I want to carry a sword, she won't let me. LoL
No, I've never carried a sword in my life. Well, aside from my samurai sword when I was a kid. Hehe But, well...
Bride Stands To The Groom's Left
In times past, sometimes a jealous suitor would try to take the bride away from the groom. The groom would hold the bride off to the side with his left hand, leaving his right hand free to grip his sword and fight. To this day, the bride stands to the groom's left while marrying.
What if I need a sword and there isn't one available? :O Hhhhmmm, maybe I can talk her into a pocket knife. Hehe Or maybe a Crocodile Dundee "knife" that I can hide in the back of my tux. Hehe

Or...maybe not? :dontknow: Don't worry, if any jealous suitors are there, we'll make sure that either my brother, or your cousin(s), your brother or SOMEONE is there to protect me :ohreally:

Jim came up with bubbles for the reception.
He'd probably go for a sword too, if he read this. sssh...

Very true. There's a high demand nowadays for sword fighting at weddings Jer, I see your point :p You never know what could happen!
LOL, that cracked me up, thanks! You da man, you must keep Kathy laughing all the time!
My DH's brilliant idea was to go to Vegas, and be married by the parachuting Elvis impersonators. Possibley while skydiving.
Yeah. That happened. :lolroll:

DH came up with the idea of planning the honeymoon entirely himself and surprising me! I didn't have to worry at all about the honeymoon, except for packing appropriately and showing up! ;)

Nick's brilliant idea was that a $30k budget wouldn't be enough for 100-150 people. UMMM okay! WHat is really bad is that this came about after I told him we were not getting married in Vegas, no matter how much he whined.

Not dang on thing! Lmao! Not yet anyway…lol
Hi hi-
My honey came up with the cruise idea for the honeymoon... his other brilliant idea was the Scottish theme wedding.
*whispers* Hey Jer, why not do a Scottish Dirk or Sgian Dubhs?? They are easy to hide, and actually made for that purpose... *looks towards Kathy and runs*

Hhhhmmm, I Googled them, and they both look like I could do some serious damage with them. Probably to myself before a jealous suitor even got close. LoL
Told Mom today that Kathy wouldn't let me have a sword, her response..."What do you need with a sword at your wedding?" Thinking daggar cuff links are gonna be it. LoL If I can find any that aren't $150. Criminy, never imagined they'd be that expensive! *shakes head*

I'm soooooo glad my FMIL is on my side :jump4joy: Another reason why I love her so much
And well, I already told you Jer that you'll get a sword - but it'll be plastic and it'll be in a couple of pictures and then you could lovingly donate it to your nephew :D

Jer~ My FH would totally go for the idea if I let him! LOL!
He is begging me to let him wear a red or purple suit...um no! Also had the bright idea of inviting friends on our honeymoon...again, um no!
Hi hi-
They are only dangerous if you take them out of the case. www.budk.com has some really inexpensive ones...
Ebay item 140008761737 is very cool for cufflinks and not that expensive.

Friends on the honeymoon  Now THAT is funny! :laugh3:
Hi hi-
My boss's partner suggested sending my boss on my honeymoon with me so I can still get paid and watch my boss at the same time... I told him that was only going to happen if the boss's partner paid for the whole honeymoon.

I had another idea, Kathy shot it down, too. :(
Ok, so it started several months back when a friend found a site called PimpHats.com and he photoshopped my head onto one of their Pimp Suits. LoL
http://www.jerandkathy.com/kathy/UW_Photos/jer-the-pimp.jpg
So then we move forward several months to the whole scenario surrounding our Dollar Dance (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?t=713) and Kathy says with the turn out we're having with reactions (mostly from people I know and her family), I'm going to end up having to pimp him out.
All I wanted was a nice Pimp Suit (http://www.pimphats.com/ecatalog/product_info.php/products_id/86?osCsid=e0b7bf179fd76745d4aa1bccb15f3580). It even comes in purple (one of our colours). LoL She won't let me? I don't understand why, tho? LoL

I've come to the conclusion that if the men planned the weddings, all they would do is attempt to one-up each other in levels of absurdity. Weddings would be very strange, but very, very funny.

If that was the case, weddings wouldn't cost nearly as much and be a lot shorter and involve a lot more sports and sport type activities :)

I disagree - it would take a while for the plane to get into position to drop the parachutist(s), etc. ;) Besides, not all guys are jocks. ;) I could take sports or leave 'em, to be quite honest. *shrugs*
I do agree with the above, post, tho...That if guys did it, it would simply be a one-up-manship competition.

I saw more of pimp suits or geeky 80s suits, dinner would always be barbecue, the reception would probably feature video games, the cake smashing tradition would not be dying, and a million other things I can't think of right now.

Video Games - good idea. ;) The big arcade ones, too. *nods*

Hi hi-
Not totally true... I don't remember what show it was, but it was a reailty show where the husband planned the wedding with a few friends. It was totally cool and elegant. I do somewhat agree though... I think if honey was exclusively handling our wedding, we'd be married at the courthouse and then off for the honeymoon... everything else be forgotten.

I think what she meant was if guys did it exclusively/traditionally. :) But, since we don't...We know what's expected of a wedding (and to be honest, some of us actually like a lot of those things ;))...So we aim for that. :D

One thing that would be different would the receiption for me, we could still do the whole dance thing and everything, but it would be about half the cost and all the decorating stuff would not be a necessity for us :)

Yeah if my FI was planning the wedding there would be no dancing, only 60 guest. No decorations. There would be video games every where. There would be very little decorations.

Bob didn't really have much to do with the planning. So he was good.
But my friend made the mistake of sending her now DH out with his best man to choose tuxes. Well, they show up on the big day and every guy has on a different color tux! lol

FH wanted a metallica wedding. Yes. He wanted me to walk down the aisle to "For Whom the Bell Tolls". No, he wasn't joking. It would be different if he was a huge Metallica fan, but he's not really. Talk about weird.

My FH makes lots of silly suggestions, but he doesn't really mean any of them. If it were up to him to plan the wedding, it would be the most boring cookie-cutter wedding in the world. I would throw out all these ideas (nothing too out there, because I"m fairly traditional too) and he would always say, "I don't know...I've never seen that at a wedding before." I was like that's the point!!!!
I had to tell him that I was trying really hard to make the wedding reflect us (one idea was having a coffee bar instead of a groom's cake because he's a total addict), and that it hurt me when he would just automatically dismiss all of my ideas. He's been a lot more considerate about those things since then.

Let's see...my DH REALLY wanted a bagpiper, and I kept telling him NO; however, I surprised him with a bagpiper at the wedding ;)
He also was joking and said, no rice or bubbles -- let's have kazoos -- WE DID, and they worked out great!

James wanted to get married in www.lendonwood.org . Very beautiful but was too expensive for us to get married there. Then had to take shoes off to use the outdoor pavillion.
He picked out our cake topper and that was a good thing :) and he actually chose our actual location first but we didn't chose it until last :)
