"Let Them Be Little" by Lonestar. We had a combined Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dance, so we had to keep it gender neutral :lol2:

I think "Then They Do" by Trace Adkins would be a great Father/Daughter dance song.

My Father and I chose "Changes" by Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne. He doesn't like country, so we compromised.

I think it will be either of these two Elvis songs, since my dad is a HUGE Elvis fan:

It's Impossible

or

The Wonder of You

My dad can not decide but, he thinks we are going to use that song or butterfly kisses. Or there is one more song he likes. So who knows what it will be!

We danced to Blue eyes crying in the rain by Elvis. I grew up singing the willie nelson version while my dad played the guitar. I heard the elvis version and decided to use it for some strange reason. It was funny though when the song started me and my dad had no idea what it was. The looks on our face on the video are priceless.

Can't resist posting the lyrics...LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hehe:

I Loved Her First

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

I am actually doing up a cd for my dad to listen to and pick out which song he likes. I would really like "isn't she lovely" by Stevie Wonder. I want something with a beat. Slow dancing I don't like to do. lol

I can pretty much garuntee this hasn't been mentioned.

Jasey Schnaars - Dancin' with Daddy

Jasey is local boy, his CDs are only available in one store that I know of in Deleware, Ohio. But well, that tune would make an incredible F/D dance.

Mel, thank you for posting the lyrics to that song. Absolutely beautiful...it brought tears to my eyes. I'm off to try and find some place to listen to it, but I think my search for the perfect song may be over. :)

This is one of the things that I regretted about my first wedding. I didn't get to dance with my father. I'm correcting that this time around.

Haven't decided yet but thinking about "Because you loved me" by Celine Dion. Would apply to Mother/Son too if we do both at the same time.

My daughters have already picked their songs for when they get married.

"Butterfly Kisses" - Shenandoah version (oldest daughter)

"I'll Always Be Your Baby" - Natalie Grant (youngest daughter)
(this one even made me cry)

Here's the lyrics:

You were my first love, always there for me
You taught me how to walk and how to dream
God gave me your eyes
But it was you who taught me how to see
Now I can stand on my own
But I know that you'll never let go

I'll always be your baby
No matter how the years fly by
The way you love me made me
Who I am in this world
I'm a woman now, not a little girl
Wherever this life takes me
I'll always be your baby

You are my hero and that will never change
You still can dry my tears with just a smile
The one I've leaned on
From my first steps to walking down the aisle
Now there's another man in my life
But I know by the look in your eyes

I'll always be your baby
No matter how the years fly by
The way you love me made me
Who I am in this world
I'm a woman now, Not a little girl
Wherever this life takes me
I'll always be your baby

Your faith, your love
And all that you believe
Have come to be the strongest part of me
And I will always be your baby

My sister played that on her flute at her high school graduation in 2001.

I won't be able to have a father/daughter dance, and if I decide to dance with my mom, or even FFIL (because he's already like a dad to me), I have no clue what song to use.

Thanks! You should go for it! :) What songs do you have in mind?? I am liking a few Billy Joel songs too...he used to sing Billy Joel to me when I was little...Uptown Girl was one of them...I am not sure though about how it would be for a father/daughter dance song...but I guess the DJ could explain the song choice...

for my first marriage, my dad and i danced to butterfly kisses by bob carslile. i cried during the third verse. but because we danced to that one at my wedding to my ex, i'm not going to use it for this one coming up in 2009.

do you girls have any suggestions for second marriages father/daughter dances??

lizaanne

do you girls have any suggestions for second marriages father/daughter dances??

Yep - I didn't do one. :)

This wedding was about me and my husband. We didn't have dancing or entertainment for our guests after the luncheon, just some nice dinner music playing throughout the meal. After we cut the cake, we went over to the center of the dining room and danced alone to a song I had chosen (DH could not make up his mind, so I chose the song). We did not have any other dancing, and I thought it was just perfect for us.

I'm a grown up now, not 24 and stupid like I was at my ex-wedding, and so it just didn't feel right to have a daddy-daughter dance. And I don't think he missed it a bit. He had that opportunity many years ago, and I think that was fine for us. He did walk me down the aisle, and this time he cried. He really does love my DH, and this was so meaningful for him. But the dance, we didn't need to do that again.

But everyone does things differently - not saying this the choice for everyone.

We did our father/daughter dance and our mother son dance at the same time, and we danced to "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. It was AMAZING!! :) And my daddy cried, and I cried :) It was perfect because it wasn't specifically a father-daughter dance, but the message was awesome

"You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be. "

I guess I will bring this dead thread back to life!

My dad and I both really want to dance to "Little Miss Magic" by Jimmy Buffett since he used to sing that to me when I was little. However, if we end up having a band instead of a DJ, I am not sure they would be able to pull that song off.

My dad changed his mind today. we are going from "I loved her first" by Heartland to "My little girl" by Tim McGraw.

I love "I loved her first," but I know I will bawl my eyes out if we played that one. Plus "My little girl" is more fitting bc it is from Flika and we both love horses.

I thought about that too! Great minds think alike. Ha, ha. However, the words have a lot of meaning. I'll find the lyrics and post them:

Little Miss Magic:

Constantly amazed by the blades of the fan on the ceiling
The clever little glances she gives me cant help but be appealing
She loves to ride into town with the top down
Feel that warm breeze on her gentle skin
She is my next of kin

Chorus:
I see a little more of me everyday
I catch a little more moustache turning gray
Your mother is the only other woman for me
Little miss magic, what you gonna be?

Sometimes I catch her dreamin and wonder where that little mind meanders
Is she strollin along the shore or cruisin oer the broad savannah
I know someday shell learn to make up her own rhymes
Someday shes gonna learn how to fly
Oh that I wont deny

Chorus:
I catch a little more dialogue comin my way
I see those big brown eyes just start to lookin astray
Your mothers still the only other woman for me
Little miss magic, what you gonna be?

Yes she loves to ride into town with the top down
Feel that warm breeze on her gentle skin
She is my next of kin

Constantly amazed by the blades of the fan on the ceiling
Those clever little looks she gives just cant help but be appealing
I know someday shell learn to make up her own rhymes
One day shes gonna learn how to fly
That I wont deny

Chorus:
I see a little more of me everyday
I feel a little more moustache turning gray
Your mothers still the only other woman for me
Little miss magic, what you gonna be?
Little miss magic, what you gonna be?
Little miss magic, just cant wait to see

Its raining, its pouring
Your old man is snoring . . .

It is a really nice song, and since my dad used to sing it to me, I feel like we should keep the words in? Maybe we could just dance that ONE dance to a CD?

Winter_Bride
01-04-2007, 11:13 PM
ALL of our music was CDs... :shrug2: Honestly, I think if the song has that much meaning to you, and the band won't be able to capture the same magic, you should totally use the CD. People will notice, and might wonder why you're using a CD, but if you have an explination somewhere, they'll understand!

That being said, let them wonder! It's your day! ;) I love those lyrics though!!

So the disc that I gave my dad a little while back. He listened to it and had picked two out of the 6 that he liked.

His two were
"Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon
"You'll Always Be My Baby" by Natlie Grant.

At first it was the Natalie Grant song then he listened to the words and really likes the Paul Simon song. So as of right now its the Paul Simon song. It might chnage again but it might not.
