Did the location of your wedding play into your choice of dress? How so?

I'm having my renewal at a lighthouse and am trying to decide what that means for dresses.

Personally I think you should wear whatever you fall in love with!I totally agree! I also think that you should take practicality into consideration, but don't let that stop you from buying the dress you truly fall in love with!

For instance, are you having your renewal at the top of the lighthouse? If so, then a simplier dress might be more practical! That being said, if you find a dress you love that has a train, you can always get it bustled for the event!

I got married in the winter, and so chose a dress with heavier satin because I felt it was more appropriate for the season. That was also the dress that I just so happened to fall in love with, and I can't say that I went shopping with the INTENT of finding a "heavy fabric" in my dress.

Well I was married outside in a state park, so for that reason I chose not to have a train on my gown. I knew that it would get really dirty just by walking down the "aisle" *which was a quarter of a mile long *

If I had been married in doors I think I would have had a train.

No I got my dress first then the reception site. Kitty brought up a good idea bout practicalities I was getting married in Winter I did not want strappy or sleeveless but there are always ways around that if I had wanted that style there were wraps or boleros I could have worn

i agree with buying the dress you fall in love with, but like the other girls said sometimes you wanna consider whether its practicle or not... im having mine inside but the aisel & chapel are really tiny so im going for a simple a-line without a train so that i leave room for my papa to walk me down the aisel, and so that my bms will fit next to me at the alter :D

Same as Kelci, I chose one that wasn't too wide so that both of my parents could walk with me down the aisle. And same as Jaime, I didn't do a long train b/c the ceremony was outside and would just get filthy.

For me there were also religious considerations. I needed something that either had sleeves or could have a wrap or jacket. So, when I found pretty much the exact dress I wanted but with sleeves, I got it. It was my dream dress, and I was really pretty lucky for it. When I had first tried on the dress that would have been my dress, they had a matching organza jacket in the store, but it wasn't entirely comfortable, and I was worried about that. So the sleeves worked!

I also ended up with the dress bustled for most of the ceremony, because of the way a Jewish ceremony works, generally. I was glad to have the freedom of movement as well!

For a lighthouse, I think it's a matter of figuring out what that means, if it means getting something without a huge train, or getting it bustled for the ceremony, or anything like that. I did try on a dress that had a huge train but came in a version without a train as well. Something to think about :)
