I love pouring over my wedding day pictures, now a year and a half after the event. It was such an amazing day, that will forever be etched into my memory.
For those of you who remember me from our beloved site, UW, my wedding story and pictures were pretty awesome (if I do say so myself!)
I am unfortunately working a night shift right now, but I will work on rewriting my story. I'm being selfish because it only allows me to further reflect and remember that life-altering day, and re-visit some of my favorite moments. I hope you guys like my story, and maybe get some ideas for your own! (good or bad! ;))

Greg (then 22) and I (then 20) met in university, in March of 2003. He was in his 4th year of a 5 year engineering degree, and I was just finishing up my 3rd year of a 4 year nursing degree.
The funny thing about our story is that these two faculties are NOTORIOUS for hooking up, engineering being mostly men and nursing being mostly women. But it wasn't until well after we met that we knew what each other was taking.
We met in our university's choir. We knew OF each other before we actually met, but in a choir of 170+ people, you know OF alot of people! We met during one of our choir's social activities. We were putting on a murder mystery for the other members - somewhat of a dinner theatre-type event. In the play, Greg played bodyguard to my mob-princess character. We hit it off really well, and started talking alot on MSN messenger, and through e-mails.
Here's the hitch: When we first met, we both were in very long-term relationships. I was with a man I thought I was going to marry. We never say that we broke up with our SOs for each other, but we were more a catalyst for each other's breakup. I realized that if I could care so much for someone else like I was starting to for Greg, that I could not be with the other person! We were on a choir tour at the end of April of '03, and on the tour is when we started to realize how much we cared for each other.
At the end of tour, we broke up with our SOs.
Our First Kiss:kiss2:
May 10, 2003 (yes, I remember the day!) Greg and I went for a walk in the rivervalley near my house. We ended up by this bench that overlooked the river. We were just talking about everything and nothing - just hanging out in general. We had *JUST* broken up with our aformentioned SOs, and were being VERY careful - we wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing before we started to officially date.
I had PROMISED myself that night that we wouldn't hold hands, that we would hug once at the end of the night, and no kissing! As we stood atop this lookout, he put his arm around me. I returned the favor. I don't know who initiated it, but soon we were hugging, and looking out over the river. Then he turned to me. In a very serious, very sincere voice he asked me "Can I kiss you?"
What's a gal to say??? I'm glad he was hugging me at this point, because my knees went weak!!!!!
The kiss was MAGICAL! I'm glad he made me break my rules!
For some reason, we still managed to wait almost a month before we began officially dating!! And for some reason, he was still nervous when he asked me! He thought there was a chance I'd say no!!
***
That's the story as to how we started out. If our future children ask, we met in choir. And that's as far as we'll say! I sitll feel a bit of shame sometimes in being the "other woman".... :hide:

*I stole this from the proposal stories thread (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?t=488), so if it looks familiar, it is!*
***
The topic of marriage came up very quickly. We had been dating for about 2 months we HE brought it up. He told me he "just knew I was the one". I think I did at that time, but I don't think I believed myself! By August, we had been dating for 2 months, and had been ring shopping...
...I knew he had already bought the ring for me. He told me in the beginning of September that he had gone ring shopping with one of his female roommates, and that he "put a rather large purchase" on his visa. That's all he told me, and then hung up.
October 10 - I was at an out of town dance competition with my sister and my mom. I phoned him to let him know how I did (rather well, thank you) and told him of a few items that my mom needed him to drop off at her place when we returned the next day. He asked me about the box on the stool. I told him that didn't need to go. And then I realized there was no way he should have known about the box - it had been moved there the morning we left, and he had not been at the house. "__, how did you know about the box?" His reply was "I love you sweetie. I'll see you when you get home." I immediately phoned my dad, whom I lived with at the time. He told me that DH had been by to ask him a question. My heart left my chest and I was too distracted the next day to do as well in my trophy dances as I had hoped.
October 18, 2003 - I relented myself to not knowing when or how he would propose. :impatient: I knew he was bad at keeping secrets, but I also knew that this was a surprise I didn't want to ruin. I was over at his place and was in his basement bedroom grabbing my hoodie. And there, underneath my sweatshirt was the bag. And I peeked in (I had to!) and saw the box. DH was standing behind me, and told me that's all I would be able to see until the moment arrived. He "had a plan". I told him that any moment could really be the right moment. All that mattered was that he asked, and I said yes. He couldn't be convinced. We sat on his bed and I tried to contain my slight dissapointment. We talked a little, and then he suddenly started to get up. "All that really matters" he said "Is that I ask you 4 little words, and you reply with one." Before I knew it, he had grabbed the ring box, and dropped to one knee. I instantly started to panic!! I tried to pull him up "You have a plan! You have a plan!" Was I TRYING to stop my own engagement???? He said a whole bunch of pretty words that of course I can't remember. And then he popped the question. OF COURSE I said yes, and despite what he might say, I said it immediately! (he thinks I took my sweet time to respond). I leaned down to him and started to hug him and kiss him. A few moments later he demanded for my finger - I completely forgot about the ring!! :faint:
To this day, he sometimes is dissapointed in himself that instead of having the magical proposal in the rivervalley at the spot where we had our first kiss, we got engaged in his basement bedroom while his roommates and friends played poker upstairs.
But it was a magical moment shared between the two of us, and it makes my heart skip a beat when I think about it all the same
Oh yeah, here's the bling that he picked out completely on his own!!

Sorry guys!! SO MANY WEDDINGS, AND a new job (which is going FABOUSLY, by the way!) has not given me much spare time! And I really LOVE my wedding day story (sorry, but I do!) that I wanted to make sure I get EVERYTHING!! (I love the story, I HATE having to write it over again!!) So here's part 2ish!
***
The fun AND excitement actually started on Thursday, January 27th. I had the day off of work so I could finish up a few last minute details. My dad phoned me up at my apartment to ask if I would be there for a little while - he needed to drop off a wedding present. I thought this was rather odd, saying as 1) I didn't have a car and would have no way of taking it up to the house (my DH and I didn't live together until the wedding) and 2) he would be there at the rehearsal that night, and would be able to easily give the present to my DH to take to the house (where we were having the gift opening the day after the wedding). But I said I would be home for awhile and told him to come on over.
So a few hours later there’s a knock at my door. I opened it to see my dad, a BIG box, and a woman there. She looked a little familiar. It wasn’t until I did a TRIPLE TAKE that I realized it was my one of my BESTEST FRIENDS growing up (like, when I was 3!) from Toronto!! I had sent her and her family invitations, and I knew that her parents were coming, and that she couldn’t because she was IN THE MIDDLE OF SCHOOL! And yet, standing in my doorway, there she was! It seriously took me a few minutes to register everything, so we screamed :jump4joy: , and giggled, and finally I let her and my dad in my apartment!
Did I mention it was AWESOME to see her again? We must have visited for 2 hours or so!
Here is a quick pic of us and her from the wedding!

FH picked me up from my apartment and we went for manicures and pedicures Friday afternoon. It was a deal breaker when we got engaged that we would go for those before the wedding. I had taken Greg for pedicures before (he’s a diabetic and a sandal-wearer!), and was very trusting about the manicure. I figured that it’s the day our hands will be looked at/photographed the most! He NEEDED to have nice hands!
We had a few errands to run that day - pick up table linens, make sure everyone had dresses/suits/anything else needed for Saturday, and before I knew it, we were meeting everyone at the church to decorate. We were almost the last people to arrive, but it’s what people have grown to expect of me. I didn’t want to disappoint them!
The church didn’t take that long to decorate, but it was a major stress. I had people coming from every which way to ask me about what decorations should go where. Then when I gave them an answer, they would argue about it with me!! If you don’t want to know, DON’T ASK!! Gah!!

An especially good bridezilla picture of me...
Thank GOODNESS that Lois and Tim (our pastor (my best friend’s mom) and her husband) set down the rules for the rest of the rehearsal (if you’ve got an opinion about the ceremony, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!) It was awesome!

The weirdest part was when we were practicing the processional. On the arm of my dad, seeing the doors open up and Greg standing at the end of the isle was just too much! That’s when I started to realize just how real this all was!

We had the rehearsal dinner at my dad’s house, where I grew up. It was pretty fun! It was just nice to sit around with family and friends, enjoy BBQ ribs in the middle of winter (thank goodness for a screened-in porch and a devoted father!) and relax before the big day!! It was very surreal, to watch my closest friends and family interact, and knowing that they were all there for our special day!

I woke up that morning in just complete shock. My MOH was asleep next to me (not for long though - I started kicking and squealing shortly after I woke up) and my two BMs were on the air mattress on the floor of my studio apartment. It was a good thing that the screens to my 9th floor apartment were permanently closed, else I might have ended up on the street. You see, I was rather excited. And when Erie gets excited, she gets squealy. I tried to calm myself down slightly and made breakfast while the other girls snoozed just a little bit longer. They eventually got up and the 3 worked on their own hair before my MOH started on mine. The photographer came too to take pictures to capture the start of the day! :kimgrill:

We arrived to the church late, in true Erie fashion. Luckily I had planned on arriving at 11:30 (ceremony started at 1), and we got there at noon instead. But that meant that Greg as well as family were already there. It was a very covert job getting me into the church, unfortunately we didn't get any pics of it :(. I sent in 2 of my BMs to scope out the joint (we were going in through the side door, but the room was still visable from the main foyer) and once they cleared the area, one was sent back and in a cloak of the dress bags, I made my entrance.

We got ready in the parents room of the church. Ugly green walls, but there were toys to distract me. Who am I kidding?? This bridezilla cannot be distracted!
Anyway, some pics of us getting ready!

By the way, the BM dresses were RENTED for $100 each - because they were completely laced up in the back on the top and bottom, the only alterations needed were hemming, included in the price. Also included was the drycleaning before and after. AND they fit all 3 of my BMs with completely different body types!!!!

I LOVE this pic! You look so cute!
OMG! I just realized that your dress style is so similar to mine! I still have to find my upper undergarmet... where did you find yours? It looks very smooth with clean lines which I need or else it would probably show through the dress. My top doesn't have any detail so I am trying to stay away from boning and thick clasps.

Thanks Cindy! :)
I actually bought my boustier (I don't think that's spelt right!) from La Vie en Rose. It's from a company called Piege Lingerie. It's called "Essentials" (I think). There's a place in Windsor that sells them. http://www.yourfinestthings.ca/
It's the best I could find for you. I LOVED the smooth lines - my dress has beading on the top, otherwise nothing on the bodice, so the undergarments didn't take away from the look.
Speaking of dress pics...:poke:

Thanks for the info Erie. :)
Not sure if I will make it down to Windsor but I will definitely check out La Vie en Rose here as well as La Senza. Did yours stay up? I am fairly large and I am worrying about it falling down. Do you know if they come with straps? I hate strapless... I am always fidgeting with them.
As for the dress... I have no one to take a pic of it. :(

Then, the knock on the door. The girls where whisked away, and I was left alone with my dad. It seemed like FOREVER before we were cued. We moved from the room to outside the doors of the sanctuary. I could see the last girl enter the sanctuary and then the doors were closed and we took our place. My train was fluffed, the music cued, the doors opened, and we entered in.

We were married by my friend's parents. Her mom was the one who actually had the ordained to perform the ceremony, but both her and her husband did the vows, and her husband did the sermonette. Throughout our premarital counselling we got to be very close with them, and we still meet with them often for dinner!
We were initially going to write our own vows, but realizing the pressure and difficulty, we settled for writing short letters to each other that would share our thoughts about marriage.
Greg's Letter: Erie, in the last two years we’ve been through a lot of interesting times. Through them all we’ve stuck together and come out better people for it. You’ve encouraged me in my walk with God and together we’ve become much stronger in Him. And now it’s our wedding day! I know our lives aren’t always going to easy, and there will be difficult times, but from what we’ve been through, I’ve learned that together we’ll make it though whatever life throws at us. We are definitely individuals, but together we make a great team. Thank you for being my best friend, thank you for being my biggest fan. I only hope that in the years to come I can make you as happy as you’ve made me. I love you with all my heart, and all my soul. Having you as part of my life is the most wonderful thing I could imagine. I can’t wait to start this next exciting part of our lives, and having you by my side for that journey means it’s going to be the best, most exciting trip of my life. I love you.
Erie's Letter: Greg, the past two years have been amazing. I am so blessed to have you in my life. No matter what we’ve been though, you’ve been there to cheer me on, to listen to me when I’ve needed to vent, and to encourage me to continuously seek God for strength. I hope I have been able to do the same for you. You are the most patient, kind, and caring man I know. I love that you text me messages when you know I’m having a bad day. I love the way you laugh, and your smile brightens my day. I love who I am when I’m with you. I love what you bring out in me, and I love that each day I’m learning more about you. To me, marriage means becoming a family with you. It means spending the rest of my life by your side and continuing to grow in God with you. Words cannot express how excited and happy I am to stand here today infront of you and pledge my life to you. I love you more than I can ever say.

Boy, did I ever CRY!
Our Vows
Greg: Erie, I love you and I am proud to be standing here with you before God, our family, and our friends. During the two years we have known each other our relationship has developed into one of those rare and valued friendships that seem to grow even when we are apart. It is a wonderful gift from God to base our marriage on our mutual commitment to Jesus Christ, our close friendship, and our love for each other.
Erie, I am committed to Christ and to you. As god has called me, I will be the spiritual leader in our marriage and will rely on Him while making ours a Christ-centered home. God has given you a sensitive and gentile spirit with which to interpret this world and I will listen to your thoughts, ideas, judgment and advice. I will seek to know and understand you so that I may better meet your needs, comfort your hurts, and communicate with you openly and honestly. You have my unreserved support, encouragement, and trust.
By God’s grace and power, I will be true and faithful to you until the day one of us leaves this earth to meet with our Savior Jesus in Heaven forever. Erie, these are my promises to you. I love you.
Erie I love you Greg! I am so glad to be here today committing myself to you realizing that you are a gift from God. I’m proud of the man you’ve become. Your character, integrity, and commitment form a solid foundation for our relationship. Your strength and gentleness allow me to feel secure and at home with you. I reassure the fact that we laugh a lot when we are together. With God’s help and the abilities that He’s given me, I promise to make our home a peaceful place you will enjoy coming home to, a place of love, acceptance, and laughter!
I promise to make my relationship with you a priority, appreciating the way that our differences complement one another. With God’s help, I will not run from you emotionally, knowing that you love me and that we both desire to grow through our conflicts. I will trust the Lord to guide us through the rough times as well as the easy ones. I look forward to the growth and enjoyment of living the rest of my life with you.
I am proud to become your wife today. I willingly commit myself to be your best friend, greatest fan, and exclusive lover for as long as God grants me life. Gregory, these are my promises to you. I love you.

Our Ring Exchange
I LOVED our ring exchange because it was private. What I mean is that the pastor's husband spoke while we went to the side of the stage (still in sight) and exchanged our rings. That way we could have a few moments to ourselves! It was a very special time for us.

My favorite part after the ceremony was that my husband whisked me up into his arms and twirled me around in the foyer of the church! The wedding party came out and stood around us clapping and cheering (and avoiding getting hit by my train as I was spun!) :jump4joy:
We then lined up for our recieving line. These are some pics from that, which are a little embarassing, but show how I felt in "the moment"! :happytears:

So we finally got the go ahead to go inside and start taking pics at our reception site. We got married in a big indoor garden - there are 4 different pyramids with different climates of plants, and then our reception was in the common area in the middle. It was great because the pyramids stayed open the entire night for guests who didn't want to dance.
I also loved that our pictures went from "winter" to "desert" and "jungle"!!

We used my MIL and FIL cake servers from their wedding (or anniversary... I think wedding). It now has their names and wedding date, our names and wedding date, and my younger BIL and SIL names and wedding date! I can't wait for it to be handed down! :sappy:

We didn't SMUSH, per say, but we did frost each other's nose!
And Kat - it's the moment you've been waiting for!!

BOOB CAKE!!!! This is not a virgin bride moment, I was not letting DH check out my boobies (although they were ample in that dress!!)
If you notice the icing on our lips, we had just fed each other cake, and a big ol' piece of chocolate cake dropped down my dress!!!!! So DH got a piece of boob cake (to keep things PG13, I fished it out first!! He wanted to grab it for me - I wasn't sure if he was going to use his fingers or his face, but my grandma was sitting right beside us...)

Our first dance was to "You'll be in My Heart" by Phil Collins. I don't know if I mentioned earlier, but Greg and I started out a little rocky - we were both ending longterm relationships. At the end of our choir tour, when our emotions were raw and we were figuring out what to do, Greg and I shared earphones and this song came on my cd player. And in his perfect tenor voice, filled with emotion, he sang this song to me...
Come stop your crying, it will be all right
Just take my hand, hold it tight
I will protect you from all around you
I will be here don't you cry
For one so small, you seem so strong
My arms will hold you keep you safe and warm
This bond between us cant be broken
I will be here dont you cry
And youll be in my heart
Yes, youll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
Youll be in my heart
No matter what they say
Youll be here in my heart
Always
Why cant they understand the way we feel
They just dont trust what they cant explain
I know were different but deep inside us
Were not that different at all
And youll be in my heart
Yes, youll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
Youll be in my heart
No matter what they say
Youll be here in my heart
Always
Dont listen to them, cause what do they know
We need each other, to have and to hold
Theyll see in time, I know
When destiny calls you, you must be strong
I may not be with you, but you gotta hold on
Theyll see in time, I know
Well show them together 'cause...
Youll be in my heart
I believe, youll be in my heart
Ill be there from this day on
Now and forever more
Youll be in my heart
No matter what they say
Youll be here in my heart always
Always...
Ill be with you
Ill be there for you always
Always and always
Just look over your shoulder
Just look over your shoulder
Just look over your shoulder
I'll be there always.
I still tear up thinking of it....

Our photographer left after that, but the party continued! Our last dance was at 11:45, when we left for home. Guests stayed until about 2 (we heard that after we left, the DJ took more requests and the party raged on! which was awesome - we wanted to make sure our guests had fun!)
I was a virgin bride. Although I had slept over at the house before (on the couch, and when other friends were over!) I had never slept in our room, or in our bed until our wedding night.
2 weeks before the wedding, Greg kicked me out of the bedroom! (I had been moving my clothes and stuff in there, which got a little inconvienient!!) And I didn't know why until our wedding night...
This was our room before...

He painted the wall the bed was on, put up curtains (got curtains MADE!!) and put up two pictures! The first one is a painting of the city skyline in which you can see our reception venue (and it's in the winter too! How perfect!) and the second is a photo of the downtown skyline at night. On one of our first dates we walked to the river valley and gazed at the skyline. And that's where he kissed me :)

Not bad for a boy! He led me into the livingroom first, and had me sit on the couch for a minute while he went into the bedroom for a minute. He came out moments later, blindfolded me, and led me into the bedroom. Those last 4 pictures are what I saw, and the room was completely lit with candles. It was a magical night. It was my first night with my husband, my first night in that room, my first night in our bed. It was amazing :)
I unfortunately don't have ANY of our honeymoon pics online (we got the digital camera AFTER we went to Disneyland, mainly because I took 10 rolls of film in the week we were there!)
That's it girls! That's the end of my wedding day story. Thank you for being so patient with me! This is my 3rd time writing all this, and each time I want to make sure I get in every moment of the day!

I remember what I was going to ask you at supper.. But forgot
This sounds dumb but..
Was your hair colored at your wedding because it seemed alot lighter in color then in your wedding pics.

 No. The most color I've ever put into my hair was in university when I put green streaks in it and then blue streaks at a different point, and a year ago when I put in highlights!
I think part of it was the contrast the photographer used, and also my hair goes through stages where it darkens, usually in winter.
So in short, nope, no dye for me! :) But SO CUTE of you to ask!!!

Cool :) I thought maybe the winter was the culprit. :kimgrill:

:shuffle: Um... This is my first time reading your WDS... because I am a bad friend, pretty much. :hide: I remember my mom telling me about your pictures in the snow years ago! It must have been in the UW days. Erie, you could not be any more beautiful. Of course I love your dress ;). Everything was gorgeous. If there were a gushing smiley I would put it here. :heee:

You're so sweet! And I don't blame you for not seeing it until now! I didn't even know yours existed had it not been for your custom user title! I got married before MLW was even in existance!
Thank you so much for visiting it NOW, and thank you so much for your sweet compliments!! :glomp:

Friday night I showed your story (at least your pictures) to my mom, because she wanted to see pictures from a winter wedding. So I brought her here, and she thought everything looked really great! She loved your flowers, and I think she liked your outdoor pictures the best! When she saw the one with Greg carrying you over his shoulder, she said that Brian has to do that with me  She also made lots of comments on your hair, and how red it was ... so it sounds like she liked your hair too ;)

Another Crazy Canuck Winter Bride! Its good to see your wedding pics again. I definitely like the snow ones the best. How cold was it on your day? We were -27C! I wish I'd had one of those leg-showing-offing photos taken, like yours.

Pam! Hello :)
It was BLISSFULLY warm! It was no colder than -2C for a high! The year prior it was the coldest day of the year, at -35C!! I'm glad it was nice and warm for our day! I couldn't imagine taking outdoor pictures at -27!
