I don't think we will be having any alcohol except a margarita machine. Possibly a few cases of been for anyone who might want it. Does it seem like enough to just have everyone sign the guestbook and get their drinks and seats and listen to music for an hour?
I don't want everyone to be bored, and I'm really not sure if I should let them start eating? I dont want everyone to be done eating by the time we get announced and have to wait on us to eat for anything to happen.
What did those of you that had a cocktail hour but no bar do?

I think it's always a good idea to provide some sort of hors d'oeuvres with alcohol, so people aren't drinking on an empty stomach. You don't need anything fancy, just some cheese and crackers (or chips and good salsa or something else that would go well with margaritas and beer). This also provides something for the people who don't drink. You might think to provide water, lemonade and iced tea for those teetotalers too.

If you have music playing, your guests will be fine for an hour. They will mingle, and surely this will be a welcome "catch up" time for people who haven't seen each other in a long time.

Ok. I was just freaking out that an hour would be a long time to wait and I don't want everyone falling asleep or wanting to leave....Thanks!

I would probably have beer, white wine, red wine, soda. If you want mixed drinks do at least 2-3 this will give your guests a better variety because you never know what everyone will drink. I also agree with hor'dourves as well (passed hor'dourves! ) is a great idea) this will keep everyone chatting and mingling if you are doing pictures at this time as well. It will not even feel like an hour went by.

I agree with the hors d'oeuvres also. Food ibefore the meal is always good.

I agree with the hor d'ourevres as well. We had a cheese and cracker tray, a veggie tray, fruit tray, and something else, and it was all GONE by the time we got introduced and into the room.
