Our 3 year anniversary was coming up and we agreed not to give gifts to each other. I didn't need anything and he is so hard to buy for! We did plan on going out for dinner that Sunday with another couple to celebrate.
Our anniversary was on a Wednesday last year. I work with FSIL and it was a pretty slow night. After supper, she kept saying things like "oh we will be out in good time tonight" and "since it's not busy you will be able to go home early". I was thinking she was saying that as I am not on salary yet and I can leave whenever the work is done.
So I am wandering around, helping everyone out, puttering around... really not being busy. FSIL tell me to go, she can finish up. I get home just before 11:30 and FH is still up. On the coffee table there is a large bouquet of carnations and a card. He is sitting on the stairs with a big goofy grin on his face. I figured it was because he bought be the flowers even though we agreed no gifts.
After I read the car and thanked him, I give him a big kiss. I was tired and ready for bed. He grabs my hand, reaches out into his pocket and pulls out a small box. My first thought was a ring but I figured no way. He says that he knows this isn't the type of box I had wanted but he hoped I would like it anyway. I open it up and inside was a beautiful pair of white gold hoop earrings. I gave him a kiss and told he that he shouldn't have. I was on my way upstairs to bed again, when he takes my hand and says "I hope this is the type of box you have always wanted". I start to shake as I open the box and inside was my perfect engagement ring! I stood there in shock for quite some time and the first words out of my mouth was "are you kidding me?" Then he puts it on my finger and all I can say is "Oh my god"! :lol: After a few minutes of shock I finally manage to say yes!
I was so excited to go into work the next day. I arrived before FSIL and as I was setting up my microscope, I see her come in. I look at her, she looks at me and gives me that look and that's when I knew she knew. I jump up and the first thing we did was give each other a big hug then we both started to cry! :lol: Of course everyone comes over to see what the commotion is about and they too were very happy for me! I find out later that FSIL was trying to get me out of work earlier. She knew he was going to propose that night and she wanted me to get home!
Since he proposed late at night, I had to wait until the next day to call everyone, but everyone already knew! He family all knew and mine knew as he asked my dad for permission. That is the way he is. And my dad set us up so he thought it would appropiate. :)
