I am going to start this. I know HisBlue and Becka are done but who knows maybe someone else will be using this theme. I will start with pics later today.

Oooh this is my theme, too! I love it!!!!!

I'm planning to incorporate the US and UK flags somehow - maybe on the cake table or the topper. I have a friend in the UK who makes toppers.

Oh - before I forget and hate myself for it, here is the site where I found the US and UK flags. I actually called the lady and she was very helpful.

www.flagandbanner.com - and I spoke with Kathleen. The item numbers are:

US Flag: MUS46RBS ($1.50/ea)
UK Flag: MSTGE46 ($3.50/ea)

Hope all this info is still good - it's well over a year old. Let me know if you have any problems!

12-18-2006, 08:14 AM
I bet that WAS weird!

That would be a bit too 'ramming the theme down their throats' for me, but I'd be curious to see what a dress like that would look like anyway.

yogi_deuce
12-20-2006, 04:07 PM
The dress is acrtually very beautiful in person. I had it but had to replace when it was destroyed in a fire. But I have seen Becka's pics and she looked so pretty and it didn't look overdone at all.

Heidi if you want to see Becka's pics I will send you the link.

I have soooo much I can post here. I love the UK & USA thing. I will try to find all my old photo files and post here. ANd to not overdo the flag motif we are using the colors but not so much flag colored stuff. Like the tableclothes are blue satin, the centerpieces are red flowers with white candles. My dress is navy blue and my flowers are red & white tulips wrapped in navy blue. So that way it is still patriotic without being overboard July 4th. The kids part of our reception is unquestionably cheesy 4th of July fare.

There is really so many ways to work it if you want formal or casual. It can look very elegant or it can be backyard fun. That is what I love so much about it.

Thanks yogi_deuce! I'm not wanting 'flag overkill'. Its mostly going to be implied by the colors, although either the cake table or our topper will incorporate both the US and UK flags.

I would love to see any photos that you have!

I'm also having US and UK themed favors - the UK guests will get typically American snacks while the US guests will get some UK goodies. :)

I'm thinking that the main 'white' of the wedding will be my dress (well, ivory instead of white, but you get the idea!) and the cake. :D

That flag dress is TOO MUCH. But hey - if that's what a bride wants, that's what a bride should get...!

I am in the middle of a restructure but I will be off this weekend and next week so I will get to posting. I am excited to have people looking at this thread and putting in ideas. My 2 fellow "patriotic brides" got married in 06 so while I am happy for them I miss having them to plan with. Heidi is a sweetie and has come back to be supportive, lol. Heidi I will send you that link after work (since I am already late:laugh3:

Take your time posting everything - I'm not going anywhere! I'm glad to have you and your ideas around, too! I'm still in the conception stages of planning everything (mostly thanks to immigration) so I like seeing all the different ideas and then incorporating what I like the best.

US_UKLOVE, since our actual day is on the fourth of July a lot of our stuff for our reception reflects that. We will have lots of kids there and my next post is all about them but I also got serving dishes that carried that theme as well. For tableclothes and such I went to Wal Mart and bought this satin type material for 1.00 a yard. I got red, white and blue and I made the tablecovers to fit the location. It adds a more polished look I think and you can do alternating colors or say blue with a red runner. Or do you and Fh's table in a different color. The possibilities are endless if you DIY.

Certain areas at the reception just beg for a little humor. Signature cocktails are one. Why not treat your guests to a few hundred glasses of ice cold lemonade? Make it special by serving up half red (made with raspberries and a splash of vodka) and half blue (made with blueberries and blue curacao). Garnish each drink with the appropriate berries and a sprig of fresh mint.

Thanks for all the pics!! I'm sorry I'm just now seeing them. I was out and about most of Saturday, and then my internet at home was down on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (needless to say, I may be changing providers...!).

I am not having a flower girl or ring bearer - my niece and nephew are too old and my FI doesn't have any kids in his family. But I am having my niece as a jr bridesmaid. :)

My mom and I are going to a bridal show on Jan 6th. I'm hoping we get some good ideas there, too. :D

Kiamarie beautiful flowers. You always find the most amazing flowers. You and Mimzy would have the market covered in wedding planning.

Heidi love the pics. I had never seen the pic of your cake table before it looked so pretty. And you were the one with the alternating tablecloth colors. I knew I had seen someone do it but I barely got to see your pics before the old site went down. I am so glad you reposted them.

Are you speaking of this photo?
I'm no Kia, but I believe that the red flowers are Alstromeria and the blue is Delphinium. Both are beautiful hardy. Delphinium is one of my favorite flowers! Alstromeria comes in Burgundy & Rust

Mimzys right there is Alstroemeria, and blue delphinium, there looks like there is a tiny blue flower that looks like Monte Cassino Aster.
Alstromeria comes in reds, pinks lavenders, yellows, salmons and oranges. Most varieties are marked with freckles, or streaks of a contrasting color on the innermost petals.

I totally agree. I am thrilled about my theme, but I'm going to try and be careful not to bash people over the head with it (if you know what I mean). Just sort of understated, if possible. I think those bouquets fit in perfectly for that.

And that coursage in the earlier picture. Understated, but very pretty.

Mimzy of course you are cool. You are friends with us patriotic brides... thus making you COOL :kimgrill:

yogi_deuce
12-30-2006, 02:28 PM
Mimzy you are beyond cool. It isn't that I don't like roses. I just think they are obvious choices and thus they become ordinary. It takes no thought for a man to send his wife a dozen roses. But it does to send her a bouquet of her favorite flower or a blend of exotic flowers. KWIM? I think roses are overused but they can be beautiful.

Also why do they genetically engineer roses until they lose their fragrance? I think the frangrance from flowers is part of the point of them. Magnolias have the sweetest smell and are beautiful, sadly they don't last long.

Of course I like tulips (which are becoming common) I love the way they lean towards the sun or kinda droop.

Mimzy
12-31-2006, 02:02 AM
:bliss: I get to hang with the cool kids!:bliss: Now will they let me sit at their table?:bliss:

I don't know about the fragrance - but they sure arn't the same as the ones in my rose garden!

When I was working at a florist back in high school - there were the guys that came in saying "give me a dozen red" and then there was the guy that came in and would hand pick each flower and sorta take a long time about it but you could tell he really cared. It was always on a Thursday and he would talk about what he was making for dinner. We even swaped recipes :lol2: So yes there is a Huge difference in the two types of men!

I had never really thought about it before. But I think tulips look better alone or with something that compliments. But since I am not a florist I don't know really what would, lol.

For my bouquet I really what white eggs, I mean tulips, and red berries. I think dried berries would be best but who knows. I am so at a lost when it comes to flowers. Maybe I will do red tulips.

COOL idea - Kia!

The forecast calls for calm waters and smooth sailing on the horizon with our "Set Sail Anchor Necklace". A bold and beautiful anchor pendant stands out with vibrant Turquoise stones. A nautical rope wraps around the anchor while four Austrian crystal stones add a splash of sparkle to this maritime jewel from the deep! Available in antique silvertone and measures approximately 16" long with a 2" extender.

Well, what a small world. I see this thread hasnt been active in awhile, but I hope I will draw the attention back.

YOGi---:wave:HELLO! I am soo happy to see you on here. I swear, when I saw this post, I about shrieked. Esp since you seemed to remember me. I was terribly upset to see that half the pics wont load for me though. It is so good to finally find my way here though, I wish I had known about this site sooner! But better late than never. I look forward to talking with you again!

Ok, want some pics of this awsome color theme? I will share some.

Starting simple, I chose an aquamarine wedding :rings: ring set as I loved the blue color. Here is my wedding ring...

Miss sparky, thank you so much. Your to kind.

Yeah, we had a pretty big bridal party. But...
2 of the girls were just candle lighters. (The ones in red)
3 were my sisters
2 were my SILs
1 of my neices was a JR. Bridesmaid
1 neice of mine was the flowergirl/mini bride and
2 were my close friends

LOL I have a large, close family. I wanted them all apart of it. My hubby on the other hand had a much harder time picking out his groomsmen. LOL But we both knew we wanted all of our family involved. My brother was in it, as was my Husbands nephews (Mine now too!), and my hubbys brother.

It was worth it, allthough my photographer had a heck of a time getting us all in the photos. LOL
