View Full Version : My Proposal Story :)

Hello :)

My name is Anna. I am 25 and I live in Alberta, Canada. My fiance, Paul (22), proposed November 25 2006, so we are quite recently engaged.

On Nov.21.06, in the evening, we were driving back home after a trip to Calgary (I drive a little 2000 Honda Civic, at the time, I had only owned the car for about 6 weeks); I had done about 120 - 130 on the highways, but when we entered the city of Lethbridge, I was doing about 65 in a 70 zone. Right in the middle of the city, we hit a deer. Or rather, the deer appeared in my windshield. It was a very bad wreck, the car was nearly written off, but eventually repaired at around $7,000 damage (the repairs took almost 3 months - yikes!).

So, that was on Nov.21st (Tuesday). Paul and I stayed home from work for the rest of the week, due to our injuries (whiplash, glass cuts requiring stitches, Paul's shoulder was gored by the deer's antler [crazy hey?!] which left a big nasty gash, we both had severe bruising, etc). On the following Saturday, he proposed.

I worked on Saturday because my injuries were not as bad as Paul's, and when I came home from work, I was SORE (my job is very physical, and also on my feet all day). I limped through the door, threw my lunchbag on the counter, dragged my aching body to the bathroom, and started running a bath. Now, the next part of this story may sound sort of ... naughty ... but I assure you, it was all very intimate in a non-sexual way, and so sweet.

Paul came into the bathroom, helped me undress, and rubbed my shoulders. I was really hurting and nearly in tears (I was also dealing with the trauma of my first car accident as a driver, so I was also very emotional/stressed; yes the deer died). He helped me ease into the bathwater, adjusted the temperature, added bubbles. I sat in the water with my head hanging. We were very quiet, not talking about anything really important, just being together. We are good at that.

He took the loofa (you know, those puffy body-scrubbing things?) and washed my back, shoulders, neck - he was very gentle, it was so soothing, and it may have been the nicest, sweetest thing I can remember. This is romance, in my mind; personal and loving things like this, simple and kind.

I started to relax and feel better. We were holding hands on the edge of the tub, and every few moments, we would look up and smile, give sweet little kisses. He finally just looked at me, gripped my hand tenderly, and said, "Anna, will you marry me?"

I was sort of sleepy at this point, my mind was wandering, so I jumped a bit, blinked stupidly at him, tried to process what he meant. I had not been expected the proposal, although we had previously discussed getting married.

"What?" I asked. "Are you serious?" (I don't know what I was thinking.)

"Yes, I'm serious, of course," he sort of chuckled, and that was when I noticed how nervous he was. Silly boy, don't be nervous - you know what my answer will be.

"Oh my ... oh YES! HELL YES!" I started crying, and we hugged, and he teared up, and I kept saying "hell yes" over and over, because I was overwhelmed, and it felt so RIGHT.

So that's the story of my proposal. It was perfect, for me, because it was personal, intimate, sweet, and very REAL. Just like we are. :D

I wanted to give the car accident details so you would see how serious it was, and appreciate how stressed out and hurt we were, and understand that the setting and the moment were just right. After going through something like that together, we had really grown to know one another, appreciate one another, love each other even more.

Thanks for reading my story. How did you like it? :)

Thank you everyone; he is very sweet. He is honestly the kindest person I have ever met in my life - one of the many many reasons why I knew I had to marry him.

Thanks for reading my story. :)

:sappy: thank you VERY much for that FINE detailed story. It was very much needed in order to understand the sincerity of it :)

How long have you been together? did he give you a ring?

We have been together for 6 months now (moving fast, yes) and he did give me a ring. I hate diamonds (well, jewellery in general) so I asked for simple gold band, everyday sort of thing, that I won't be snagging on clothes and people, and won't be AS terrified to lose.

I think he was disappointed at first, because he was planning to save up for a few months and buy me something expensive and impressive. But after we talked about it, he realized what I wanted, and how I feel. I want a modest symbol of our love and committment, not a flashy treasure that I will be afraid/embarrassed to wear. Heheh.

:D Yeah, he is really special. The best person I have ever met. I can't believe he chose ME out of every woman in the world - he could have had anybody. *gush gush*
