I've never posted our proposal story, so I figured I'd give it a go now...
We had been dating a little over a year. Talked about marriage, had shopped for rings a little, but nothing was set in stone. I figured it would be coming within the year, but other than that, it was up to him.
So I was student teaching. It was our April vacation so I was up visiting Bob in NH where he was living. He told me that he wanted to take me out to celebrate my upcoming graduation. So I was supposed to get dressed up. This felt kind of funny to me because we usually celebrate "Olive Garden style". But I did as I was told and put on a skirt and heals. The entire day he was figity. He just wasn't fully involved in any conversation. So of course, I feed off his vibe and I begin to feel a little antsy. I don't really know why, but I am nervous.
So it's time to leave and we drive up to Kennybunkport, Maine. We had never been there and it was quite charming. We pull up to this quaint little restaurant overlooking the ocean. We walk in, he asks for a table and they seat us along a wall of windows. The lighting is low and there is a fireplace on the opposite wall. Simply beautiful.
Dinner went like normal. The food was excellent. I was so stuffed that when they asked if I wanted dessert, I refused. So the waitress said she would be back with the check. 5 minutes later she returns with a tray. On it is an assortment of fruit and nuts, drizzled with chocolate and in the middle is a box that is open, with a ring in it! She places the tray on the table and walks away. I am flabbergasted! My mouth is probably hanging open at this point. He kind of takes a moment to gather his thoughts and then picks up the ring and asks me to marry him. I just planted one on him, he pulls back and asks, "So is that a yes?" and I shake my head and kiss him again. And we hear slight clapping from the other patrons in the restaurant. The owner of the place comes out to congratulate us as do some of the staff.
I just couldn't believe how well thought out his proposal was. He's usually not the romantic type, but he totally made up for it that night. I will never forget it. :lotsalove:
