Has anyone ever heard of these? I was searching through some of wedding sites and came across them. I never heard of them before and thought it was a neat idea. (I searched the board and didn't find anything so please delete if it's been posted before :))
Well, you simply have your baker attach each charm to a length of ribbon and insert them in between the layers of of your cake with the ribbon extending out beyond the edge of the cake. Then at the reception you have each of your bridesmaids pull out a charm for good luck. Each charm represents a unique positive association.

I really love that idea. I know somebody (I think Stacy) had something similar but it was done at the shower.

I saw them while looking too but have never seen the used at a wedding. I wanted to use them so bad but I am only having a MOH and JrBM. So I don't think they would work for me to use. :(

you could always have your mom and your MIL pull charms too
It is a big tradition down south. It is *supposed* to tell the fortune of the SINGLE girls at the wedding. I had 9 charms bwtween the 2nd and bottom layers of our cake. I will see if I can find a pic of them pulling the charms. The girls loved it. I bought sterling silver charms of pretty decent quality and several of my girls now wear them on a chain.
if you wanted to buy your own charms, you can get them from silvershake.com for a very resonable price, and they are very pretty.

Any idea what each charm predicts? I have always heard of this tradition and like the idea of getting nice charms to do this with but would love to know what they each are supposed to stand for or did you just make things up? Like a $ sign for wealth or a baby bottle for many children??

Yes, I have seen this done at showers for the most part.

Surprises
This old custom is charming indeed: At the bridesmaids' luncheon, each guest pulls one ribbon from the center of a Bundt cake to find a good-luck charm and message dangling from the other end. Charms are available by mail order, often complete with fortunes, ribbons, and bags; we ordered charms but added our own messages, ribbons, and glassine envelopes. Ribbons can be color coded so single, married, and very young women will choose charms -- such as rings or baby carriages -- that are appropriate for their situations. Other popular charms include a coin (for luck), an airplane (for travel), and a telephone (for a special phone call). To assemble, bake your favorite Bundt cake, put the charms in the center, and drape the ribbons over the cake; fresh flowers provide decoration while hiding the charms.

^ ohhh, I like that cake idea...looks simple enough. Yeah I was actually thinking of making a small cake for my bridal shower...whenever I have one, I know the girls would get a kick out of them :)
