View Full Version : Pajamas and Coffee Theme?

I will be Matron of Honour for Sister the first weekend in April. Another bridesmaid and I will host her shower in February at the BM's home because I live in another city. I've asked Sister twice now for ideas about her theme and this is what she wants:
- pink and brown decorations to go with wedding colours -check!
- gifts around a coffee theme
- to wear her pajamas
Honestly, I'm not surprised that Sister wants to wear her pajamas. She has multiple health problems and somehow manages to work almost fulltime in a very stressful job. She was homebound for three years until recently and she is very, very tired.
Any ideas on how we can work a pajama theme into a propper bridal shower that will include co-workers, friends, and old great-aunties? Would it be appropriate to invite guests to wear their pjs or loungewear to a Sunday afternoon affair?

I just have to say that this sounds awesome. Maybe have it at a bunch hour - like 10-11 AM - instead of the afternoon, and serve brunch-y foods and coffee and/or tea. And I think inviting guests to wear pjs/loungewear sounds fantastic. I wish my BMs had thought of this!!

You could also combine it with the bachelorette party and just make the whole thing a sleepover, or at least sleepover themed. Mani/pedis, popcorn and pizza, and silly games would be super fun. The great-aunties part would kind of depend on their personality-- my grant aunts would be all about it, but I could see where some people might be put off. It sounds like a blast to me though!

And as Kate said, maybe after the shower was over (and the great-aunties and such left) then you could have a "Slumber party"-themed celebration with her close friends, or even just BMs.
I know a lot of people who do at-home spa-like parties (Mary Kay, for example, or Avon, or Arbonne :giggle:) - maybe you could do that for the BMs after the shower?
Lacy had a good point though - I would poll the audience. While I think it's a GREAT idea, and would definately come pajama-pants clad, obviously there would be those that wouldn't feel comfortable. If family/important shower guests aren't up to it, could you save the pajama aspect for another celebration?

Thanks for your ideas, ladies!
I'm all over the brunch foods.
How late in the day could brunch be? Noon? 1 PM? The date we've chosen is a Sunday, and we need to allow for Sister's MIL -- and a few others -- to go to church first.
What if the invitations said the theme was "Pajamas and Coffee" and that guests were encouraged to wear their fuzzy slippers, lounge wear or PJs? Would that allow a range of attire choices for the guests? In the wintertime I think even a propper great-aunty would put fuzzy slippers on after removing her boots. I intend to buy a new, pink bathrobe and matching slippers for sister.

You could even hand out fuzzy slippers as favors!

I think a Sunday brunch could certainly be held around noon or 1!

120% it could...people who didn't go to church would probably be getting up late anyway, and who doesn't love brunch?

Yeah, we have brunch sometimes at 2:00 in the afternoon. An egg casserole dish is always good and feeds a large quantity. Add some bacon or sausage, some sweet rolls, cheesy potato dish, fresh fruit, juices, coffees, hot teas...maybe a chocolate fountain?

Oh, Diane, you are such a lifesaver! My sister has been put back onto a gluten-free diet and so I wondered what we were going to feed her! An egg casserole with bacon and sausage is perfect! (She's also asked for peanut butter marshmallow squares and rice crispy cakes. LOL)

Oops. No-go on egg casserole. Sister is also egg-free and cheese-free again. I may have to feed her meat and potatoes while everyone else has brunch.
Here is a draft wording of the invitation. Thoughts?

I love that theme. May have to steel the idea for the two showers that I may be planning soon!

Thanks, ladies. The guests will be told the theme is “Breakfast in Bed”. Any other ideas for favours? Decorations?

Something to do with pillows... you could have people decorate pillow cases for the bride, or personalize some and give them out as favors. Ooh! Better, and way less weird. You could give out aromatherapy sleep masks as favors. Like these (http://www.dreamessentials.com/a_mask_deluxe.aspx), only not for $25 per mask. I saw a pattern in a magazine on how to sew them the other day though-- super easy and cheap. Eye pillows (http://www.peepersleepers.com/lavendar.html)would be even easier to sew.

Kate, those are all great. Thanks.
I need to rethink the name of the event.
It was going to be "Breakfast in Bed" and held at Noon or 1 pm, with me serving brunch. However, the guest list grew and grew (but my budget can't) and so I thought about making it a pot luck, but I am really not comfortable with asking people I don't know well to bring food AND presents.
If the shower can be at 2pm, in between meals, then I can provide a light tea with no problems. Sister still wants to wear her pajamas, though. So...
What clever name could we call a mid-Sunday-afternoon party at which the guest of honour will be wearing her fuzzy slippers and the guests are invited to do the same?
