minutes of saying "NO" is worth a free vacation, right? Have any of y'all heard of Viva Resorts? I checked out their website but personal experience is always preferable....

I like that idea, I may ask them about that. Trade something for our cocktail hour.
QOD: I'd do the wedding again. We talked about a small wedding out here and then a reception in my home town and Chris's but I think planning two receptions long distance would have been more stress. More of our families would have been able to join us which would have been nice. But at least now if nobody shows up I can tell myself it is the distance and not that they don't like me :giggle:
Abi, looking forward to hearing the comments your family and friends make on your STDs. They are great I know they'll love them.
Speaking of STDs. I've decided to have Lacie design mine for me. I've tried making the magnets and just can't get them the way I want them. So she will design them, send me the program and I'll print them out. So I can still say I made them :laugh3:

I'd do the wedding too. There are days that I wonder why the hell I'm planning such a big deal, but I know if I was to elope I would regret it. Plus, like Abi said, if I did elope I wouldn't have met you guys!
angie

QOD: Nah, I wouldn't elope. It means a lot to me to have all our friends and family there supporting us and sharing our big day.
Lisa...Most places around me seem to offer a separate dessert and then they wrap a piece of the cake for you to take home.

QOD: I'd probably still do the big wedding, I would have just planned on having the wedding sooner than we are.
