Military Day Celebration Added To Illinois' Football Opener
Illini to honor American heroes Sept. 2
There will be plenty of fireworks on the night of Sept. 2 as part of the Military Day festivities in association with Illinois' season opener against Eastern Illinois.
July 6, 2006
The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will honor members of the military from the state of Illinois that have served since 9/11 at their 2006 football season opener. The Military Day event is specifically intended to recognize those who have answered the call to duty, risking their lives on behalf of the United States of America.
Military members from the state of Illinois that have served since 9/11 will be offered two (2) free tickets to the Sept. 2 game against Eastern Illinois. Tickets must be claimed through a form the soldiers mail to the Athletic Ticket Office. Families of soldiers who are still serving or whose soldier was lost in active duty will be offered two (2) tickets in the name of their loved one.
Officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army Reserves and National Guard are helping the DIA spread the word to the soldiers. Military members are receiving information that directs them to an order form they can use to acquire their tickets. The form must be returned by Aug. 1.
"The officers we've communicated with seem elated that the DIA is extending this offer to our American heroes," said Chris Hanna, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sales and Marketing. "We expect a terrific turnout based on this feedback. We look forward to thanking our heroes for their service to our great nation."
A moment of silence is planned near kickoff to honor both those who have been lost in the conflict and the sacrifice of those who have either returned home or continue to serve. The Marching Illini has planned a patriotic halftime performance.
If you are an Illinois resident that served in the military Illinois since 9/11 and you have not received information about this offer, then please contact the public relations office of your military branch. Your public relations office can either provide you with the proper form or contact the University of Illinois sports marketing office on your behalf at (217) 244-0016 (which will also assist other soldiers from your unit and/or branch).
As previously announced by the DIA, the Sept. 2 game against Eastern Illinois will be a night game. A 6 p.m. kickoff is planned with post-game fireworks.

Officials at Anheuser-Busch have extended their offer of free theme park admission for active-duty servicemembers through 2006, allowing troops and up to three family members a free day of rest and roller coasters.
The offer is good at all of the company’s theme parks, which include SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place. The company has eight parks in five states.
Any active-duty servicemember, reservist or guardsman is entitled to free admission under the program. Families of troops serving overseas also are eligible to visit the parks in the military personnel’s absence.
Civilian defense workers are not eligible for the free tickets. To claim the tickets, recipients must supply a valid service ID or military dependent ID.
Anheuser-Busch officials said more than 900,000 troops and family members took part in the program in 2005.

Wow, that free dress deal is amazing.
I'll have to find some. But, I cna give the advice to just ask every vendor if they offer a discount.
Also, getting married on a base, from my experience, has been a lot cheaper vs. going off base.
