We recieved a crystal sugar and creamer set. It's something an 80 year old would have on their table. We also recieved a huge crystal bowl that is so heavy that I have no idea what to do with it. It's triangular shaped. They left the price tag on it and it was $250.

At my first wedding one of the guests gifted us a Kama Sutra book  It wasn't tongue-in-cheek, either, he wrote a card about wishing us to explore our spiritual sexuality or something like that. I'm not complaining, though!

Coincidently, we got books from another guest: Light on Orient and Basics of Hindusim. I read them during our honeymoon, actually.

WORST gift: a handcarved wooden angel. This thing prob. cost this woman 20 to 30$, and it looked like she dug it out of the trash! The paint was made to look "distressed" At first, I couldn't even tell what it was! I sold it for $1 at a garage sale we had before DH moved in.

Ok, you have to know my grandparents...they are HUGE yardsalers. They don't pay full price for most things.

For my shower my Gram gave me a piggy bank that said RETIREMENT in big green letters and a fly swatter. lol She's so cute though, I love her to death.

I would have returned that so fast...I could have spent that 250 on something way better!

We didn't get any Horrible gifts, just several duplicates of things, and things that we hadn't registered for and didn't really need.

We were lucky- we got only 1 horrible gift... it was a HUGE box. We had no idea what it was, but it was labeled "Tall Hurricane." When we got it out of the box it was a humongous glass tube, a platform of fake wood and silver crusty stuff, and another silver crusty ring that evidently went on top. It was not cute- and I will guess that assembled it was at least 2 feet tall. We live in a townhome. Where could we put something like that even if we liked it?? My only thought was on the plant shelf over the stairs. Hugo got it up there next to the basket and topiary we already had displayed, which it clashed horribly with. We burst out laughing when we saw it- all I remember was he said, "And what is THAT supposed to symbolize?" I told him we would try to let it grow on us to be nice to the giver and keep it- but in the end we returned it for store credit and a nice silk runner. All better now!!

Wow! I would have absolutely LOVED both of those gifts! I actually have a small collection of beautiful cut crystal sugar/creamer sets. :) Too funny!!

We've already got stuff on our Crate & Barrel registry that I never registered for. Apparently someone got excited about a sale they were having because all the bowls were $1.99 as well as the plates, LOL (that doesn't matter, but I think that's what happened). We have these melon bowls and some dish that are UGLY. I mean, super ugly. Oye. That'll be a fun thank you to write -- "thank you so much for the BEAUTIFUL bowls and serving dish, we love them!"

*slaps head*

The only reason I know is I went to edit my registry and saw it. My mom and I thought maybe it was a mistake, but I don't think so...

Ashley, can I say that I hate how registries do that? THere is a ton of stuff on my BB&Beyond registry that I didn't register for, but was bought anyway (I've been peeking).

I'll find out today what my weirdest/worst gift is. EEK!!!

We didn't get anything too terrible, but there are a few things that were kinda notable...

MIL bought one of those Christian wisdom books where they take Bible verses out of context and put them into a book about wisdom on something... I think it was called something like "God's Words of Life on Marriage" or something like that... It's a totally useless gift to me because I can't stand books like that... They're just Christian gifty junk. (AKA, an actual Bible would have been more appreciated if she felt the need to be religious).

A copy of the Joy of Cooking on CD-ROM... Okay, this gift from MIL is just kinda funny... When she bought her copy of The Joy of Cooking MONTHS ago, it came with a copy of the book on CD-ROM, which she immediately tried to pawn off on us... which DH had refused to take because it was a program for Windows, and he used Linux... so what does MIL do? She wraps it up and gives it to us as a gift so we HAVE to take it.... Unfortunately, it's a coaster to us...

Crystal wine glasses - One of my mother's friends bought us these fancy set of crystal wine glasses... like the kind that have kinda pointy edges.... and I'm more of a rounded plain wine glass girl...

The Southwestern Wallhanging Puzzle Type Thing.... The parents of my MOH got me this weird wallhanging puzzle thing... and it's kind of an Arizona desert scene with a saguaro cactus... and it's TOTALLY not my style... However, it would match my mother's living room... Would it be wrong to let her have it?

my great aunt gave me what I first thought was the most horrible gift possible, a well "loved" used bowl with a crack and a chip in it. Then she explained that this is her bowl that she makes pierogi's in, and you fill the flour to the bottom of the chip in the bowl, and then she went on with the rest of her instructions for making these.

mswordwiz, that's a really neat gift once it's explained!

I didn't get anything horrible at my shower yesterday, so I guess I'm waiting until the wedding to find out if I have friends/family who's taste differs from ours!

I say, once a gift is given to you, its yours to do with what you wish. If your mom likes it, why not?

Not a wedding gift but...we recieved a black vinyl binder (unwrapped) for Christmas that was a funeral planning book. It was homemade and from my H's brother and his wife, she made it at a church ladies meeting...very festive! HUH?

We didn't get anything horrible at the shower on Sunday. The *worst* thing is one of those metal shower caddies that go over the shower head. We already have one of the corner caddies that we bought and installed, so we have NO use for this.

Other than that, all good stuff :)

The only horrible thing we got was at our shower.
One of our very close family friends that I've known since I was born (and not to mention they are quite rich) gave me a USED fondue set!! I was SO grossed out! There was stuff crusted to the bottom of the pot from previous uses, and everything was all oily because it seems as though they didn't even wash anything before they wrapped it.
I already have 2 fondue sets so I put it downstairs in a box to give to my brother when he moves out of home.
I'm not sure it it was their fondue set or if they bought it at a garage sale, but either way... come on.
