FH mentioned maybe going to Texas or another southern state sometime during his school's spring break (early April) or in the summer after our wedding (2008). Does anyone have any ideas of places to go or things to do to keep us occupied for about a week?

I would think going to San Antonio would be enjoyable. You could do the riverwalk or shops and go to the Alamo and other interesting places. I live about 4 hours north of there in Fort Worth/Dallas area. I love Fredericksburg (not far from San Antonio) because they have a fairly big town square with neat little shops and bakeries and it's an old German town so it's rich in history. Kemah is a neat little town on the Gulf Coast near Galveston with lots of restaurants and shops and also has a little boardwalk with an amusement/carnival like area if you want a beach vacation.

San Antonio would be fun - I've been there for a bowl game once (freshman year, when I was in marching band), and it'd be nice to check out the River Walk when I'm actually of age and not 19. I think something beachy would be nice too, as well as maybe something museum/history-y. Brian suggested looking up when different fairs/festivals are ... any ideas about those?

Or Galveston. We went this past summer and had a lot of fun. We rented a beach house on the beach.

Corpus Christi!!! South padre!!

Pretty beaches, water parks, etc. Web search Corpus.

Beware...if you go anywhere beach related for Spring Break, it's going to be crowded unless you find a seculded area. Galveston is pretty limited in itself but if you have a car you can get to Kemah which is fun.

The others are right...San Antonio is cool. There is a lot of history there. There is the riverwalk, there's bars and clubs, great restaurants. It's a good place.

Being from Texas, I don't think it's that fun for multiple days unless ya'll are willing to travel a bit to see different things.

Not sure about fairs and festivals..I'm from the Dallas area, and every year there's the State Fair in October and then StockYards in Ft Worth going on now. I don't know any that's during Spring Break though.

But, as far as Museums, and history-y, IMO Dallas would be good (I'm biased  ) You're an hour away from Ft Worth, and many suburbs. There's tons to do that's a short drive here in DFW..Just another thought.

Let us know if you decide on Texas. I'll be interested to see where you end up going. And as I said before, you could definitely have a good time!
