Hi everyone!
I have a serious issue and someone told me to join MLW and it will help me with my wedding woes. My wedding is July 12, 2008 and I am about to order the BM dresses (which we are paying for) and one of my bridesmaid just tells me she wants to hold off on ordering her dress because she is trying to get pregnant and does not know what size she will be.... My dilemma is this. I finally found the BM dresses I love and they just happen to be 40% off and since I am buying 6 it is a huge savings.... if I hold off on ordering her dress it may not be available at the time we order hers. The dress does not come in a maternity option.... :(

Since you are buying the dresses I think you should have say in when you are ordering them.

I would order the dresses. If she does get pregnant by the time of your wedding, you can deal with it then. If she's only a few months pregnant at the time, the dress can probably be altered for her. If she is very pregnant, your options are to find her a maternity dress in the same color, or have fabric added to the dress you have bought for her. You can even order an extra dress so there's extra of the exact fabric for a seamstress to use.
Just let her know you wish her all the best with getting pregnant, but you would like to order the dresses, and y'all can figure out a solution in July. I hope this helps.

:yeah:
If you're paying, tell her that you want to order now, but that you'll order more fabric so that if she's pregnant the dress can be altered to fit her. It's not fair for her to tell you to order later if you're paying and it will cost you more.

Order the dresses when you want to since you are paying for them.
Two options though:
1) buy her gown 2 sizes bigger in case she does get pregnant (its easier to take a gown in than to let it out)
2) buy extra fabric for her gown so that a panel can be added if need be if she gets pregnant.

Paula took the words right out of my mouth. Order her dress two sizes too big and if she's not pregnant or not very far along at the time, she can pay to have it altered. I would absolutely buy it too big, instead of her correct size.

Can your chosen dress be altered for maternity or weight gain? I am taking a little bit different approach because with 10 months between now and the wedding, you don't know what might happen with the other BMs either. It is not usual for people to move up a size or two (or more :hiya: ) in 10 months time.

Is it possible to buy matching material- that way she can her dress made to her liking closer to your wedding?

I just basically echo the advice that has already been given. Welcome by the way :)

The thing with TTC is that it doesn't always go as planned. I would order the dress now (either current size or bigger) and deal with her size IF she is pregnant at the time of the wedding.
The thing is, you may have to be flexible. For instance, if you can't alter the dress properly would it be so bad if she wore a different dress in the same color?

So true!
I went from a size 18 to 12 because I lost weight. Another bridesmaid went from a 12 to a 14 because she became pregnant. Thank goodness our skirts were full and the waistline high. I switched to a smaller dress and had alterations done to take it in further. The pregnant bridesmaid, however, needed a bigger dress. Sister had ordered a spare one in anticipation of problems.
