Biz told me last night that they want to be married on his birthday, Oct. 27 of 2007. She wants something Italian in feel because he loves the Sopranos/. She thought it might be good to have the BMs wear black dresses. Please show me pictures of what you imagine when I say this. Thanks!

i am going to try and find some more photos but i had a few ideas.
wrought iron candle stands and cake stand
biscotti, gourmet sauces or mini wine bottle favors
bread baskets with a variety of breads and baguettes
for food obviously a pasta bar and possibly an antipasti dish along with honey dew and prosciutto, chicken parmesan
italian sodas are really yummy
coffee and espresso bar
At the end of the wedding day, a glass or vase is often broken. The number of shards of glass signify the number of happy years the couple will remain married.
grape clusters on invites, napkins and cake

Those are great. Kate and I have been looking at lots of orange/purple combinations, too. Think how pretty that would be in this setting.

Mama D, how about wine glass charms as favors? Or those cute cork screws? Or bottle stoppers?

(Can you tell I associate wine with Italian?)

Those are cute, Kari! I found these about Italian weddings:

In the past, many marriages were arranged by the families of the bride and groom. In the spirit of such a union, traditional Italian weddings are lengthy and elaborate feasts that celebrate the coming together of the bride's and groom's families.

Steps:
1. Include in the bride's wedding ensemble a white dress for purity, a veil to guard against the bad luck that could result should the groom see her face before the ceremony, and a satin purse that the bride can carry during the reception (as the bride comes by, guests can fill the purse with money gifts).

2. Plan a mass before the reception if you are having a Catholic wedding. See "How to Plan a Catholic Wedding." *Ah, that won't happen! :) *

3. Arrange to release a pair of white doves into the air following the ceremony to represent your love and happiness.

4. Welcome your guests to the reception with alcoholic beverages with which they can toast the newlywed couple.

5. Arrange a band that can play traditional Italian songs for dancing, since this is an important part of the day - be sure to include the customary dance for the bride and her father.

6. Astound your guests with a traditional multi-course meal, accompanied by wine. The feast begins with the antipasto, which can consist of olives, stuffed mushrooms, cheeses, salami, mortadella, calamari and prosciutto. Follow with a dinner of pasta, chicken, veal, soup, and vegetables. * YUMMY!*

7. Serve other light foods that will bring you good luck. These include twists of fried dough with powdered sugar and Italian wedding candy.

8. Provide your guests with mesh bags, each filled with an odd number of sugar-coated almonds. The guests toss the bags at the newlyweds, a practice said to represent the bitter-sweetness of life.

9. At the end of the day, shatter a vase or glass into many pieces - each piece is said to signify a happy year of marriage.

Rachael Ray got married in Tuscany - perhaps you can pull some elements from her wedding for inspiration. Here's her online wedding album (http://www.rachaelraymag.com/content/20253/).

*Diane*--We are getting married in November and are having an Italian theme wedding. My family is straight off the boat from Italy and we will be catering the entire reception ourselves. We're going for a very intimate "Italian Cafe" kind of feel, and want everyone to feel as if they're just members of our big family. Here are some ideas we've gathered in our planning...I hope this helps for your daughter!! :)

Martini candle favor/placecards--very Sinatra-esque. ;)

And an example of our cake--red velvet. It'll also have red roses on the top

If you need any more ideas or anything, please feel free to let me know. I'd love to help :)
