Were you guys faithful with updating your budget (ie actual wedding costs)?? Did you keep on track or did you eventually just give up on the whole budget???

No, My parents paid for it and I didn't keep track of anything at all.. I have had people ask me how much my wedding cost and I don't know or care to know.. I feel bad that they paid and prefer to never bring it up again!

We tried to initially then decided we would rather just get what we want, no matter the cost. We only get one day and it's not like we were going into debt or anything...

I did, but not so much to stay on budget (my parents paid for most everything) but to just know how much we spent on our wedding. Everytime I bought something or paid someone I would write it down. We actually only spent $1,000 more than I had planned and that was mostly because my mom wanted me to have nicer flowers, etc.

Yep, I kept track. Not down to every penny but pretty close. We thought we'd be paying for everything so we needed to have an idea of how much we needed to save and how we were going to pay for it.
It came in handy in the end because my parents decided to contribute quite a bit and wanted to know what money we'd put in, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to see what the total was for the number of guests and type of wedding we had!!

We paid for it all on our own so I kept careful track of the money we had and what we spent. I had lots of lists and spreadsheets. But that could just be the dorky math teacher in me. =) But I have to say it felt great not to have to put anything on credit. We didn't owe a dime to anyone.

My dad is an accountant, I know I'm getting $8000 from them but I have to give a detailed budget before I get any money, he wants to make sure that is enough, any that is left over goes to me, so I'm being frugal

I made a guestimate budget but when all the real costs started coming in, I gave up. I have no idea how much money the wedding cost!

Ditto. I know the general ballpark of where I ended up, and it was roughly $15K+ over the original budget, which would never have worked out anyway with the amount of people we had to invite.

I have a general idea but no clue of all the actual costs because my parents haven't even been keeping track. As long as the cost seems reasonable for whatever we are buying at the time, my parents are cool with it.

We paid for our wedding (except for RD), so I kept a pretty detailed spreadsheet of the big costs, so we would know how much was going into each part of the wedding. Little things like a $5 purchase from Michaels didn't count.

We kept track of everything major. Basically anything over $150. We were adamant about our budget, and came in under. It was really nice. We thought we were going to wipe out most of our savings, but we didn't even come close to doing that. House remodel time!

I tracked our budget, down to the last penny. When we first began planning, I put together a spreadsheet with an estimated and an actual column. I entered everything on that baby along the way. It was the only way I could have possibly stayed sane and stayed within our budget.

Oh hell yeah, we kept track b/c we had too. There wasn't extra money to just blow anywhere. I mean there were some smaller things that weren't so much a big deal, but the big things were very carefully controlled.

We kept track of everything major and paid for the majority ourselves. My parents paid for the rehearsal party, the meal, and the reception hall. I didn't keep track of all the little things that I bought here and there though.

Since my parents are paying we really try to stay on top of how much we're spending.

We didn't really have a budget, but we kept track of everything. I compared prices before a single item was purchased or down payment made, so I knew I was getting a good deal. That was good enough for us (and we paid for almost everything, his parents helped at the end ).

He works so is paying for reception and honeymoon.
I only need to worry about ceremony related stuff and reception decorations, and yes, am keeping track.
I wish I didn't have to keep track but I know that I will have to since we are going to be paying for majority of the wedding ourselves and we also want to buy a house as soon as we can.
