Ok, so let's have it...I always got a kick out of this at UW. What's the strangest thing(s) you've seen (or added) to a registry?

Size XXL underwear...for the husband. It was a joke (he did not wear that size!).
I've also seen Snickers bars, and Wolfgang Puck soup!

We registered for all sorts of bizarre and weird things. Part of this was because we really didn't want gifts (but I literally had people getting angry at me for not registering) and part of it was because my husband has everything. We did have some traditional things (bedding, etc.) but a lot of it was weird food items, t-shirts, or software. ;)

My aunt and her husband registered for 24packs of Pepsi, toilet paper, paper towels...it was weird. They had already had a house filled with all of the stuff, and my grandma had told her that she had to have a registry....so tahts what they registered for. They got a lot of Target gift cards and checks! LOL!

Ha ha!! We registered for toilet paper too! :laugh3: We had a lot of "regular" registry items, but threw in a few goofy things (since we are goofy people! :hehe: ). We also registered for Chocolate Donut Gems, Cheese Nips, Reese's Magic Shell, marshmallows, Jr. Mints and Emeril's Salsa. You know, we got almost all the silly stuff...we even had 2 people buy us toilet paper!

I think the strangest I've seen was on my sister's registry. They registered for 20 cans each of Chef Boyardee (sp?) Ravioli and Spaghetti-o's.

I was going to register for cleaning supplies, and other things like that just to see if we got it, but deiced against it.

One of my friends put duct tape, different sizes of rope, a couple different games and cartoons they enjoy, including The Incredibles.

I put on our registry a tool box. We need one, its pricey so I don't think we will get it.

In all honesty I have never been to a wedding were the couple has registered. So I can't really answer that question.

My BIL registered for a bottle of Powerade. He was just being silly and wondered if anyone would buy it. Well, we out did that, and had EVERYONE bring a bottle to the shower. He had a huge laundry basket filled!

Midol, my friends were registering at Target and her FH thought she was having PMS because she was a little stressed so he thought adding Midol to the registery would be a good idea. She did not know until I called her a week later.

For some reason this is so funny to me! :laugh3: I am sure she wasn't so pleased, but still sort of

A friend of mine told me that her FI loved having the gun to scan things, and that he went around like a crazy person scanning everything!:hysterics:

A college professor of mine once went to look at a registery where the couple had added AMMO! You can tell you are in West Virginia, I guess :hehe:

He said it was too funny not to get them the ammo :laugh3:

So many of these are just cracking me up! I don't think we had any weird things on our registry. We did register for a tent, though (didn't get it) - thought we would try camping. LOL Oh well.

My fiancé's best friend and his wife registered for not one, but two armillaries. :dunno:

ETA: This is an armillary. Not sure why you would need one, let alone two. They don't have a library in their house, which is where I think one would make the most sense. And by the way, we bought one for them, and have never seen it in their house or backyard, ever.

my brother and sister in law registered for curlers and tooth brushes (which they did not get).
my sister and brother in law registered for Mt. Dew and a sling shot monkey(which, of course, they got).
http://www.jprtrading.com/images/med_img_slingmonkey.jpg

My FH wants to register for Mt. Dew and a tool box and furniture...i told him we would be wasting our time if we registered for furniture. No one would buy it for us. Not to mention i'm pretty sure you cant just go register for furniture...maybe i'm wrong? haha

*Diane*
01-23-2009, 12:37 PM
I have seen furniture on a registry before from Pier 1 but I don't think they offer a registry anymore. Dillards and Target both offer furniture though. Many times people in an office or groups of friends will pool their money to get the couple a more expensive gift so it is not unlikely that people would give you furniture if you registered for it.

We also had board games on ours. We got a couple of them, but we ended up returning them (:hide:) because we realized we did NOT like the way the "library collection" boards lay. We've since bought two of the ones we wanted.

Now that everyone registers at Target, I see a lot of weird stuff. A girl I work with seriously registered for bottled water. Her husband just wanted to see if anyone actually got it for them...but still.

On our registry: the deep fryer (which I didn't want, but was a concession to DH).

On other registries: XXXL men's underwear, canned soup, candy bars.

I just saw my friends had registered for a PS3, a tent, board games, a surround sound system, and other random things I wouldn't expect to see on a registry. And to think, they put them in their invites, I should have expected it. I am just like :jawdrop:

Kathy
06-16-2009, 09:11 AM
Except for the PS3, I've seen all of those things on registries before. :shrug2: Camping and board games are cute couple-y things to do, and we registered for both of those things, so I don't think they're that weird.

I see a registry as things you only need for your house. I forgot to add the registered for a telescope...I dunno. I think they went scan crazy? I have no idea. OR, talking with my mom today we thought you know how the people get an extra percentage off of your registry after the wedding? So maybe they have a lot save up and just did that. I have no idea. I just found it strange.

I definitely put things on my registry that I wanted a discount on later! Nothing too strange really, but I have seen big screen TV's etc on registries before, probably for the same reason. Whatever makes the couple happy and is something they will actually use :dontknow: I guess I didn't pay too much attention to the more unusual items I've seen because I knew I wouldn't be buying them. :hehe:

a friend of ours registered for a box of toothpicks -- I think they got tons of boxes of toothpicks...the bride wasn't too happy that her husband had put it on the registry.

We put a toolbox on our registry and DH's co-workers bought it for him at a shower they threw for us! :)

My boyfriends best friend got married. He was really into camping and emergency preperation. He had a 72-Hour Emergency Kit from Canadian Tire on the registry. My boyfriend and I got it for him plus we stuffed the Canadian Tire Money into the Money Box. (they give you paper money with 10cents or 25cents on them to save up and use at Canadian Tire)

My BF told me after that his friend was thrilled to find about 5 bucks in Canadian Tire Money after the wedding. I guess we were not the only ones!
