Are you using a really unusual colour theme? Items that are personal to you and FH? Post what you are doing that's unique.

 at Kari's post. It'll be unique to the guests at your wedding though, right? :lol2: That's the way I see it - the awesome ideas I get from here will be things people at our wedding haven't seen or heard done before!

In that list of "borrowed" ideas? Sand Ceremony, photo mat for guests to sign, wish bowl for personal notes from guests, photo scavenger hunt, giving the bouquet to the couple married the longest (instead of tossing).

We're extremely unique to all our guests...but well, not to everyone here

Well I'm going to be the bride and Steve's going to be the groom. No one's been to a wedding like that before.

Our inspiration is unique (1940/WWII). Our location (military base). We both come from big military families and that influence is really going to be seen. Here's a list of some of the things I'm doing (copied for the military bride forum).

All military members in uniform
FH and my dad will be wearing sabers/swords
We will have a saber arch
We will be cutting the cake with a saber

The colors will be flying at our ceremony and reception
(We will have an Army flag, Air Force flag, and Stars & Stripes. Our Stars & Stripes flag that we'll be using was given to my dad at his retirement. It was flown over the base in a C-130, the aircraft I worked on.)

We will be lighting a memorial candle for those who can't be with us.
(On the alter in front of the candle, we will have a folded flag that was flown over the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It was also given to my dad at his retirement.)

We are giving out chocolate coins for favors that are specially molded to resemble the metal coins given out in the military for special events.

In additon to our favors, we are making a donation to the Disabled Veterans of America.

Overall our wedding is going to have a 1940s/WWII vibe to it. Most of the inspiration comes from the two canteen films (Stage Door Canteen & Hollywood Canteen). The canteens were set up to entertain the troops while they were home. These two canteens were mostly staffed by celebrities. Think GI meets Hollywood starlet. Clips from Stage Door Canteen are going to play during the cocktail hour.

During WWII, fabric was being rationed. So many brides used the material from the parachutes their FHs used during the war. We purchased a white silk parachute that will be used to line the inside of my dress.

Besides that,

ostirch plume centerpieces
40s hair and makeup

Abi, I really like all of your ideas, that sounds fabulous!

Unique to my guests will be that all men and fathers will be wearing kilts and we will be doing an outdoors ceremony with traditional vows and a handfasting. I'm sure there is more, but funny enough, I'm following a lot of traditions.

I think the most unique stuff we're doing is our music.

It seems like every wedding I've been to has used that stupid Sarah McLauglin song "Ice Cream" for the cake cutting. I HATE it. No offense to anyone using it, but damn, it's been killed at weddings! We're using "You're My Best Friend" by Queen instead.

We're using a Josh Groban song for our first dance, "When You Say You Love Me." Again, I feel like I hear the same country songs all the time, and wanted something different.

Hmm....those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head, lol.

The only thing that ever comes to mind is that instead of a wedding cake we are doing the mini pumpkin pies in the form of a cupcake cake for our wedding cake. We are also having pumpkin cheesecakes as well and a slab cake for the people who don't like pies and cheesecake.

As for something unique just to my family, out of my immediate family, I'm the only one getting married indoors.

Tanya and I have discussed shooting fireworks off towards the end of the night. However, with Minnesota laws pertaining to fireworks and the cost of the permits and all the other hinderences that would be in our way...we had to let that idea go, however it would have been cool :)

I have seen those before, Abi, and love, love, love them! How are you going to light them? I was going to use them for a winter wedding and use beaded stems instead but I could never figure out how to light them from within.

Hmmmm.....

-We are having a family-only brunch the next day (is that unique?)
-We are combining the father/daughter and mother/son dances into one dance because we don't want bored guests!
-We are surprising my BM Katie with a birthday song and shamrock-shaped Bailey's cake since her 30th birthday is the day of the wedding
-We have arranged a shuttle service at the guest hotels to transport our (drunken) guests to and from the wedding
-We are probably going to end up leaving the reception in a cab if we can't find decent and inexpensive transportation to drive us 3 miles to our hotel :)

I laughed at Jillians reply. I agree. No one thought that fh and I would get married.
We are having a cupcake cake. Which no one seems to have seen before.
We are having a photo matt for the guest book.
Our cake topper is different.
We are having the ceremony and reception/supper in the same hall. Just have to move chairs.
My dress is unique.
Alot of things that I think are unique may not be to someone else. But where I live they are.

We are using silk fowers which no one we know has ever done and we are also doing a bunch of little things That may not seem unique to others but is to us, like a candy buffet, and helium balloons and gift cards.

Abi,
I never grown tired of reading all the details of your plans. You are truly going to have an amazing, unique wedding.

I think the main thing that will make our renewal unique is that everything has been very personalized. From the wording of the ceremony, to the decor, etc we're really working to put our hearts into everything. I really want for our guests to look around and just see "us." Our theme (which focuses around photographs) is semi-unique, I think. Also, the centerpieces are unique...like Rmenda, I came up with the idea all by myself. ;) Like many others have said, there are also a lot of elements we have planned that seem to be everyday here, but I believe they will be original to our guests.
