When the last line has been cast and you're left all alone,
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
When it's the 27th of the month and you've only 84 cents,
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
When the car won't start and the nice man says "only $65",
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
When the washer won't wash, the dryer won't dry and the vacuum won't vac all in one day,
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
You stop and count and find in 16 years you've spent half the time alone,
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
It's Christmas morning with all the shining faces and you're hopeing the bikes hold together,
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
For days on end you wait and all the mailman brings is "occupant"
You wonder: Why did I marry a sailor?
The one morning you find all the lines are crossed out, it's time for the Big Fish to come home. While you watch them pull in, the lump in your throat grows.
You know why you married a sailor.
You remember all the other homecommings, the look in his eyes when he sees you, the gentleness as he hugs each child,
You know why you married a sailor.
The feel of his hand on your arm and the way he says "Hi Hon, you look great."
You know why you married a sailor.
You wake up in the night to a strange sound, that's him breathing.
You know why you married a sailor.
You snuggle down, his arms hold you close,
I know why I married MY SAILOR.

''Twas the night before deployment and all through our home
There was movement and chatter through each room I did roam.

The seabags were packed, stacked near the doorway with care.
Because 2400 end of liberty, soon would be here.

Little Jimmy was up, he would not go to bed.
In a diaper, my black shoes, my cap pulled over his head,

He tromped through the house and he smiled with glee,
When I said, "Yep, you're a sailor, a sailor like me".

I'll be gone at least six months, six months or more,
By then he'll have another height "notch" mark on the door.

Then there's Tommy asleep, you know he's turned ten,
He said he wished I didn't have to leave him again.

This morning I chuckled when I pulled him out of the rack,
He said he'd been dreaming of a Big Mac Attack!

I made sure I got to his soccer game yesterday,
For you see, the rest of the season I'll be away.

There's my wife, this last week she's started to cry and pine,
It's not easy to leave her and the children behind.

There's Linda who is seventeen, her prom's drawing near,
My princess in formal, wish I could be here.

Her boyfriend will arrive in his formal coat tail,
Time goes so fast, will she soon wear a white veil?

Linda's friend was just over and I heard her say,
"How can you stand it when your father's away?"

"Its hard -- I miss him, whenever he's gone,
But to beg him to stay would be terribly wrong.

It's his job, it's his duty, his career -- don't you see,
It's for country, our family, and you, he keeps us all free.

And you've heard of terrorists who all think they're right,
To threaten and scare people and shoot many on sight.

There's not many jobs as important, you hear,
the Navy's our life, a family career."

And I heard my children yell as we pulled out from the pier,

"We'll miss you, we love ya, Daddy, we'll wait for you here!"

I wear no uniforms, no blues or army greens.

But I am in the military in the ranks that are rarely seen.

I have no rank upon my shoulders.

Salutes I do no give,

but the military world is the place where I live.

I am not in the chain of command orders I do not get,

but my husband does this I can no forget.

I am not the one who fires the weapon,

who puts my life on the line,

but my job is just as tough I am the one that is left behind.

My husband is a patriot a brave and pride filled man.

And the call to serve his country not all understands.

Behind the lines I see the things needed to keep this country free.

My husband makes the sacrifice, but so do our kids and me.

I love the man I married. Soldiering is his life,

but I stand among the silent ranks known as the military wife.

I am a small and precious child, my dads been sent to fight...
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud. My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war...
My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
Every day I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud. My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband who had to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack...
My heart may break, but I am proud. My husband's got your back...

I am a soldier... Serving Proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home.
It's me who's got your back.
