FH and I had agreed that waiting until after we graduated (this past december) to get engaged would be for the best. He would ask my Dad's permission the next time we went home together, which would have been Thanksgiving, and I wouldn't neglect my homework and could graduate with good grades, etc. However, I ended up spending all my free time looking at wedding magazines and websites (can't believe it took me so long to find this one!) that if we were engaged, it wouldn't have taken up any more of my time. I tried to be sneaky about it, but it really was common knowledge. :heee:

We went and looked at rings in early October, though, just to give him an idea of what I liked, and so he would know what size I am. As it turned out, he went behind my back and asked my parents permission, and he bought the ring (before they even said yes!). This is where it gets good...

I'd had three nights in a row where I dreamed that Fh was proposing to me, so I'd been thinking about it a lot. He didn't give me any reason to, that man can keep a secret, let me tell you! I was supposed to meet him at his house on Thursday night as he was coming home from work. Well, I got there before he did, but had this weird feeling that I should let him get there first, and that I should give him some time in the house before I arrived. So I drove around for another 5-10 minutes, so he wouldn't see me parked when he got there (which was only a minute after I did, apparently).

Eventually, I got out, and knocked on the door. and waited. I called his cell phone, and he didn't pick up. I rang the door bell, and finally, a minute later he came to the door, out of breath. I hadn't seen him all day and really just wanted to hang out with him. I was tired and hadn't had time to shower that day. So he lets me in, takes me into the den, which is a very closed off room under the stairs and LEAVES ME THERE alone for upwards of 10 minutes. He told me it was a surprise for our anniversary, so I was good and just sat there. AND sat there some more.

Finally, he came to get me, and barely seemed to notice me but took my hand and started bringing me out of the room. He wanted to bring me down the basement stairs with my eyes closed, but I'm clumsy, so no way that was happening. I was very suspicious at this point. Once we got down there, then I closed my eyes, and opened them when we got to a room where there were candles lit, rose petals all over, a futon covered with old bridal magazine pages, the Old 97's song Question was playing, and I DIDN'T SEE THE RING.

It was right in the middle of all the candles, rose petals and magazine clippings inside a pretty black box. But I just said "Oh! you're cute!" Then I saw the ring and I was all tears. He got down on one knee and put the ring on me and asked me to be his wife. I didn't stop crying for about half an hour.

He told me later that he was kind of sad that I just thought his proposal was cute. But he knew that was before I knew for sure that he was proposing! I thought he was, but I didn't want to assume it when all our plans had been to wait another 2-3 months.

What a great way to ask you to marry him. Its also funny that you were dreaming about it. Did you manage to get any pics of how everything was. Those would be great pics to have.

Congrats on the engagement. Can't wait to hear and see all your plans.

We didn't get any pictures... we kind of wanted it to be just us who remembered it... that way it would be our own, and nobody else's. :) I don't think I'll ever forget how it looked. Besides, I definitely don't want any pictures of how I looked that night. I hadn't had a chance to shower and was wearing an old gross stained hoodie.
