I want to but FH, my parents and FIL's all think it's tacky so I have been outvoted.

We're doing the Dollar Dance. But it presents a bit of an obsticle for us. Well, a couple.
It's very difficult if not impossible for me to feel comfortable in my wheelchair dancing. As a result, our first dance, Kathy will be 'carrying' me around the dance floor. Think of dancing with your 2-3 nephew? i only weigh about 75'ish pounds, and she can handle it. So it's all good. :)
For the Dollar Dance, I'll be having a "DD" - Designated Dancer. It just so happens that my cousin happens to be a drop dead gorgeous (and I have no qualms about saying that LoL) male model.

So he'll be my DD for the evening for the Dollar Dance. :D
Second obsticle is that a 'fund raising' type deal such as the Dollar Dance is something that is typically done at the Stag & Doe in Ottawa, not the Reception as it is done locally here. As a result, we've decided to say upfront that 50% of the proceeds...No matter how much we get, will be going towards a charity. We just decided the other day on the Make a Wish Foundation (http://www.wish.org/) - without them I'd have never gotten my first laptop...The one I was using when I met Kathy. :)

Worst part about the Designated Dancer?? I won't actually get much of a chance to dance with him
And well, there are many people around here already saving money, so we might have to have a Dollar-Dance hour...just for him :lol2:

We will be doing the dollar dance. I know this is one of the controversial threads that have been around.
The reason why we WILL be doing it is because it is VERY VERY popular here in Minnesota. I have never been to a wedding that didn't have the dollar dance. There was one wedding where they decided that they weren't going to do it because of timing issues, but all the guests were begging the bride and groom to have it! :)
So all in all...I can't see Chris and I not doing it at our wedding :)

Just in case you're interested...You can find more pics at MySpace (http://myspace.com/z87). At times, he looks as tho he has an "all that & a bag of chips" attitude, but he's actually a pretty cool guy. Not full of himself. :D

I don't think we're going to do it.... They're not unheard of where I live, but it's not like they're at every wedding either...

They are done all the time here (never saw them done back home..TN) so we will do it. I think it will be a fun way to dance with some friends and relatives that I wouldn't get to dance with otherwise. Plus, who can't use a little extra cash after a wedding, hehe!

Yes, yes he is. LoL And he prides himself that it's all natural, no shots, no juice, nothing.
His brother isn't all that bad, either. He's got more of the babyface, tho. Last I saw of him, he wasn't as 'buff', either. But then, he's been in Iraq since March. So, I have to imagine he's beefed up since I saw him last. :)

We will be doing the dollar dance too, it is very popular in my area. I don't think I've been at a wedding where they haven't had one. I know people look at it tacky, but it's a great way to see alot of the people at your reception!

This is totally OFF TOPIC so I will warn you :) But I was looking at this pic and thought, man that guy looks familiar! So I clicked on the MySpace link, and wouldn't you know he goes to my college Bowling Green! Small world huh? :)
Now, back to being ON TOPIC :) We will probably not have the dollar dance, it isn't all that common in our area, some people do it, some don't...:)

Someone pays a dollar (or bill of their choice) to dance with the bride or groom. :)

We're doing the money dance. I've never gone to a wedding where it hasn't been done~
I have a question - Is the money dance music slow songs or does it matter?
PurpleFlower
07-25-2006, 12:22 PM
normally it is slow but if it continues on it can become fast...my cousin had hers continue on for 3 or 4 songs!!
~Crystal~

Thanks Purple Flower! I remember it being slow songs but wasn't sure if people do it differently!

We did the dollar dance. It was a fast dance song. The plan was for the DJ to play a few songs but he only played one. I could tell that our guests were still wanting to dance and give us money. We got about 100 dollars from that dance. It was extra money for us on our honeymoon!

I had never heard of such a thing until someone on a wedding board told me about it.
Apparently its NOT a tradition or even heard of in Oklahoma.
I kinda wish I could do it cause that would be a great way to earn some money :) No wait.. they would be paying me NOT to dance cause I wouldn't begin to know how to formally dance ;) Or will the guests be running and screaming for the door? ;)
We aren't going to do it or even have a DJ... DJ's are more of a thing for girls that have a better budget than I do :)

I never heard of it before. We didnt do it
Kathy and Jer (the people, not just the user name :P ) You guys are going to make a ton of money on your dollar dance :D
And like Tanya mentioned, if I didn't do the dollar dance, there'd be a mob! I already told my mom that we weren't doing the garter auction and she got all pouty and was like "But people expect it and people are going to be dissapointed!" how can people be dissapointed that they don't have to throw money at us? I just don't understand it!

I was shocked to see that he goes to BGSU too, Beth! Where do they hide that eye candy--I certainly haven't seen it around campus! :laugh3:
