How long before the ceremony starts should there be music playing for the guests?

Did you pick the music or just let the DJ/church/musician play what they wanted?

I'm not sure what time our music will start. Probably about a half hour before. We are having a violinist and I'm leaving the music selection up to her for the pre-ceremony as well as our cocktail hour.

Our musician starts playing a half hour before the ceremony starts.

We are meeting with our pianist soon and we will probably go with his recommendations. I've tried to search for stuff online, but it's probably best to leave it to the pro.

angie are you getting married in a church?

I have heard beautiful piano versions of "endless love", "when I fall in love", "what a wonderful world", and "From this moment"....

IDK if you could use anything like that but, ya know... just toss it out there for ideas:)

We had music playing for 30 minutes before the ceremony. Dan and I each chose an instrumental song to dedicate grandparents/aunts that had passed away. I chose Watermark by Enya and he chose a song from the Ladder 51 soundtrack. (I think, I will have to go look again)

Together, they were about 26 minutes.

Kari, did you put anything in your programs about the special songs?

Yes, we did :)

We listed the song, who wrote it and who is was being played in memory of.

Most organists/pianists plan to play prelude music for 30 minutes. If the wedding is in a church, you will likely be limited to sacred music only so be sure to meet in advance with your musician.

That's what we did as well. We also put it in the programs. I don't remember all of them, but I know they played "Beauty and the Beast" for me. Chad has chosen that one since it's my favorite movie! :)
