I'm already married, but may I say I sympathize? AND we were actually offered by his folks to fly my family (there's only 6 of us. Really.) and his brothers down to vancouver island where his parents live and we could get married on the beach with only immediate family in attendance. The offer was HARD to pass up!

Ok, this is totally random. But Bruce and I just opened a joint checking account!!!! We did it so I can track his credit (for free) so we know what to expect when we apply for our mortgage, but it just excites me a little knowing that any day now there will be checks in my mailbox that have our names on them!

We opened one in May and I was really excited. I keep track of all of our finances so it only made sense to only have 1 checking acct because it would be easier for me. I never wrote out checks but now that we have them with both of our names on it I find myself writing more checks :)

We had a joint account before we were engaged. He had to close his account because his mother was also on it and she kept taking his money. He went without one for a couple of months before he asked me if I'd open one with him.

We had a joint wedding savings account and then once we purchased the house last November we opened a joint checking account for household expenses. Since we won't move in until September, the only thing we do with the account is pay the electricity bill.

I am glad that I am not the only one oddly excited about this. He won't have checks or a card (and he is the primary) but his name will be on the checks. It may end up being the house account later, but who knows.

Hi Katie, Hi Jessica
This thread is too slow. Let's start chatting with a QOD
What is the best and worst part of being engaged?
Christa
07-21-2006, 09:34 PM
What is the best and worst part of being engaged?
The best part is knowing that you are getting married and the worst part is the wait!
MsJessica07
07-22-2006, 01:01 AM
The best is planning the wedding and knowing that we are getting married...and I think the worst part has also been planning the wedding and the fights it's caused with both FH and my parents...his parents aren't really interested enough to get angry...
soulmates
07-22-2006, 01:05 AM
The best part is knowing that you are getting married and the worst part is the wait!
I second that!
Deidre98
07-22-2006, 09:33 PM
The best part is knowing we are one step closer to being married and spending the rest of our lives together and the worst part is the planning because everyone is trying to add in their 2 cents on what they think is best for US.
Marisa
07-24-2006, 09:46 AM
What is the best and worst part of being engaged?
The best part is the preparations for a strong marriage. The worst part is the focus on this one day that doesn't ensure that the rest of the marriage is sound.
Hughto

Hi hi-
Uhm... uh... uhm... let's see... uh... just starting craft project count? What about finding an additional photographer... wasn't really on the list, but ya know... uhm... I found Sporrans for the boys... that's something I crossed off my list.. And you're right... never ending...

You decided on the groom! That's a big accomplishment!! :laugh3: And it looks like you set a date! So you've got two things right there!! :hehe:
Hi hi-
We are having a Scottish Renassiance Wedding and Sporrans are those things that hang in front of the kilts... It's like a purse... The problem is that most of them are made REALLY big for like men and our boys are not anywhere close to men. The smaller ones that I found were expensive or just pouches and that's not what we wanted. I found a lady online who custom makes them and viola! $80 for two custom made sporrans with shipping... Considering Honey's cost me $210... $80 for two was nothing...
TTFN...

Ahhh...$80 for 2 of them does sound good! Yay for getting what you want and at a good price!! :whoop:
What is the last wedding related task you crossed off your (never ending) list??
Set the date! We agreed on 06.07.08 (cuz it sounds and looks nice, hahaha, and it's a little farther from Memorial Day weekend).
Next up... the venue, I want to have that set so I don't have to stress about it.

Bubbles, ribbons, and napkins.
Next thing, book videographer (Monday?)
Hi hi-
I can't cross the craft projects off my list yet... I put another coat on the horseshoe today... (we're using it instead of a pillow for the rings)... and I went in search of a mini red carnation but no stores have them right now. They are on their fall collection... I even know the girls at the Shari's where we live and they didn't have any either... yes, I know Shari's is a resturant, but they have those fake flowers all over the place... I just need one little mini carnation to finish one of the projects I'm working on... *sigh*
Uhm... other than that... nothing going on... at this point, I am not above stealing a mini carnation if I see one in an arrangement or something. Honey and I were joking at dinner about me calling him because I got arrested for taking a red mini carnation from somewhere...

Okay...I have another question...
How much time would you estimate you spend working on wedding-related tasks, lets say in a week? Has it been the same all through your engagement so far?
Hi hi-
No Way... some weeks I don't do anything, but then on other weeks I'm going crazy doing things... these next couple of weeks are going to be crazzzzzy... Too much to do and not enough time to get them done in.

So far all I'm doing is researching wedding stuff, and I do that at work, between classes, at home after class ... pretty much whenever I can get to a computer. It's been pretty much the same the whole time, I'm just a little more focused now :)

Hi girls!! I haven't been i here in ages.
QOD1: The last wedding thing I did was order butterflys for the bouquets and flower patals. Next to do is mail a BM newsletter about the dresses.
QOD2: I don't think I actually spend a lot of time on wedding related things (on line a lot but thats just fun). I think b/c we've been engaged so long we were able to spread it out and it hasn't been a huge focus.
Vanessaness
10-24-2006, 11:37 PM
Last wedding related thing we crossed off our to do list was hiring the Harpist and sending her her deposit.
Next thing to do on the list is deciding on a florist/decorator.
Also...
On average I think I spend maybe a couple of hours a day working on something wedding realated. Weather its calling vendors to get quotes or just looking up inspiration pics on the internet or magazines its always something. :D

Ummm....
QOD: What's been the hardest things to find/arrange/set up/etc so far in planning? What about the easiest?
My answer: The hardest so far has been finding an officiant, and the easiest...the venue.

The hardest so far has been finding a florist. I've been looking, but so far I haven't come across anything that I really like.
The easiest was the reception location for us.

QOD:
easiest: Picking a date. We did that like the day after we got engaged and it really was just a matter of looking at a calendar for the exact date because we knew whan we wanted it.
hardest: the reception hall. We are on hall number 2 right now. The first one was giving us conflicting numbers as to how many people would fit in the room so we had to find a new one.

Easiest: Picking a date. I knew I wanted a March wedding and he loved the idea of it not being hot.
Hardest: Paying off everything.

I think the easiest thing for me was picking my MOH and BMs. Hardest....so many things have been difficult for on reason or another...guess I'll be general and say planning from 1500 miles away.

I think the easiest was choosing the season/month for the wedding - we were actually discussing having a winter wedding in our conversation that turned into the proposal. So that was definitely easy.
I don't think we've gotten to anything hard yet. The most frustrating was finding the perfect BM dress, in the perfect color, only to find that it's been discontinued. We're still far enough away for it to not be a big deal, though, so I'm not too worried about it. We'll find another dress :)
