Do you have to write your own vows?
I am never good at writing my own personal things, because I can never express myself on paper very well. That's why I ask this question. On my Knot account, it says that we should start writing and finalizing our vows this month.

I don't plan on writing my own. I may tweak the traditional vows I am using but I won't be writing it on my own.

No we did not write our own. Though because he totally screwed them up, we made them our own!

I'd like to write my own, but if I say anything more than the traditional vows, I'm gonna start bawling like a big baby. We'll see, if FI wants to do it we might write a few lines.

Honestly, the best way to go is traditional with a few lines made your own.

We chose/wrote our own.
I wrote mine and DH found his online and chose them for his since he said "the said it all and he didn't need to change them"
I have known couples writing theirs that did it a week before the ceremony so just ask your officiant how soon he needs them and go by that and not what the Knot tells you ;)

Our whole wedding was pretty traditional, and that included our vows. We had enough other stuff to worry about than to worry about writing our own. :)

We did not have to write our own, but we could if we had wanted to. We just went with the standard vows our Pastor suggested.

We wanted to write our own, but ended up instead getting our pastor to come up with unique ones for us (she's my best friend's mom, so we know her quite well personally) She cut and pasted a bunch of different ones with our input to make them unique and totally us!
We WANTED to write our own, and totally planned to do so, but once we started we realized how daunting of a task it was ( to all those who wrote their own!) we gave up! The webpage we had to help us out suggested we write letters to each other to start, and draw our vows from those letters.
What we ended up doing was take snippets of those letters that weren't very vow-like but still very sweet, and read those to each other before we did the vows. I liked doing that because it still let us express our feelings towards each other, but it was nowhere near as scary to write as the actual voes themselves!!

We didn't. We just picked bits and pieces of ones that I found on the internet to say what we wanted to say.
You do not have to write your own.

We wrote our own...got ideas from online and a few books. Take your time and just combine a few ideas of things you like!

I think we're going to. Maybe not full-blown vows, but a few sentences in there to make it our "own." He's fine with it...as long as he can have a little reference card in his sleeve in case he forgets!

We read ours from index cards I had printed up, we both knew we would forget what to say. He never looked up while reading his, it was cute :hehe:

We did traditional vows. I was fine with that. We had the option of adding a few lines of our own but meh. I feel like the traditional vows really say all you need to say.

We both had the vows typed out and we read them! I was not even going to try to memorize them at all...knew that was not going to happen! The pastor geld mine and handed them to me when it was time!

We actually wrote our own and had the pastor say some.....we didn't write a book but we each just wrote what was on our minds and then the pastor filled in the gaps with the rest.....it actually turned out really good!

We're doing something similar to this. We will each say something personal before we exchange our more traditional vows.
I totally plan to have them written down on a card, but DH seems to think that looks weird.
Don't worry, I'll get my way. ;)

I suggested to DH about writing our own, but he just kind of shrugged his shoulders. He didn't really want to do that. So we went with the format the church used. It was exactly what we wanted!

I actually love the idea of saying "I Do" to the same vows that our parents, grandparents, etc. pledged their love for one another too.
I think saying something personal before the vows is a really sweet idea as well. It definitely adds a more personal touch to the ceremony! I'm going to ask Luke and see what he feels about it. :)
