Hey I jsut noticed that our tickers says teh exact same thing.....but our weddings are 1 week apart....strange?!
dolface546
07-17-2007, 10:39 AM
hmmmmmmm, I'll go check and make sure mine is right.....May 24 was my original date and I probably forgot to change the ticker.
Edit-The wrong time zone was selected and threw it off by a week, how odd!

Come out, come out, where ever you are 2008 brides....I know you're out there...:poke:
Let's try this...a little QOD:
How far in advance did you start planning?? What have you booked/finished already??
US_UKlove
07-18-2007, 12:42 PM
Well I'm a 2008 bride! But I'm also a 2007 bride - we're getting married next week in the courthouse :) then having a vow renewal in March 2008.
I haven't done a thing yet for the March 2008 shindig. Will probably start in Mid September, though. :)
Kathy
07-18-2007, 01:49 PM
Weird that I haven't checked in here yet, since I've been on MLW for almost a year already!
Me: Kathy (22, will be 23 when we get married)
FH: Brian (26)
Dating: July 27, 2004
Engaged: July 14, 2006
Married: January 5, 2008
Colours: Light blue, silver, and white
Theme: Wintery and icey
Anything else: My blue topaz e-ring and a January date both inspired the wintery theme :)
How far in advance did you start planning?? What have you booked/finished already??
Well, we started planning pretty much right away, though the ball was really rolling once we set our date back in October. I think we have everything booked alread - church, country club, photographer, caterer, baker, DJ. I have my dress (plus tiara, veils, shoes, undergarments, and jewelry) and the BMs have theirs as well. I've purchased the paper products to do our invitations, programs, and place cards (and we sent our save-the-dates a couple months ago). We've done the bulk of our registering at Target and Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I have some materials for decorating the cake table as well as for the guest table. Seriously, we've got the big picture covered, we're just focusing on the details now.
dolface546
07-18-2007, 05:19 PM
I started planning immediately but my mom was like "you have over a year, don't worry about it!" My response --->:rollpin:
January my mom and I went to a bridal show and she was very negative the whole time.......so I did stuff on my own!
The church reservations went through May 31 (one year in advance exactly!). I've also got a photographer and my STDs. That is all so far.
I've had my guest list set since March though.
Now FH and I are doing pre-marital counseling at mom's request and she won't even fork over deposit money so I'm stuck until we finish that.
(FH and I don't fight at all, I don't know what her problem is with him)
-note-I know that counseling is not just for couples fighting, FH and I just get along VERY well and I don't see the need in spending $400 on sessions)
Kathy
07-18-2007, 06:00 PM
ew, you have to pay $400 for the counseling? Our's was included in the deposit (only $250), which had to be paid during our first of four sessions. And I've read some of your other "mom taking over" issues ... why does she have so much control over everything? (and I don't mean that to be rude, I promise, I'm just curious)
dolface546
07-18-2007, 06:17 PM
I talked to the counselor this morning. We have the choice between 4 sessions and 6 sessions ($300 and $450) plus the cost of the Prepare inventory (compatibility test). This is separate from the church and is with the Samaritan Counseling Center and we would still do the counseling with our minister before the wedding.
I really don't know what to do with my mother, at first we thought that she just didn't like him b/c he had no job and I was paying for a few of our dates, but even once he got out of college and got a job that wasn't good enough. Sadly they have control b/c they are paying. I don't have the income (even jointly we don't have the income) for a wedding.
No one in my immediate family (and much of the extended) is excited about this wedding, my younger sister claims she is but I think she is trying to stay on my good side. Luckily his family is made of awesome.
Don't worry Kathy, I know you aren't rude! :sheep:

Hey ladies!! I'm so gald to see some action on this thread....2008 isn't that far away, and we all know how quickly time flies!
Adam and I didn't pick a date until 3 months after we got engaged, I was in school, life was a little crazy and we weren't in any rush...HOWEVER, my mind was whirling with ideas from the moment that ring was on my finger!!
As soon as we set the date (and school was over for the summer), I decided to hammer out as many details as possible until September hit.
So far we have booked the church, reception hall, decorator, photographer, and caterer. I have material, patterns and a seamstress for my BM's dresses, and I have all of the supplies to make my invites!! I still have 10 months to go before the big day, but once classes start...I just wont have any time!!
It took my Mom a while to get excited about the wedding too!! Don't get me wrong - she was thrilled, but it just seemed so far away to her, and she thought I was foolish for planning so far ahead! It was frustrating at first, but now she's come around and been a HUGE help!
We're taking pre-marital courses too, but its through the church and I'm not sure at this point about the cost....but I am certain that its no where near $400!! Sheeeesh! That's a kick in the ol' butt!! :kickbutt:
AND dolface (sorry I dont know your name!) I can definetely relate to how you are feeling about taking the classes. Adam and I have been living together for 2 years, we have a 1 1/2 year old daughter...we've had our share of challenges/experience as a couple! It does feel like a waste of time...BUT I guess every couple has their weak points, and hopefully we'll learn something about our relationship while we're there.... I'm hoping they can teach him that I'm not his Mommy...I dont do laundry on demand! haha:no:
Sorry to get so winded ladies...my bad!!

Whew I didn't realize how long that was until I hit "post"" if you guys sat and read through that...YOU ROCK!!
Just to make sure this thread stays active....here's another QOD:
How involved has your FH been in the planning??
dolface546
07-19-2007, 05:06 PM
Here is a list of his opinions:
-What do you mean only 100 people?
-Just don't put me in a pastel tux! (esp. pink!)
-That's retarded
-WTF
-You do know I have to help approve the food right?
-Can I have an anime cake?
Kathy
07-19-2007, 08:43 PM
Brian has been super involved with most things. Anything crafty is all mine (invitations, cake design, flowers, etc.) but anything that costs a lot is agreed upon by both of us before going ahead with plans.
Kara_kw
07-23-2007, 09:52 AM
Adam hasn't been overly involved up to this point, BUT we were at a wedding over the weekend and all of a sudden he has LOTS of opinions! Don't get me wrong, our friends wedding was beautiful, but there were some things that we would do differently or not at all. I'm glad he's finally speaking up, and that he realizes how much planning and organizing this wedding is going to take!! He's even offered to help make the invites...although he may just end up sealing envelopes!! :giggle:

Just curious....are any of you having a bar/liquor at your wedding but having one set of parents taking issue with it?
Kathy
07-26-2007, 10:22 AM
Yeah, we had a slight issue with the bar thing. I originally wanted an open bar, but Brian , whose parents pulled the "if we're paying for it, it's going to be what we want" card, insisted it be a cash bar. I'm still not for it, but the "compromise" has been that we'll pay for the wedding party and immediate family, and everyone will pay for their own drinks. Definitely not what I wanted, but because his parents and most of his family don't drink, that's what we had to do. I'm still a litter bitter, but mostly because Brian automatically agreed with his parents and didn't bother sticking up for my opinion when it's our wedding and not their's. Oh well, pick your battles, I guess ...
Kara_kw
07-26-2007, 10:42 AM
My problem is a little different...ours is that FH's parents are against having a bar...period. Lucky for us, they aren't paying for it anyways, but they don't drink, and they aren't exactly thrilled that we've decided to have a bar. They've made it clear that they won't have anything to do with it (cost wise) which isn't an issue... I just hate to make them uncomfortable. My family, FH, myself and all of our friends are social drinkers and we're having an evening reception/dance... this is what FH & I want, but I hate to tick my FIL's off!
Should I stick to my guns and do what WE want? or Compromise? :dontknow:
....I should also mention that once the formalities (cake cutting/speeches/ first dances/eating etc) are over, FH's parents have volunteered to take our daughter home to bed for the night, so they won't even be at the reception when the bar is in full-swing.
Any thoughts? TIA
Kathy
07-26-2007, 12:28 PM
Well, if they're not even going to be there the majority of the eveing, and if they're not paying for it, I think you should do what makes the two of you happy. If they're not thrilled about even having a bar, I doubt there could really be much compromising anyway (like having a limited bar with only wine and beer, etc.). Maybe if FH explained it to his parents in a way that doesn't sound like "it's what we want so that's what we're doing" but rather "we would like to offer our guests a drink, etc." maybe they'd be ok with it?
Kara_kw
07-30-2007, 09:26 AM
Thanks kathy - we actually had a chat with FIL's over the weekend and I think it went very well. It was mostly FMIL who had the issue, but we just explained (kindly) that this was the style of event that we wanted and we wanted to offer our guest the option of having a drink. We fully expect most people to drink and have fun, but we figured if we chose our wording carefully she would think of it as less of a "party" and it worked. I think she was just concerned that it would turn into a gongshow... problem averted!! :cheer:

QOD: Are any of you getting engagement photos done? Or have done so already??
Kathy
07-30-2007, 11:41 AM
Kara, I'm glad you were able to appraoch the subject a little differently with your FMIL
As for engagement photos, the package that we're getting does include a session, so we're going to schedule ours for sometime in October when the fall colors are at their brightest. If they weren't in the package, though, we would not have paid extra to get them done.
Kara_kw
07-30-2007, 01:46 PM
Rosebud - I'm glad people are responding to my efforts to revive the thread!! I figured there were enough of us 2008 girls around, we might as well join forces and get to "know" each other.
And I suppose I could at least answer my own QOD: Our engagements shots were also included in our package, otherwise we probably wouldn't have booked them either. We are doing ours in the fall too, mostly because our wedding is in the spring and we wanted some variety in our pics....and FH loves the fall colours so it was a no brainer.
Feel free to add your own QOD too by the way - i just started as an attempt to get people talking!!
dolface546
07-30-2007, 07:57 PM
Ours are included in a package, we will get them done in fall just to have the nice leaves in the background. If it wasn't included we would still probably have someone take a pic for the paper.
Now if I could just convince my mom that both people go in the pic and not just me (she claims only the bride goes in engagement photos) obviously she hasn't been reading the engagement page of the paper every Sunday for the past year like me!

07-30-2007, 08:47 PM
dolface~sorry I don't know your real name. We did engagement pics (of both of us) and then there were pre-bridal pics that were of just me. Maybe you could explain to your mom that there are 2 types of pictures taken before the wedding.
dolface546
07-30-2007, 11:45 PM
I've told her tons of times. I've shown her pics-the woman is just stubborn. The last time she brought it up I told her that the pic in the paper WOULD have both of us.
FMIL says that the alone pic used to be a sign of wealth or something like that.
Kara_kw
07-31-2007, 10:29 AM
I agree, it sounds like she's thinking of a bridal portrait? I would think both of you should be in the engagement photo.
Kara_kw
07-31-2007, 01:24 PM
QOD - Where are you planning on going on your honeymoon?? Or where are you hoping to go???
I think FH and I are thinking anywhere down south...but the timing isnt great for prime weather so we may just take a weekend getaway somewhere nearby...rent a cottage or something, and then take our "real" honeymoon later. I really don't know though, we may end up going somewhere right away since that would be our first choice...
How about you ladies?
Kathy
07-31-2007, 01:31 PM
Well, I think we're going to just stay in a hotel our wedding night. FH is a teacher, and our date is the Saturday before he goes back to school after holiday break, so we can't go away for a week (it's in his contract - he can't really extend school vacations). So ... we're thinking of post-poning the honeymoon til next summer, when we could take really as much time as we like. We're currently thinking of going to Denver, CO - that's where we pretty much had our first date, and we want to find that same little restaraunt and order the same thing we had then - clam pizza and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. We'd also like to maybe go hiking or camping one night as well, but we're not sure about other stuff.
Kathy
08-02-2007, 08:16 AM
Rosebud - A Hawaii honeymoon sounds amazing! That would be my dream vacation, so hopefully I'll get to go there someday :) And about how life comes up and could spoil our delayed HM plans ... we're already beginning to plan and save for it, plus it'll give me something to continue planning after the wedding, so hopefully life won't get too much in the way :)

I've been discussing this in my 2008 bride group on livejournal- Is anyone else tired of hearing "Wow! You are starting early" or "Why are you starting planning now? You have plenty of time!" from vendors/family?
the only vendor that hasn't said that to me is my photographer and she is glad that I am starting early!
Kathy
08-02-2007, 02:17 PM
Actually I like hearing people say stuff like that, it makes me feel like an over-achiever  And when people ask why I started early, all I said was "I have more time to research my options and get better prices" which tends to either shut them up or get more praises :) All of our vendors thought it was great that we started early!
Kara_kw
08-03-2007, 09:00 AM
I couldn't agree more Kathy! It does get old to hear sometimes, but I like the fact that I have had time to shop around, reserach my vendors, AND have my choice of vendors in most cases! In my experience, it hasn't been the vendors saying "Why so early," but more my friends and family who think the whole thing could be pulled together in a few short months! I respond the same way you do, only adding to that, the fact that I'm a full-time student in the fall and wont have the time to do wedding reseach...I wanted to get all of the "big" stuff done so during the school year I can use the little details asexcuse for a study break!
Kathy
08-03-2007, 10:57 AM
I actually was able to get most of the big things done while still in school. I was lucky, though, because my job was in a very non-strict office and I was able to get on MLW or other wedding sites to get ideas while I was at work. I'll also admit that I skipped a class during the first week back after holiday break in order to try on dresses  (but it was worth it, since I found THE dress and passed the class :D). I also daydreamed a lot during certain classes, and that's when I decided on the theme, thought of locations, and that kind of stuff (and yes, I passed that class as well! :kimgrill:).
Kara_kw
08-03-2007, 11:26 AM
That's hilarious! I fully expect to daydream while in class...often...:giggle:
I couldnt resist the opportunity to get the big stuff done over the summer. My summer job is very laid back at times, and I spend a lot of time on MLW and other wedding sites too!
Kathy
08-03-2007, 12:45 PM
I even have doodles of cakes in my notes!
Since we got engaged in mid-July, right after FH got hired to a new job and I was beginning my senior year, we held off on the actual getting-things-done part of the planning until about December. And then I went hog-wild ordering things on ebay! :kimgrill: In fact, the first things purchased - before even booking the church or country club - were my garters :D
I just wanted to say hi... and I'm here, sort of.... I have only skimmed through this thread.
But yeah, I figured I'd poke my head in here....
Kara_kw
08-07-2007, 08:33 AM
:laugh3: That's too funny about the cake doodles in your notebooks! I am also a frequent "doodle-er" during class so I can only imagine what my notes will look like this year!
Before Adam and I had even set a date, I had purchased fabric for my BM's dresses! I didn't have a pattern picked out OR a seamstress to make them....I just saw the fabric, fell in love with it, searched for a pattern that I loved, and bought oodles of fabric! I had no idea how to read the pattern to find out how much I needed, so I guessed and ended up with way too much but I'll find ways to use it!! It was definetely impulsive, but I loved it and I worried that someone else would snatch it if I didnt jump on it!

New QOD: Have you started looking for THE DRESS yet? Or have you already found it? Share your try-on plans/stories!
Myself...I'm going for my first try-on this this Thursday!!! Details/pics to come!
Kathy
08-07-2007, 11:07 AM
Rosebud - I bought the garters first because they were the first thing I found on ebay  I thought they were pretty, matched the theme, and they were pretty cheap, so I bought them!
QOD - I bought my dress back in January! It was my first appointment for trying gowns, and it was about the 10th one I tried on. I knew it was "the one" when the sales woman was carrying it over to me! As soon as I saw it I started taking off the dress I had on, before even getting into the dressing room  The one she gave me was actually in the wrong size (she'd forgotten to look at the size) so she went back to find one in my size and well, I fell in love with it the moment I put it on. :kimgrill: It didn't need any altering, and I was able to bring it home with me that day. I also brought home the shoes (which I knew I wanted before even trying on a dress!), crinoline, and bra. They tried selling me a veil and tiara too, but I knew I'd find a better deal on ebay (which I did :) ).
I don't have the time right now to repost the pictures (we're off to Men's Wearhouse to find tuxes!), but I do have pictures in my first planning journal (http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2390) :)

I went to David's Bridal back in January or so to do try ons (at the time my date was November). I had a bad experience with my sales lady (too pushy/overwelming) and I ended up just focusing on other parts of the wedding. I do want to go dress shopping again but it will probably be September before I get a chance.
I do know my dress will have color though! My mom and I agree on that!

I was supposed to go last night to try-on dresses last night, but we had to re-schecule. I'm actually more excited now though, because my best friend (MOH) is able to come with us now.
QOD: Before trying dresses on, did you have inspiration pics? Or a set style in mind?? feel free to share pics!
Kathy
08-10-2007, 11:39 AM
I had loads of ideas!! The week of my appointment I shuffled through all of the dresses on the David's Bridal website to pinpoint the ones I wanted to try on. I essentially knew what I wanted - strapless and A-line - but the one I chose had much more beading and detail than I thought I wanted. I also learned what fabrics I liked and disliked - particularly that I didn't like anything with flimsy overlays.
For a bit of an idea, these were the dresses that I really really liked, prior to trying anything on:
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/mellokat/DavidsCT221.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/mellokat/DavidsCV190.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/mellokat/DavidsV8820.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/mellokat/DavidsV9202.jpg
Now this is the picture of my dress on the model - it totally didn't catch my eye at all!!
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n303/mellokat/davidsdress.jpg
And here it is on me :)

3 more days until my try-on adventure!! Still no inspirations though... haha I like the sweet-heart neckline because it mimics my BM's dresses, but I'm not stuck on it....as long as I feel pretty and I can dance in it I think I'll be ok!!

Any 2008-ers home?
brideof09
08-21-2007, 02:43 PM
Hi. I'm a 2009 bride with no home (in the group chat, that is). Will this board adopt me? :)
dolface546
08-21-2007, 07:45 PM
Of course we will!
QOD: What kind of food are you thinking about for the reception?
brideof09
08-21-2007, 09:08 PM
Simple foods. My family has always said you could make a meal out of appetizers.... So i'm leaning more towards appetizers such as chicken quesodillas, spring rolls, mini crab cakes, salads, dips, fries, onions, etc. We plan on spending the majority of our reception money on the bar, since most of our family are bigger on the DRINKING part of it than the eating part. Does that make sense?
Kara_kw
08-22-2007, 08:37 AM
Brideof09 consider yourself adopted! This thread can alwasy use some TLC!
QOD: We are also serving mostly appetizers. We're having an evening reception with a dance, so its important to use to feed people, but also encourage mingling and having fun. We're planning on serving, satays, cocktail shrimp, spring rolls, etc., pretty much any yummy finger foods will do. Plus we're having fruit kabobs with dipping sauce and chocolate fountain.
brideof09
08-22-2007, 11:51 AM
Thanks, guys!
We're not wanting to spend an arm and a leg on the reception, but I have a feeling we're going to just in alcohol! His family is BIG on drinking.
Kara_kw
08-22-2007, 02:32 PM
My family is a social drinking family, and FH's family doesn't drink....at all, which is perfectly fine. Just because there is a bar, doesn't mean they have to drink from it, there will obviously be non-alcoholic drinks too!
QOD: Just curious, because people ask me all the time, "Are you having a big wedding" WHAT IS CONSIDERED BIG? How many guests are you inviting?
We're inviting about 140- 150 to ours.
brideof09
08-22-2007, 03:18 PM
I only WISH ours was 140-150 people! We're 2 years away from the wedding and with just family/family friends invited (no friends yet, we'll do that closer to time, plus in the next 2 years people are sure to have kids, gain SOs, whatever, we're up to 250-300 people! By the time 2009 rolls, we might be looking at 400-500 people. So I'm not sure when you cross the line from intimate to BIG.
dolface546
08-22-2007, 04:19 PM
Our list right now is *finds post-it the number is written on* 176.
On some bridal shows they make 200 seem like a big number (those lovely words like "a whopping 200 guests") but I don't know either.
Okay it's been a bit since I've been in here, and I'm gonna go through and answer a bunch of the QODs that have come up....
Let's try this...a little QOD:
How far in advance did you start planning?? What have you booked/finished already??
The first thing that we did was pick the date, June 7th. We knew we'd be all set with the DJ (my "brother") and the cake (my dad), so those were easy. Back in May, we booked the location for the ceremony and reception - it was important for us to have everything in one place. Next week I'm working out details with my bro, and working on photographers. I've tried on dresses once.... but that's another question later.
Just to make sure this thread stays active....here's another QOD:
How involved has your FH been in the planning??
Not very, but a little bit.
Just curious....are any of you having a bar/liquor at your wedding but having one set of parents taking issue with it?
My parents are kinda meh about having a bar/liquor, but FH's parents have made an amazing offer that I happen to like a lot. We are going to have an open bar for the first hour, and then it will be a cash bar. I like this compromise.
QOD: Are any of you getting engagement photos done? Or have done so already??
There's a possibility, but I don't think it will be happening unless it is included in our photography package.
QOD - Where are you planning on going on your honeymoon?? Or where are you hoping to go???
We will be going to Orlando, Florida, for two weeks. We will stay in a hotel close to the airport on our wedding night, then fly down. Another amazing hook-up from his parents is the use of their time-share opportunities for two weeks. We'll be doing DisneyWorld, Universal, and HOPEFULLY the baseball schedule will work out so that we can see the Red Sox play the Devil Rays. ;) We'll see about that one though.
No, I haven't heard that, everyone keeps saying they are surprised I/we haven't done more!
Also, I'm on livejournal, what is the group?
New QOD: Have you started looking for THE DRESS yet? Or have you already found it? Share your try-on plans/stories!
I went trying-on once, and I think I have an idea of what I want. It's an Alfred Angelo, I think it's number 1416 or something like that? It's in my planning journal....
QOD: Before trying dresses on, did you have inspiration pics? Or a set style in mind?? feel free to share pics!
That info is pretty much in my planning journal... I didn't have too much in mind though..... And I still have to upload the pics! Probably next week or so.
QOD: What kind of food are you thinking about for the reception?
Not sure yet, I will definitely be having chicken, I know that.
QOD: Just curious, because people ask me all the time, "Are you having a big wedding" WHAT IS CONSIDERED BIG? How many guests are you inviting?
I think we're inviting between 100-130. Which is more than my dad wants to have (85), but I don't think all the invites will be coming. I'm hoping not.
Kathy
08-26-2007, 05:30 PM
Let's see, the two newest questions ...
Regarding size, we're inviting about 225, expecting about 190, and I do not think that is big at all. I think big would consist of at least 300 in attendance, but that even depends on the size of your family, I think.
And for food, we are having:
Rosemary and Garlic Chicken
Vegetarian Lasagna
Herb and Garlic Roasted Red Potatoes
Fresh Veggie Medley
Salad with dressings
Rolls with butter
Our dinner will be buffet style, and I think we're planning on providing our own coffee. Both Brian and I love coffee, especially a little shop in our town, so I'd like to show our interest by offering our favorite coffees from that shop :)
Kara_kw
08-27-2007, 07:47 AM
Love the coffe idea!! what a neat way to showcase something you both enjoy!
So in the middle of the night, I totally had an amazing QOD.
This was the other night, though, and I've had hardly any access here lately.
So of course, I forget what it was. :shakefist:

:doh:THINK, THINK, THINK!! I've run out of ideas too...hmmm....
Anyone? QOD? Chit-chat?
Can I jump in?
My DH & I are renewing our vows next summer on our fifth anniversary!! :heee:

QOD: Are you doing/done E pics? If so share them (if you want) or tell us when you are planning on having them.
My FH and I are doing it in October (woot for leaves changing and sweaters! Plus we can use those for Christmas cards!), we are actually just going to have his sister do them in his parents yard and have our photog take more pics on the wedding day.
Kara_kw
08-29-2007, 10:52 AM
We're doing ours next month to get the fall colours too! Ours were included in our photographer's package, I might not have done them otherwise, but I'm glad we decided to!

Oh and :hiya: Jen!! Welcome and please help us revive this thread!!!!
We had my best friend take e-pics at the University I was attending. Absolutely Gorgeous campus!!
Here's a couple of my favorites. Sorry about the crappy quality, this was before digital cameras were so popular!

Love the pics! We're actually having our post-ceremony pictures done at my university campus! It's gorgeous there, and there are so many neat places to snap photos!
Love the puppy too!!
Kathy
08-29-2007, 06:31 PM
We're doing ours in October, too, definitely because of the fall colors. I'm not sure where we're doing them yet - I wanted to go to my college campus, but we'd have to pay our photographer extra for the distance. We might got to Brian's college instead, or the park where Brian's brother got married last summer. It was really pretty, so it would totally work :)
We mailed off our contract & deposit for the photographer last night!!

:woot: for booking the photographer!! We FINALLY booked a DJ this week, it's been a nightmare trying to find a decent one!

Married: July 19, 2008

09-27-2007, 10:24 AM
I haven't been in here in awhile, so welcome Beth!
Here's a new QOD: What's next on your to-do list?
For me, I'm continuing to work on our DIY invitations, hoping to start getting the envelopes addressed in the next week or so, and our engagement pics are coming up on the 7th.
Kara_kw
09-27-2007, 10:34 AM
Welcome Beth!!
Yay for a new QOD!!
Next on my list: Engagement photos next week!! Following after that is a meeting with the decorator, and a meeting at the Chapel.
dolface546
09-27-2007, 11:22 AM
Turning in my budget to my dad so we can give our deposit to the photographer, then scheduling our E-pics (sometime in November)
Hmmm, next on the To-Do list is probably to find a dress for me. I don't plan to do that until December or January though. I still need to find someone local to make us a nice cake.
hellobethie
09-28-2007, 02:26 PM
Hmmm. Next on my todo list is to work on confirming our band, and opening a joint "wedding bank account" and getting a reward filled credit card, as we can put the reception all on credit we might as well get some air miles or aeroplan or something!!
I also need to find out where to order my dress for the best price....
QOD:
Photographer and dress!!!!
Kathy
10-16-2007, 01:11 PM
How's everyone doing on their to-do lists?
We had e-pics on the 7th, and while it was waaaay too hot for October, I think the session went well! We're supposed to get our proof CD sometime this week :)
I'm still working on my invites ... the craft store downtown is really crappy on restocking the glue that I started using, so I've had to make do with several different kinds of glue. I have about 2.5 weeks to finish them and get the envelopes addressed and stamped ... they go out on Nov. 3rd!!
Also, we finalized our flowers, which is fantastic. And one of my BMs has started planning my shower, which will be on my birthday! So that's fantastic as well!!
So how are y'all coming on your never-ending lists??
Kara_kw
10-18-2007, 12:48 PM
Kathy - you are making awesome progress!! I love hearing your plans because you have the first 2008 wedding on MLW (as far as I can recall) and it just makes everything seem so close! (Not to scare you - you are certainly on track!)
We had our e-pics done, a week ago exactly, and I'm waiting for the photographer to post them on his site!! (I'll be sure to post a link in my journal!)
:shuffle: Kathy, do we get to see yours?!?!
Other than the pics, I booked my florist and "cake-lady" last week, which was a huge load off of my chest. Next week I meet with the decorator to talk BUDGET....such a scary word....
Hope all of your plans are going well - THANK YOU KATHY for once again trying to revive this thread!! Come on 08-ers!
Kathy
10-18-2007, 12:53 PM
I'll definitely post my e-pics, I'm waiting to get the proof CD in the mail. She said it'd take about 2 weeks, which is Saturday, so we'll see.
I think I am the first 08 wedding, and while I'm a little stressed with things right now (like 2 of my BMs not communicating with me!!), I'm mostly excited that it's getting so close. One of my BMs is starting to plan the bridal shower, for November 25th (my birthday!) so that definitely makes it seem closer
That's great that you've gotten your florist and cake lady booked, those are two pretty big things! Hopefully your meeting with the decorator goes well, and you're able to stay within budget :)
Kara_kw
10-19-2007, 10:22 PM
That's exciting about your shower Kathy! What a bonus that it's your birthday too - I'm sure it will be such a fun day!!
hellobethie
10-20-2007, 02:58 AM
Kathy- your progress is awesome. I hope people start to communicate soon! And I agree your efforts to try and get us united are awesome. I hope more come out of the woodwork. There must be more people getting married next year!
My to do list, well it's there, we booked our marriage prep, early because of the three churches that have to be involved, (the one where D is a member, where he was baptized and the one where we're getting married). SO that starts next month. Umm, I am having a hilarious dress drama unfold in my journal, and that has sort of kick started me out of a wedding slump that I was in, which I think is good.
I just realized it is 9 months today til we get married!!! I don't know if that's exciting or terrifying. Both I Think!!
I think we'll be getting e-pics at Christmas when we are in the same place as our photographer! And that's when we'll do flowers too. And anything else I can think of that we have to be there for. You know along with christmas!!
I need need to contact my decorator and day of coordinator to firm up details (same person) of what we're hiring him for, good thing you said that Kara!

*BUMP*
QOD: Are you serving a full meal at your reception? Hors d'eouvres? Desserts instead?
Kara_kw
10-25-2007, 09:47 AM
To answer my own QOD: Our wedding is in the evening, with the reception starting around 8pm. We've decided to serve hot hors d'eouvres, plus we're having some fruit kebabs, and other finger-food style items.
...and Cake of course!
Kathy
10-25-2007, 09:53 AM
Our reception is at 6pm, so we're having a full dinner. It's going to be a buffet, and we're having herb roasted chicken, vegetarian lasagna, herb & garlic roasted red potatoes, vegetable medley, salad, and rolls. We're only having one dessert, the cake, but it has a few different flavors so everyone should be happy.
dolface546
10-25-2007, 10:10 AM
My time is 3:00 and we will be having a cocktail buffet.
Our ceremony is at noon, the reception is scheduled 12:30-5:30, so we'll serve a full meal.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Does anyone else feel that the 2008 section of the board doesn't get much love? Like, I kinda feel that the 2007 brides got tons of attention and journal love, but we're kinda lacking.... I don't know, maybe it's just me being stupid?
Kathy
10-26-2007, 08:31 AM
Maybe it'll change once it's actually 2008? That'll give everyone 5 days to get excited for me  But I totally know what you're saying Bri, it can get a little lonely over there.
Kara_kw
10-26-2007, 12:37 PM
:word: it can definetely get lonesome! Hopefully Kathy's right, and the new year will introduce some new 2008-ers to keep us company! And I think the board Moderators are keen on attracking some newbies, so that should help!
We've all tried to revive this thread a number of times to no avail.... we need to nurture it together!! haha Keep it going ladies!
Kathy- any word on your e-pics?! I'm still waiting for mine...
ANYONE WITH A QOD?!
Kathy
10-26-2007, 12:42 PM
Haven't received the CD yet, maybe today in the mail? I've already gotten some bad news today, so I really don't want to be disappointed by not getting the pics today.
Kathy
11-12-2007, 01:40 PM
So I should be getting my untouched e-pics this week ... :whoop:
I sent the invitations out on Saturday, which deserves another :whoop:
Next up will be my shower on the 25th, my hair trial eventually, and my first dress fitting on Dec. 1st.
What's up next for everyone else?
Kara_kw
11-12-2007, 06:51 PM
Wedding-wise I'm at a stand still until I finish writing my finals in December. Although I hate to admit it, school trumps wedding plans for the time being (until my last exam on Dec 10th :giggle: ).
:crossfing: Coming up: my dress is supposed to arrive in December!! I can't wait to put it on again and see how it looks! It will be nice to try on "my" dress, not the one in the store.
The next big thing on my to-list (in the new year) will be making my invites...
Kathy - cant wait to see the e-pics!
dolface546
11-14-2007, 10:15 AM
My epics are this Saturday, I'm very excited. I also have had several people advise me as to who to cater (my last huge desicion). Yay!
Kathy
11-14-2007, 10:32 AM
Kara - that's exciting that you get your dress soon! Do you know what you want to do for your invitations yet?
Garland - I hope you have fun with your e-pics this weekend! We had a blast doing ours, and it was great to really get a feel for how the photographer works. Also, it'll be such a relief once you pick a caterer, since food is such a huge part of the reception.
Kara_kw
11-14-2007, 07:08 PM
Kathy - yes I do!! :) I actually ordered the materials online over the summer, but just recently decided on the final design.
They are quite simple, but I dread the amount of time they will take to put together! I plan on starting them after finals since I have a full 4 weeks off!!
Garland - I hope you have fun with your epics! I agree with Kathy, FH and I had a great time with ours. We just let loose and had fun with it!
I put the deposit down on my dress yesterday!!!!!

11-17-2007, 05:25 PM
Hey! I am still here. I just realized I wasn't subbed to this thread and so thought it had no action!!:dope:
I am ordering my dress next week, late I know, or at least so the bridal stores keep telling me. 8 months does not seem late to me:dunno:
We just had our first marriage prep this morning. It was interesting and not to heavy on the Catholic doctrine, which was nice. I am not sure it will stay that way, but they seem to acknowledge that there are a number of non catholics in the crowd (including me!)
We just got the address list for Dave's side of the family from his sister who got married in September, and we're trying to figure out what we need to do when we're in Edmonton in December. We're going to revisit our todo list at some point today and figure out what next and prioritize etc.
I also hope there are more brides that unearth themselves, as I don't know very many people getting married in RL either, as most of them seem to be married, single, or not interested in getting married ever. All of which are valid, but it would be nice to have more people going through what you're going through!
I wonder why that is...why 2008 seems like less of a wedding year...anybody got any thoughts?
hellobethie
11-17-2007, 05:46 PM
Good to know! I think they just like to pressure you into making the sale. But hearing that makes me less anxious.
You're probably right about the weddings. Hopefully they will start coming out of the woodwork here!
Kara_kw
11-17-2007, 07:32 PM
Yay for ordering/paying deposits on dresses!
I remember feeling "early" when I first started looking for mine; then in every store they would tell me that soon it would be too late. My wedding is in May and I ordered my dress at the very end of August! That's nine months!
I didn't feel rushed to buy- because I LOVE my dress, but I still had a hard time believing that 9 months before the wedding was "late"!
Yeah I'm just over 6 months out and just ordered it... I do know that's late, buuuut... I counted out 12 weeks and I'll still have time. There shouldn't be TOO many alterations needed, I maintain my size fairly well. So I'm not gonna stress about it.
hellobethie
11-18-2007, 11:57 AM
And this is why we have gossip and gab!!! Thanks ladies. I was starting to feel anxious about it, and now I am going to relax a bit. Thanks ladies!
Kathy
11-19-2007, 10:47 AM
Kara - I started working on wedding stuff last year at Christmas break, it's so nice to have several weeks without to school to worry about! I'm kinda jealous, though, we only had 3 weeks off! :wink1:
Bri - congrats on putting down the deposit!! You must be soo freaking excited!! :excited:
Beth - I don't think you're too late at all in ordering your dress. I bought mine a year in advance, and that was definitely TOO FAR in advance. I'm now dealing with the funness of alterations because I've gained weight :(
dolface546
11-19-2007, 01:20 PM
I'm almost 6 months and haven't gotten my dress yet, I was waiting until the next David's Sale but it probably won't be until after New Years and I want to be all ordered and done with by then!
E-pics were great! The photographer said I should have them by Wednesday but if they aren't up on her site by then they will be up Monday (she sends them to a lab so I'm at the mercy of the lab!!)

11-19-2007, 06:03 PM
I feel like it is starting to become more real now that the holidays are here.
I bought my dress in September, I got really lucky and got it off the rack for half price. It is going to have a corsett so there shouldn't be many alterations.
I have started looking at florists and photographers but haven't made a decision yet. I liked the florist I talked to alot but she was a little bit expensive so I am hoping we can get her to come down on the price.

MY DRESS CAME IN! MY DRESS CAME IN!!! YAY!!!!
The next few months are going to be crazy busy wedding planning, so I'll have lots to chat about :)
FH and I had our marriage prep course and the councillor actually said that we were one of the most compatible and advanced couples he had seen in his 23 year career. I think he was really surprised by the fact that we had already read several books on relationships and making successful marriages and that we had taken a communication course together. That, and the fact that some of the other couples were nuts and spent half the course fighting. ;)
I admit, despite my 'anti-bride' sentiments, I'm getting pretty excited for February. :)

Well it's been awhile, but I figured I'd give an update on what's going on right now :)
Had the bridal shower the weekend after Thanksgiving, which was super fun. I had my hair trial and dress fitting last weekend. We've scheduled the bachellorette party for Friday the 21st. I'm on top of confiriming EVERYTHING. My florist friend ordered the flowers today. I'm getting a few RSVPs each day, and I've stopped caring about uninvited "and guests."
I'm learning that no matter how long you have to plan - like 18 months - the last month is still insane.

I called my cake people the other day to get an interview and they said their wedding lady just had surgery and will be back at the end of JANUARY. The thing is this place is HIGHLY recommended so I wasn't planning on looking elsewhere. I'll call back in January and hopefully my day will still be open!

12-07-2007, 11:36 AM
I am ordering my dress today!! That's my big news!
Yay for getting so close and being so organized Kathy, and Garland I really hope your cake place comes through, but I would maybe think about some preliminary back up plans just so you don't freak out if the date is gone!
Kathy
12-07-2007, 12:09 PM
Garland, if it makes you feel any better, January really isn't that far away, so if you do decide not to look elsewhere, you really don't have to wait very long.
Yay for ordering your dress, Beth!! I hope we get to see some pics!!
I pretty much have to be organized now  With only 28 days until the rehearsal - which is really the last day I can change my mind about anything - I can't really afford to be scatterbrained!!!
Kara_kw
12-07-2007, 09:44 PM
Kathy I hope you realize that the rest of the 08'ers are living vicariously through you right now!! Your WD is so close - its exciting!
Garland - I totally agree with what both girls said. January isn't very far, but it never hurts to have a back up plan.
Beth - that is so exciting! I'm with kathy...pics please!!
As for my big news....I have none! haha I am done exams tomorrow so maybe after that I will have time to conquer wedding stuff. I have LOTS to do over the holiday - start making invites, my first dress fitting (it should be here any time in the next few weeks) and a bunch of minor organization stuff - so stay tuned ladies!

So it hit today that it's almost 2008...
So enjoy every minute of it! Start at midnight Jan 1! For the rest of our lives we will refer back to 08. People will ask when you got married, and you will be able to say 08. The anniversaries start here again.
Kathy, I think even though you're married by the 5th, you should still take advantage of your wedding year and savour it!!
Just in case I don't get in here right at New Years, I wanted to say Happy Year of Our Weddings!
Merry Christmas as well, and I look forward to sharing this year with all of you and hopefully the many many new brides that will join the board!!
2008 should be a great year!

Well, 2008 is officially in full swing - we've got two weeks under our belts already! - so how are all you 08 brides doing on your planning? I obviously had my wedding already, and I definitely miss the planning. I'm looking forward to getting our pro pics so that I can put together a couple of albums. Also, I'm lucky to have a friend planning a 2009 wedding, and I'm actually meeting up with her next month to share some tricks of the trade. I told her about MLW forever ago, but she's a social work grad student and doesn't have much time for internetting. So I'm looking forward to living vicariously through her, as well as the rest of you :)

I'm doing better, hopefully FINISHING the registry tomorrow, it is taking forever!
Right now invites are my main thing, finding cheap ones that I actually LIKE is key. Sadly my mom is hung up on getting them on Hallmark (expensive!) so I'm trying to talk her back down!

Yikes. I'm thinking about going to start registering tomorrow...why is it taking forever??
How is everybody elses registering going? Where are you registering? (So I can live vicariously through the many american options!!!)

Registering was relatively easy for us. We spent a Saturday at Target and Bed Bath & Beyond, beeping things we thought we might like, then made changes later online. We have similar tastes, plus we did divide and conquer a bit - he found kitchen stuff since he cooks the most and I chose the bedding, since that's what I really wanted.

I was going to register at Target but heard a LOT of bad things about their registry and return policy so Bed Bath and Beyond is our place. BEST return policy I've seen!

I loved going through Target! They even let us do a return without a receipt for something that wasn't even on our registry.

I registered at Macy's and Target. My mom insisted on Macy's because she said if I got the right stuff it would last for the rest of my life. She still has several things from her wedding 47 years ago. FH and I did the big things, but he got bored and restless after about an hour. I went back with my mom when she was visiting and did the rest of the small stuff. I have already gotten my pots and pans, nice dishes and spice rack. I thought it was silly at first but it really is nice getting new fancy stuff.
Is anyone else having that "oh sh!t!" feeling?
Or is it just me?

How much do you still have to do, Bri? I started feeling like that at about the month mark, I think, but it totally depends on what stuff you have left to do.

ME TO BRI! But it's mostly because my school is STILL on strike and since my wedding is in May, I can't exactly afford for them to extend the semester very far! I'm definetely starting to panic!

Yuck, Kara, that's awful! I hope everything gets straightened out soon, and that you're out of school before your wedding!!

I'm there, in part because my master plan had a broken ankle thrown in and my in my head schedule of tasks has been thrown out the window....

Ummmm Bridesmaids dresses are the major major thing to do.
We're a little late on it, but we're sending out STDs (:teehee:) anyway. They were actually delivered to me today but I have to sign for them....
Still have to do invitations, though I'm thinking I'm going to DIY them.
Tuxes.
STILL have to call/email the videographer, but I did find out he is holding the date for us. (Hooray for my brother's connections.)
My dress should be here any day now, and then the altering will begin.
Need my undergarments before it can be altered!
Hmmm.....

I am almost at the two month mark and I am starting to get really nervous. I think that I am pretty much on schedule but the whole thing is starting to freak me out.

I am also starting to freak out because I have so much else going on as well and I have just under two more months than you...I am sure you will be great and that you have everything under control...is there any thing specific that is setting you off??

The invitations. They are here, being put togtether this weekend and going out on Monday. The list is terrifying me because when I sent out the save the dates we had a lot of problems. I had about 6 get returned to me and when I double checked the addresses they were correct. We also had problems with enough postage because there was a magnet and the wedding planner claimed it took like 3 weeks to get them out because of postage issues. I am having her put them together but I am taking then to the post office myself so I am 100% sure everything is done right.

We just put all the invites in the mail tonight, with the exceptions of some of my friends and FH's friends. Luckily my mom did all the work, I just sat with a sponge and sealed them all!
We got our rings last week, very exciting!!
Our invites are going out a week from today - Saturday 3/29, which will be our 10 week mark! :jawdrop:
I finally went and tried on my dress, there are hardly any alterations that will be done! :twirl:

We sent out the invitations on Tuesday and people are starting to call and say how great they look. There are still a few more to send out but I feel much better now.

I agree - it feels really good to get the invites out, what a relief!!

By the way - do you all have pics of your completed invites?

Ours went out last Sunday. A couple we used to double with all the time called from Ohio to say they got theirs. We still have some friends to send but a majority of the invites are out.
I got my first plates yesterday, I had forgotten how cute our pattern is! My grandmother caught them on sale. I also got a present from FH's grandma's bridge group. I was amused....
Anyone else get presents yet?

Okay. Everyone else is getting married in May and June correct? Or is already married (Kathy ;)) So the fact that you all have your invitations out, and I can not get my church to commit to a time, so I can even ORDER my invitations should not be freaking me out yet, right????? RIGHT!!!
I got an invitation to a wedding on June 14th 2 weeks ago and nearly had a heart attack...they are 5 weeks after us. I think I"m okay!
We have about 80 per cent of our addresses. I have a stash to transfer from our database, but I have to say, not having them ordered is keeping me up at night. Boo on the church...is Easter over yet?

I agree!!!!
Our invites went our last Sunday, getting the call from our friend's in Ohio that they had the invite was exciting!
Well I lost the RSVP battle. My mother said we didn't need them because everoyone coming would call and say they were or ask where we are registered. I countered with the "caterer needs a number" arguement and variations thereof but nothing worked......
Apparently FH's grandmother called FMIL and was like "where is the RSVP card?! Who sends invites with no RSVP info?!"
Checking in on everyone, since I don't get to visit everyone's journals...

Can you believe it has almost been a year? Sometimes I feel like it was yesterday and then sometimes I feel like I have been married forever.

It's been over a year for me! It feels like forever (in a good way, most of the time  ) but sometimes it definitely feels like it was just yesterday that we got married. Especially with so many weddings coming up IRL!
