Hi everyone!

I'm a plus size bride and wanted to start a thread where others can come in, post gowns available in plus sizes or show off pics of yourselves in beautiful plus size gowns! Welcome!

Hi, great thread to start. I'm a plus size. Working on losing weight before the wedding but I'll still be plus size, just not as plus :)

How did everyone find dress shopping? I have not even tried it yet and I'm kind of worried. Any tips?

Well, I go gown shopping Aug.12th. I'm nervous because the store I am going to is one of the biggest on the east coast. So I know if I don't find something there, that I probably won't elsewhere either. I'm a larger plus size gal, too, but I was at this shop last July and the staff are wonderful and they carry gowns up to size 32. If I don't find something I like there, I am going to order one online that I like.
My tips: wear your shapewear to the shop for try ons if you plan on wearing it the day of the wedding. You might get a better fit that way. O, and take an honest friend, not someone who'll just tell you that you look great even when you don't.

Just popping in for now, but I'll be back tomorrow to share pics and such. I got my dress from David's - they have some beautiful plus-size gowns. :) I knew it was the dress for me when I saw it in an ad, so I didn't have to go through the embarassment of not having sample dresses in my size at other stores - I went to a couple just for shits and giggles and was quite depressed that I couldn't even try their dresses on.

I wasn't a plus sized bride, but one of my friends was, and she HATED the fact that a lot of the dresses out there were made for size 6, and then just "enlarged" for the larger sizes. We found a little store in town that carried lines of plus sizes (I can't remember any names, sorry) that were created for and designed for bodies that were 16-32 - better support for boobies, shape-creaters, etc.

Great thread! I'm a plus-sized bride and found the dress shopping experience to be a bit frustrating namely because of the reasons already stated--the number of plus-sized gowns available for trying on were minimal. I just can't get a good idea of what a gown is going to look like if they're squeezing me into a dress four sizes too small. I did find one bridal shop that catered to plus-sized brides. Unfortunately, they closed just a month ago.

I did find my gown--a Maggie Sottero--at one of Portland's oldest bridal shops. The gown I tried on was a couple sizes too small, in the hips, but perfect on my torso (which was what I cared most about). I purchased the dress in November. One thing I did find was that you'd be surprised what sizes you fit into and how it varies between manufacturers. Also, I've found that trying dresses on with a corset or lace-up back are more convenient, and forgiveable of plus-sized brides.

So true! I'm 6' tall, so even when I was thin, I was a sz 10-12... I'm addicted to thrift stores, and I have a particular weakness for really awful 80's prom dresses (which tend to come in sizes teeny-medium, at least the ones that show up in the thrift stores around here). I cannot tell you how many I was able to fit into by adding some grommets in the back & lacing the bodice up rather than zipping it! ^_^

I know that I'm gunna have a heck of a time actually being able to try on dresses at the store, becuase i will prolly be like a size 20 or 22, because im an 18 in regular street clothes (as we stand today, but activeyly trying, and being unsuccessful, losing weight)

I get to be the first plus sized bride to put up pics of my dress! :jump4joy:

I was going to have my dress made to avoid the scariness of trying on dresses at bridal stores but that didn't work out (see my journal ;) ) so I went to Alfred Angelo with my friend/BM and they carried a bunch of plus sized dresses. My saleslady was even plus sized so that made me feel even more comfortable.

I tried on 2 that were pretty bad. I'll try to put up pics of them tonight at home, but here's my dress.

BTW - I was trying on 22's and they were fitting but this one is a size 24.

Yeah, the model sort of has that "slouchy, trying to look sexy" look that probably looks better from the side than front on!

I LOVE that dress on you! Is it the one you went with?

Kat NDa Sand-

You look GREAT!
Are the AA gowns generously cut? Just asking b/c I am in love with one online. Also, what kind of undergarments did you/ will you be wearing with your gown?

You're gonna make your man cry when he sees you cuz you'll be just stunning!

Thank you guys... you're sweet :hug99: This is the dress that I bought. I love it and didn't want to take it off... what's funny is that in the bag my BM and I didn't like it.

I'm wearing a strapless bra from Goddess (that bra is awesome) and just some regular undies  I was thinking of getting the shorts that hold you in, but I don't think they'd serve any purpose except to make me super hot!

Which one are you looking at miss sparky... maybe I tried it on.

I was thinking a corset dress may be the way to go.

Kat, that dress is BEAUTIFUL on you! Why do they do slouchy model photos? I hate them. Drives me crazy in the bridal magazines. Please post the other pictures you have. I'm considering an Alfred Angelo dress and maybe it is one you tried.

I didn't even like this dress on the skinny model, but I tried it because of the illusion train.

I'm sorry, but you CAN'T post a perfectly good bridezilla shot AND a candid boobie shot and expect no laughing at those!! I am NOT laughing at any other pics, but I DO agree that your dress is far superior to those other 2 (although the second one didn't look as bad on you as you seem to think it did! Really!)

The dress I love is from thier "dream in color" collection #1797, I played with the thing on thier website for color... and used Cobalt as the trim color.

Where can I get a Goddess strapless bra? I know that is a good brand...

Also, the dress you picked suits you best. The others... they were just practice!

-->Kat<--
07-19-2006, 10:02 AM
I think you can get Goddess bra's online... I got mine at this wonderful shop in San Diego. If I remember right, it was only $48 and it supports me better than my regular bra. :D

Lacie, thank you for posting pictures of your dress! It's very beautiful, giving you a soft, but stunning, glow in every photo. We'd love to hear more about your dress-shopping adventures. Was that the type of dress you thought you wanted? What made you decide?

Kat, perhaps I'm crazy, but I think you looked beautiful in all the dresses you tried on. Although, I'm favorable to the one you actually purchased (it looks just perfect for you), I say you're absolutely beautiful to begin with--you make the dress not the other way around. :) Thank you for sharing your photos!

Does anyone wish that the world was more forgiving of a plus-sized bride? I'm just appalled at the concept of a "beautiful" bride being a size 8 or smaller. If you're beautiful within, it's going to shine outwardly on your wedding day regardless of your shape and size.

-->Kat<--
07-19-2006, 12:04 PM
AMEN to that :D

And thank you for the compliments... for some reason I think the dress I chose gives me an hour glass figure where the other two kind of showed the places on my body that I don't like.

I can't wait to put my dress on again :D

I don't really have any adventures to speak of. :dunno: I saw this dress in a magazine before we were even engaged, said it was the one I wanted, and got it. I walked into David's on a Saturday (with an appointment), found it on the rack, put it on, gushed over it, and bought it. :)

I did go to a few other shops before I could make it to David's (the closest one was 2 hours away at the time) and didn't have much luck finding samples in my size, but I didn't get too worked up about it. I always knew that the David's dress was the one. :)

You are in NC!! They have a great store, more like a wedding dress warehouse called Bridal Mart in Burlington! If I did not have found anything in Atlanta, that was on my list to visit, and they do carry plus size!!! I have heard nothing but good things about them, from the salon I ordered my dress from, they refer ladies there who are looking for designers that they do not carry.

Here is the dress tho, no pics of me in it.

Jade - Your gown is very pretty! Try not to emphasize your size so much as your overall feel and health. Size is a number, a little tag that makes us all feel guilty at times. Bleh. Just keep in mind that no matter what the number reads, you'll be a beautiful blushing bride!

You do look great in BOTH before and after shots! I wish you continued success in your weight loss goals!

JRbecca- the website (aa) says the gown has beading & embroidery. And yeah it reminds me of my nanna's "blue willow" china b/c of the colors. That was not something I planned but it doesn't bother me either. The blue is a bright & striking contrast against the white... I like that too.

I, too, love the blue and white contrast! I think it makes a very dramatic and elegant statement. I'm glad you're not bothered by china-esque pattern. I think that's what makes the dress particularly appealing. Beautiful china are truly works of art, as is that dress. Hmm...I wonder what jewlery you'd wear with it? Wow...you could have a lot of fun and design the whole wedding around that dress! :)

I think A-line, corset-back dresses are more forgiving for us plus size gals. My sister is a damn 4 in wedding dresses, so I was worried about being in a size 22 compared to her. But the dresses I tried on made me feel beautiful and no one could tell me otherwise :)

My FMIL is making the fg's dress, 3 BM dresses and then mine, so I've got a good period of time to lose the weight before it will affect the dress size.

CarolingLady67: Thanks for the compliment. Like all the ladies here, it was really daunting to have to find a size 20 -22 in wedding wear! Honestly, I was really starting to get upset by it. But then I thought, "FH has already seen the goods he's getting. If he didn't mind before, he's not going to care now." :giggle: Also, my bridesmaid Lauren used to work in a bridal salon. She cinched the corset in such a way that it gave me the hourglass figure you see. Although, the 1st time she did it... I literally couldn't breath. I had to have her re-do it.

The red version of this was really pretty. However, they had this one instock and it fit and had to have no alterations except the bustle. Also, they cut the price down $250 if I bought it right then and there. I couldn't pass up the discount.

Sorry to hear that Mrs.Sparky... maybe a halter style would work better? I know I dont' usually go for that style but I've seen alot of plus sized women that it looks good on. Was the dress a total wreck or could you alter it to make it work for you?

The Alfred Angelo that I went to here in San Diego was great and they had lots of plus sized dresses... but the one in Lakewood was just terrible, the people working there were rude and suggested that my sister get a breast reduction... so it really depends on the staff... don't count a company out from one experience... and better luck next time :D

It looked hideous on me, and I mean I am not *cute* in any way shape or form in a strapless gown at all. I looked so broad and such that my mom called me a linebacker. Yeah, I tried and now know that its not a contendor for the "gown of my dreams"... but I've not given up hope, I have a gown appointment August 12th...and hopefully that shop (which has more for plus size brides ) will magically have my dream dress!

Miss_Sparky: My mom calls me a "football player" because of my broad shoulders. And while I know our mother's mean well, I'm starting to get annoyed w/ her "we have to make sure the veil covers your shoulders and you have to wear it all night." :sigh:

Thanks everyone!

I've tried halter gowns on and they don't do anything for me either. Sleeves it is. LOL. Not that I mind at all, I favored them all along. Nah, the AA gown was a complete wash, the only improvement would have been to burn the thing b/c no alteration would have made me ravishingly romantic and sexy. Thats okay...that is why there are many different gowns for different body styles/sizes.
Although I have to give up on my "color" gown, there are many more out there in white that I can go for.

O, and as for mom sayin' "I'm a linebacker", I do understand what she was saying but it could have been worded nicer. AND SmilingHoney- you take that veil off if you want to. Don't let mom intimidate you into keeping it on and forcing you to cover up if that is not what you want.

Nikki, you are getting married in my dream dress. I couldn't find it anywhere!

Kiki I actually just ordered it from a shop. I went online to the sincerity site and found out who carried this line close to where I live and I found a place. I picked up the phone and ordered it. I never tried it on before, saw it in person. Nothing like that. I think I made great choice for the way I went about getting it.

I know, missSparky, but you know Moms :) They mean well, but... it just doesn't always come out the best now does it? I'm sorry about the AA dress, but I know you'll find something out there that you'll fall completely in love with. And you can add your "color" elsewhere. Like the jewelry, your shoes, or even dye your pettycoat. Someone on these boards is doing that. I can't remember her name though.

Kat, was that the one on Clairemont Mesa Blvd?

-->Kat<--
07-25-2006, 12:34 PM

Why?

Deidre98
07-25-2006, 12:37 PM
I was just curious if it was the store off of Clairemont Mesa. If it is, then they must've changed their staff because last year, I got my BM dress from there and I had the worst service ever!! So, if their service is better now, I will be completely happy.

-->Kat<--
07-25-2006, 12:41 PM
The saleslady I had was nice and helpful and I didn't have an appointment... a coworker of mine also got her dress from there and she said they were great, but like I said, the one in Lakewood had very rude and inappropriate staff.

Guess it's just hit-n-miss with them... but if you want me to come with you to take care of the rude ones... :ohreally: I'm there :D

Deidre98
07-25-2006, 12:45 PM
WOO HOOO!!!! I like that idea!!! We didn't have an appointment either and got ignored until they realized we wanted to order our dresses that day. It's amazing what money does with salespeople!

-->Kat<--
07-25-2006, 12:54 PM
At the one in Lakewood they were still rude to us even after we told them we were looking for BM's dresses... maybe they thought we were just window shopping but still they had no right to say what they said to my sister!

It worked out for the best though cause we ended up getting their dresses for less money and didn't have to deal with the rudeness.

Seriously... I'd love to go with you... as long as you realize that I'll tell you exactly how the dress looks on you in my opinion... I hate it when people just go with the flow so that they don't cause any ripples.

I mean with something so important, honesty is the best policy.

The gowns that you ladies are posted look really nice.

From reading I guess I would beable to post in here as well. I don't think of myself as a plus size gal. But the size of me gown is. Its the desinger is what I have been told. And I also had to order a big size because Nikkis' got hips. lol

Here it is on the model.

Here it is on me.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/notoriousnikki69/WeddingGownwithmeInit.jpg

I am normally a large in street clothing, have tried on 18s when gown shopping but this gown had to be a 24. It kind of hits you hard when you hear the gown size. I do have to get alterations done to it. The bust area needs to be taken in. There are not pins holding it back in the picture with me in it. I am trying to hold it back with my upper arms.

What is it with dress makers that they put their dresses on size negative zero models??? Do they honestly think that the majority of their customers are that size? She doesn't even look normal, though I suspect that is the camera angle. I'm not saying they should always use plus size either, but AVERAGE size would be nice once in awhile!!!!

Ok - enough venting.

That is a beautiful dress, Nikkiscott!

WOW I am not the only one whos mommy called them a linebacker. Mum calls me her baby linebacker.

MS Sparky, I know how you feel, I had to try on over 80 gowns before I found mine. I ordered 2 others by Demetrios, and they did not fit as well as the Bonny. I got my money back for them on Ebay. I found my dress as a salon that does nothing BUT plus sizes in Atlanta where I live. You will have much better luck when you can go to a place to try on more than one dress. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Here is a pic of me in the dress with sleeves with one of the stores veils. I am 6ft2 and normally a street size 20-22 in normal clothing, I ended up with a size 30 dress with extra length. I do not care about the size # I care about the FIT, and how it looks. Please excuse the look on my face I had pulled a 24hr shift the night before, and worked ALL night. I know that the dress looks a lot better with the full Aline crinoline. I had to try the dress on w/out it to check for length first. The dresses with short sleeves, strapless, halters looked horrible on me. I won't even go into my humiliating experience at DB when I was dress hunting.

Its the same material as the sleeves with small bugle beads and other beading at the neckline. The sleeves need to be a bit more tailored so I do not drag them through my supper or anything else (((Grin))). Here is the pic of the dress with the model to get a better idea. Does anyone wish that the world was more forgiving of a plus-sized bride? I'm just appalled at the concept of a "beautiful" bride being a size 8 or smaller. If you're beautiful within, it's going to shine outwardly on your wedding day regardless of your shape and size.

Yes, I do wish the above! I worry all the time about how I'm going to look not just on my wedding day, but every day. Its so frustrating to find only clothes, bras, lingerie, etc., in S - XL. I even get frustrated when they only go to a 3X, as sometimes, that won't work for me either.

I think my next (uh, first) business venture will be opening a bridal salon catering solely to plus-sized brides, bridesmaids, and mothers. Afterall, plus-sized women deserve the same attention and pampering as anyone else and perhaps more since it seems that the bridal industry tends to make us an afterthought. Who wants to be my business partner? :giggle:

"Forgiving" of plus size brides? "Forgive"... how bout they forgive my fat A$$! I'm not sorry that I am plus size, if we were all a size zero the world would be dull and boring. Women come in all shapes and sizes. We should not be hidden in a back corner of a store or force to try on but three dresses available to us "linebackers". Puh-leez. I eat doughnuts (not often), I eat hamburgers, I eat! My metabolism is the pits...so I'm plus size. The opposite end of the size chart has problems too. Just ask a few thin chicks what they might want- more boobs, hips...curves in general? They'll say they are no where near perfect as well, and at any size there is something we will scrutinize our bodies over and find flaws. I'm in my skin, my plus size skin...and regardless of size I'm sure nearly anyone can stand to be healthier. Healthier does not equate to thinner, it is a matter of making better choices.
So I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that they'll forgive my plus sized hide, no no... rather I wish they'd wake up and realize that most of us are not a size 00.

They do have some salons that do nothing but Plus size. I got lucky and found one near where I live. My aunt was livid when I did not purchase my dress from her salon, and I gave up getting a dress at her cost, for the experience of trying on multiple ones in my size.

NO one has to be forgiving for my body shape or build, god made us, therefore, there is NOTHING wrong with us. All I want are items that fit including bridal attire.I had to have my veil made to accomodate my height, since my fingertip length is a lot longer than the average ladies, and the store samples came up WAYYY too short.

There's nothing wrong with being plus size. I don't think that was what the OP meant. I think that as a whole, the fashion industry overlooks anyone that is over a size 12. Not that there aren't clothes out there for us plus sized gals...but a lot of them are matronly, and not as trendy or as cutting edge as those who say are a size 8.

-->Kat<--

You know what I do if I get any looks or rudeness when I ask for size 14 or 16? I tell the salesperson "You know, Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 when she was a star!" That usually shuts them up. Just goes to show how demented the fashion industry is. We go from a beautiful size 14 star who set the world on fire to someone like Cher who gets ribs removed so she can be skinnier still. Ick!

Hey everyone. I consider myself to be plus size (10-12). I am 5' 2 and weigh about 140-150 (on a good day, lol). My issue is my breasts, my thighs, hips and booty. My waist is about 30 inches but I am a 36 DD (an E while I breastfeed) and I won't even tell you hip measurements. I have a big booty and I mean a big bubble booty. I have a hard time finding anything that fits all over. I don't wear dresses at all and dreaded finding a wedding gown. I tried on lots of them.

I learned long ago nobody is going to cater to me. So I keep a seamstress handy, lol. I always have to have length shortened. I have to get the waist taken in. Most plus size clothing is made to fit women who are over 5'6.

I love www.hipsandcurves.com. They have great service and they use plus size models. I can not stand to look at a size 2 model wearing something abd trying to imagine what it will look like on me. It is businesses like these that we need to support. I refuse to buy things from places that offer plus sizes but only use skinny minny models. I want to see it on someone with some curves.

Paula,

I completely lost it when the other site went down. You and I had had an awesome discussion about lingerie, and where to find things. I was sooo bummed, because I thought... OH, I'll look at those websites later and then the site went down. I knew the one I had to find was ianardo.com. I couldn't remember the name, but I knew he did artwork of plus sized women. That's how I found it. It took me a while!

Now, I bookmark as I go. Live and learn, huh?

Yeah tell me about live and learn. I'm so pissed at myself b/c when the other place went down i was "meaning to" get to copy/pasting my planning journal... and didn't get to do that before the place took a crashing nose dive. I'll never get it back and I feel kinda lazy about starting another one, it would not be the same. Does that make sense?

O, i know how you feel about plus size lingerie...many of the sites I've seen just offer the same crap on the same *skinny* plus size models...that just gets annoying when you are looking for something unique, romantic and feminine. Half the crap is just a larger size, not really designed for a plus size body, so most of it looks like it would be rather unflattering! Eh, the prices are rediculous too..we all know this stuff does not stay on all that long! I dunno, maybe I'm too cheap for my own good, but some of it does not seem worth it.

Maybe i'll just show up on the honeymoon night in a big blue bow!.... LOL

Ok, the dress is white, long sleeves that have embellishments (beads & pearls) all over the sleeves- sheer illusion material for them.

Basque waist, beading & pearls all over the bodice. Keyhole back. Cathedral train with a open lace panel. sweetheart/ v neck neckline. I believe its satin(kinda shiny.)

Poufy skirt...like ball gown, also satin. The skirt has lace around the bottom edge about 4 inches high...and you can see the crinoline through it.

It is very very similar to this gown

it is Jacquelin #9116.
Called jacquelin exclusives b/c its not listed on the website and they said I have to call the store for pictures b/c if I'm not a retailer I cannot see all of the dresses that they carry. The CS rep was not nice on the phone. WTF. So I'll have to make another trip up to the shop if I want a picture for on here.

I had the problem with dress #1. It was a Mori Lee v-halter, with lavender trim around the bottom, the waist and the halter and the trim around the back was lavender. Everywhere that was lavender had beadwork. I never found it on any website, including ML, Knot, and Wed.Chan.

The bridal shop wouldn't allow pictures, so my cousin snuck in with her camera phone and took 2. But then the lady was such a witch to me when I ordered, I cancelled it 2 hours later.

I want my first dress. :(

Awww cindy I'm sorry that happened to you! Whats up with nasty ladies at the shops? I'll never understand that cuz you get more with honey than you do with shit. The CS rep was a witch to me and i think maybe she just had not finished her first cup of joe on a monday morning...:laugh3:

My shop was the same way about pictures. Could not take pics of gowns unless you put a down payment on it or bought it. We paid for mine in full that day, but I was too emotional to remember to take pics. Yes, i was wearing my asshat that day! :asshat:

The shop is far from my house... about an hour. From my mom's is a quick zip up one town over from her, so i'd say about 15/20 minutes.

To answer an earlier question:

I had been to a total of 5 bridal shops over the last year, so all in all I've tried on over 30 gowns. However, at bridals by sandra...I tried on five and the wedding gown I loved was #4. I only tried on #5 because it had a longer train, but the train was mostly satin and made me look like I was dragging around a bedsheet. I put #4 back on and didn't want to take it off.:heee:

Question for ya'll- Did you have a hard time finding a comfortable bra to wear underneath?

The one they had me in at the shop was a lacy Goddess strapless longline bra and it was not comfy at all. I wanted to take it off as soon as I could, it kept pinching at me right under my boobs and digging into my skin there. Ouchies! I made sure that I knew who made that one because I didn't want to end up buying it online or elsewhere.

Cindy

I haven't even started looking yet.

-->Kat<--

I had a terrible time finding a bra until I went to this place here in San Diego called Enchantress, where I bought my goddess bra. Maybe it just wasn't the right size or just not the right goddess bra for you, but goddess does make the best bra's I've been able to find.

Paula- I have had trouble with the bras they give you at the bridal stores because they aren't the right size. I always tell them my size and once a lddy brought me a C cup, I over fill a DD and I had to squish them puppies into a C because I refused to go bra-less and I tried with the bra I was wearing and it didn't work anybetter than the C in the gown

Poloke
08-16-2006, 11:05 PM
Thats what happened to me, the woman brought me a C cup and I'm a full DD as well. Of course she didn't tell me that. When they unleashed me from those constraints, I checked the tag and said to mom "no wonder" it was a damn C cup. Now I don't know about ya'll but a C is not going to support a friggin DD chest! My boobs were doing the "i'll double over on myself thing. I'm sure I was a masterpiece to be seen.

I get annoyed when they say "we have your size" and then rather than telling you that they don't they just stuff you into something completely random and too small.

Kayleen, I think my favorite is #4. Very beautiful dress and flattering on you.

QOD: Besides the trying on dresses my biggest fear is also the pictures. I may feel beautiful that day but I'm worried about the pictures. There have been many times we have gone somewhere and I thought I looked good. But then I see a picture from that day and have to wonder how on earth I left the house thinking I looked good. I just really don't want that feeling with my wedding pictures.

Oh man, I don't envy the choice you must make now, you look fantastic in ALL of these! I thought I'd give my input too:

*this one is so perfect for you! no one will be looking at your arms when you are looking so awesome in the dress, so don't worry about going sleeveless!*
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/Kayleenmt/bf0550ea.jpg

*you look great in this one also, but it's rather shapeless compared to the first*
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/Kayleenmt/7bc9dbd8.jpg

*I don't think this neckline works unless you want to wear the jacket the entire time*
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/Kayleenmt/d80769b6.jpg

*this is another good one, not as much shape as the first, but looks better than a halter IMO*
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/Kayleenmt/halter1-1.jpg

*again, I don't feel as though this neckline works, something about the way it sits under the arms makes it look funny*

How did everyone find dress shopping? I have not even tried it yet and I'm kind of worried. Any tips?

im on the bubble of plus size and normal size. my advice, dont be afraid to try on a dress that is smaller (not too much smaller though) to get an idea about what it would like in your size. yes its not going to look absolutely fabulous but it will give you an idea what it will look like with your skin complexion and what not.

OMG! The first dress looks PHENOMINAL on you! The other 3 don't even compare! It gives you the PERFECT hourglass shape. :D

I agree!! That first dress elongates your body, making you look lean! AND gives you an awesome hourglass shape! I love it! :)

Thanks everybody!!

I really liked the first one too ... I thought the "drop waist" was more slimming on me than some of the others

I like that one! I like the smooth front better though , ya know what I'm talking about? but I like the sleeves
The Capri Lynette is the dress I had replicated. I didn't think I liked the gathering at the waist like that until I tried it on, but it is *very* flattering. It actually makes it look like I have a waist! You might want to at least try on a style like that before dismissing it. I didn't even like the dress before I tried it on -- it was like a completely different dress once I was in it. It has the dropped waist just like the one you tried on in the first picture.

Here (http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b44/purple_octopus/MyDressFront.jpg) is a pic of my dress, in case you wanted to know what it looks like in not-a-size-8. (I had it made in a different color for $222, custom made to my measurements. It fits like a glove, I don't need alterations, and now I can spend that extra money on booze. :p) The people who made mine do custom work, so they could even make the first dress you tried on and add sleeves or straps. I am very happy with the workmanship on my dress. (Sorry I don't have any pictures of me in it yet. I need to get someone to take those when FH is not around.)

I emailed them and they said they'd make the "davids dress" with some type of sleeve , for $250 ... I just dont know what kind of sleeve I'd want , and its hard to explain that to someone over email without having a picture to refer to , ya know?

What you might want to do is find a picture of a dress with a bodice that you like. (In other words, don't just look at the sleeves, look at the whole top of the dress.) They can put just about any bodice on any type of skirt. For example, my sister tried on two Reem Acra dresses that she loved, and she is having JB put the bodice from on on the skirt/train of the other. She is paying a lot more for her dress, but it is HEAVILY beaded.

This is my Mom on the right...in the dress I have ordered! It was like a size 8 so it was hard to get a good look on me and the pictures of me in it are horrible!

The dress on the left was the second choice...loved the ribbon accent along the top! Here is a picture of the back of the dress...of course a much smaller size than I am.

:agreesign: This is it for me too. I hear so much (even on here) how important pictures are. I want to be able to look at the our pictures and see that I was a beautiful bride and not to see those pictures and berate myself for being a a 'wide bride'. Plus, those pictures will be displayed in the FILs homes. I want flattering pictures for sure!

Had to post my favorite picture from dress shopping! It was at this really flu-flu place and we were not supposed to take pictures but my Mom snagged just one :kimgrill: The dress had a super long train and I would never be able to wear it but if only I had a very large church...I might have been tempted!

Kayleen, I LOVED #1! But I also like the one with the lace overcoat, as it is my dress. :)

What did you think of this dress on? It is one of the dresses I'm considering getting.

If that is the AA dress- its gorgeous in person! I tried it on last month in my hunt for a gown.

Yes, I think it is the AA dress. Lela tried the dress on and had picture of her in it but she is not plus size and was wondering how it would look. It seems from the above pictures to be very flattering. I had talked myself out of it because I didn't think it would look very good, but now I may have to reconsider. At least go and try it on for myself.

I need to get over my fear of trying on dresses and go do it!
