I just read the Christmas challenge. I figured now would be a good time to start a Valentines day Challenge. I know it is a short time (6 weeks) but its still enough time to make some changes!

I am so totally in.
How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose?
I would love to loose at least 5 pounds and about 5 inches
What are your exercise plans & goals?
I plan on working out at Curves 3 times a week. And the other 4 times a week I plan on using my elliptical machine.
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome?
I would love to beable to drink more water....thats a big problem with me, but I know I can do it. My main weakness is anything junk food related. I eat it all.
What are your diet goals?
To eat smaller portions at supper time, and try not to eat anything after 8pm
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress?
I would love to not have any muffin top hanging over any jean that I wear. But if they just feel looser thats alright as well.

How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose? 5 pounds at a minimum
What are your exercise plans & goals? Work out at least 3 days a week at the gym and attend Weight Watcher meetings weekly
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome? Discipline with what I eat and stick to-it-ness.
What are your diet goals? Overall to lose 50 lbs......I'll take baby steps till that point...I'll celebrate 5 pounds and so on and so forth.
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress? Ummm...my jeans that are two sizes too small??
Good luck with this challenge ladies!! I hope with the Holidays past everyone can refocus on their weight loss goals and take the bull by the horns.
I know this is kinda sad but, watching the Jenny Craig Commericals of Valerie Bertanelli and how she says this year she doesn't have any weight loss goals for her New Years resolution.....I'd like to be there next year. That would be soooo exciting.

Yay!
How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose? I'd like to lose at least 5 pounds.
What are your exercise plans & goals? I want to get to the gym right after work, at least 3 days a week and work out at least one day a week on the weekend. I'm training for a 5K...so if I could get 8-10 miles in a week, I'd be a happy camper :)
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome? SNACKING! Whenever I get bored, I reach for something to snack on. My cravings are horrendous and vary between salt and sugary. I'm going to always keep a pack of gum with me so I can pop a piece when I'm feeling bored.
What are your diet goals? Go back to counting points, at least loosely. Also, concentrate on getting some good snacks in so I don't pig out at meals. Cut back on going out to eat!
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress? My bathing suit will be going with me to New Orleans in the first week of February...plus my favorite pair of jeans that are too tight right now.
I weighed in this morning and am going to weigh-in on Wednesdays :)

How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose? About 12 lbs.

What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome? chocolate! I'm completely addicted. And alcohol. I like a beer or glass of wine to unwind after a hard day.
What are your diet goals? to look good in my bikini for our honeymoon next month!

I'm in!!
I'm going to go w/ 6 pounds.
Food challenges is to know when I'm really hungry and when I need to just go get a drink of water or chew some gum. Stay away from chocolate and cookies.
I have a pair of jeans I bought that don't fit and I'd love to get in them comfortably.

I weighed myself last night and the scale said 200 pounds but this morning when I weighed again it said 195. Is it seriously possible to have your weight fluctuate 5 pounds in a day?

Absolutely! I know I weigh less in the mornings than I do in the evenings.
I guess its cause you can give your body time to rest overnight. Also... all the extra fluids you have in your body have time to be absorbed through your bloodstream and then move to your kidneys... which is why you usually have to use the restroom in the morning.

Count me in girls!!
How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose? 8 lbs
What are your exercise plans & goals? Try to work out 3-4 days a week
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome? I normally eat very little during the day, and then way overeat when I get home.
What are your diet goals? More water, eat more during the day so I'm not starving when I get home. I also need to cook more at home! (So quick meal ideas welcome ladies!)
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress? I'm in between jean sizes right now. The larger of the two sizes is too big, but the smaller size gives me that "muffin top". So I want the smaller of the two sizes to fit perfectly!

How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose? I think 5-6 lbs is a reasonable goal for that period of time.
What are your exercise plans & goals? I guess I should figure that out, huh? :giggle:
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome? I have to travel a lot for my job and eating on the road is hard, hard, hard.
What are your diet goals? I would like to weigh between 125-130. That is a good size 6 for me. Currently, I am at 143 but that is down from 165 in April last year.
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress? I think some of my jeans shrank the last time Mark washed them...

I feel like I'm doing ok so far. They are doing a potluck at work next year. I hate not to participate. But everyone is bring things I don't want to eat so I know even if I take in something healthy there's no way I'm going to be able to make a meal out of everything else.
Evenings are rough...I so want to snack right now.
I think I'll dig up my old weight loss journal and try to keep track of my daily food intake there.

I find it easy to use our slow cooker. I can throw whatever in there and its ready y 5-6 at night. I love doing roasts with potatoes in there, also boneless, skinless chicken in spagetti sauce is great. All you have to do is cook the noodles. There is also plenty of cook books out there for slow cookers.
You could also try some of those 15 minute receipes that Raychel Ray does. She has books out there to.
Just some ideas.

I'm really glad the holidays are done and overwith. :faint: It seemed like I was constantly being bombarded with food. :(
My husband and I joined WW last night together...so far so good. I can't wait to weight in next week. I hope the scale reflects something positive.
I'm going to join my gym's weight loss contest. It only costs $40.00 and will last 8 weeks. I figure a little more motivation never hurt anyone.
I wish you all success this weekend!!

Hey ladies.
Well this morning I got on my elliptical and did 1007 steps in 10:07 minutes. I thought that was pretty good. 100 steps per minute. I am a machine. I am thinking it might almost be time to up the steps, cause this last time I wasn't really breathing or sweating as hard as I usually am. But I am going to do the 1000 steps a few more times then up the amount.
I can't remember if I posted this before, but last week I signed up for Yoga classes. I have never done it before, so it should be interesting. I will let you know how it goes. I start a week from tomorrow. And the class runs for 10 weeks. I might like this, and want to continue doing it.
*Diane*
01-06-2008, 04:53 PM
I have a horrible fear of yoga. I am convinced that I will be doing some downward dog and pass gas or something.

:laugh3:
Nikki- I hope you like yoga! I did it for about 6 weeks last year..it was super relaxing!
So I've pinpointed another major weakness...CHEESE! I think I could eat cheese and chocolate for the rest of my life and be the happiest person you'd ever see! :lol2:
Tomorrow is the weigh-in day for a challenge I did at my gym. We got weighed about a month ago and the goal was to stay the same weight or lose during Christmas. If we did, our name got thrown into a pot for $$. I don't think I'm going to be weighing in  Way too much bad holiday eating!

Ok, today is going so so. I had some stuff I shouldn't have(3 whole wheat fig newtons) but nothing horrible. I took a walk before lunch(it's beautiful outside) and I feel so stuffed from lunch. I don't think I ate to much but I feel kinda yucky right now. I know I'll take another walk after work, hit the bike and maybe some pilates.
Sara~ GOOD LUCK!!

I seem to do really well during the week while I am at work, because I have to plan everything I am going to eat or drink for the day but on the weekends, I either don't eat, don't feel like cooking and don't drink enough. I need to figure out some way to keep me on a better routine on the weekend.
MsJessica07
01-07-2008, 12:55 PM
my mom's tip for when they were both working full time was to cook on Sunday for dinner the rest of the week. Ours is to make something that can last for more than one meal, i.e. lasagna with 8 servings, which'll last four meals, but doing different meals in between. Only cooking every other day is a lot better. Plus, with lasagna, I like it enough that I will eat it every time. We also only do veggie lasagna with no-fat/low-fat cheese and whole wheat noodles, so it's actually not terrible for you.
That's just an example of how we're dealing with the whole not having energy/time/patience to cook thing!
Deidre98
01-07-2008, 01:14 PM
The funny thing is my lack of energy doesn't come during the week, it comes on the weekends! Figure that one out!

I am really at a loss! During the work day I just am not hungry. I'm not hungry when I wake up, or at lunch. I'm normally so busy during the day, I just don't feel hungry. I at least try to force myself to eat something at lunch to keep my metabolism going. Whether I eat lunch or not, I am starving by the time I get home. Of course I normally overeat at dinner due to this. Any suggestions on how to change this??
*Diane*
01-07-2008, 07:47 PM
Amy, you might try eating some protein in the morning. I have found that it keeps me more on keel through the day. Also a small afternoon snack will ward off that "walk in the door, grab anything within reach to eat" urge.
I think I need a bacon patch. I love bacon but I know that it is not healthy food. We eat it at least once every weekend though and we always overeat it. If I could have it in a patch, that would be great. :)

I know I have really got to try harder to eat something in the morning. I have kind of a nauseous feeling most mornings. I DO However need to take you up on that snack tip! I need to stock up on healthy snacks for when I come in! Thanks Diane!!!:)

Just a simple fold over peanut butter sandwich will tide me over for a long, long time. :)
MsJessica07
01-07-2008, 08:34 PM
You gotta train your metabolism Amy...you're probably feeling nauseous because of low blood sugar...
Can you put something together to eat for when you get to work? I think eating breakfast is your first place to start, and bringing lunch is also a plus. I eat a peanut granola bar (South Beach bar) about mid afternoon when I get hungry, and that usually helps my hungries.

Doing great thus far!! My husband and I joined WW on Thursday. I'm so proud of my husband for counting each and every point as he makes his lunches. :sappy: We both feel really good about how we are doing and what we are doing. Clint has been a great weight loss partner!! :whoop:
I'm happy to say that I'm looking forward to weighing in on Thursday night. I feel a difference already...regardless of it being water weight loss or not...I feel more comfortable. I can tell a difference in my waist.
We have been shopping alot and looking for healthy foods to eat. We are both in love with the Quacker Brands Quakes....the carmel cakes are the bomb and one serving is just 1 point. Those little bad boys expand in your tummy....I have to say I've been getting fuller faster then I use to....yay!!
Overall this has been a great week for the two of us regardless of what our scale will say on Thursday.

Go Mel!!! Good job with the self discipline!! It's hard not to get in line and follow because everyone else is doing it AND the fact that they all probably looked really yummy!!
We weighed in last night and I've lost 3lbs!!! :whoop: Man...I can remember the last time I lost any weight!! Thus far I've gone to the gym 2 times this week...last night I signed up for a weight loss contest called "I lost it at the gym". The fee was reasonable...$40.00 and then she weighed me, took my measurements, body fat, I need to keep a food journal and bring it to every weigh in...which won't be hard since I'm already doing one with WW. There is a total of 16 ladies doing it right now.....and it will last 8 weeks. Oh yeah...I need to head to the gym 3 times a week at a minimum...so overall at least this will ensure I continue to go to the gym. :D
I feel pretty good....I can't wait till I see the results and I feel it in the way my clothes fit.
Pretty excited about the weight loss!! :whoop:

I have been doing good this week. I think. AF started today, so that would explain why I have been emotional and trying to eat more chocolate.
I will be getting weighted and measured next week sometime. I like to wait at least a week after I have period. Seems to be working.

I never filled out this Valentine's Day Challenge form ( ;))
How many pounds and/or inches would you like to lose?
For this challenge I want to lose 10 pounds. My starting New Year's weight of '08 is 158. My goal is to get down to 148 by Valentine's Day.
What are your exercise plans & goals?
To start going to the gym again, to get in at least 4 days of cardio and to start weight-lifting.
What food challenges and weaknesses do you want to overcome?
Overeating and alcohol.
What are your diet goals?
Smaller portions, eat breakfast, and LIGHT beer only or gin & tonics (low cal drink).
Do you have any particular article of clothing you'll use to gauge your progress?
Yes, my entire wardrobe

Copied from my life journal:
So I just had lunch and I had 15 wheat thin crackers, 2 oz of tuna and 8 oz of strawberry light yogurt with 16.9 oz of water and I am freaking full! When I was putting my lunch together, I didn't think I would be full after eating lunch and oh my god, I am....I guess if you are eating the right balance of everything, a small portion goes a long way!

You guys are doing so well! I did make some smarter decisions on my business trip than I normally do. We ate lunch at a Mexican restaurant and I had a fajita salad which is basically a green salad with fajita meat on the top. :lick: We stayed in cottages instead of at a hotel so we made our own dinner last night; steak, baked potato and green salad. I ate 1/4 of my steak and 1/2 of the baked potato so managed to keep myself on track. :)
I cooked breakfast this morning and even though it was bacon and eggs (bacon  ), we skipped lunch because we were still full.

I am going to try that DA, thanks.
This morning I went and worked out at Curves. I worked the machines hard for my strength training and then jogged/ran on the recovery pads. Over all I felt great about my workout.
Today I also start a food journal. Just to keep track of what I eat and I am also going to put what kind of moods and such I am feeling.
Today I also decided that I was going to drink more water. I bought some stuff to put in the water to make it taste better then normal water. That should help.

For some reason I forgot to reply to this. I do this too!! I have a huge black sharpie I use to write the points on the front of the box...I figured it would be helpful to the two of us....it gives us no excuses not to count our points.

Thanks DA and Mel! So, does anyone know how to stretch the side of your lower leg? I have a pain on the side of my leg and it hurts to walk right now. I can't think of any stretch that will work on this part of my leg.

Deidre congrats on loosing 2 pounds.
The only thing I can think of is sitting on the ground, with your legs in front of you straight out, take your left leg and bring it across your right leg, left leg bent, and twist your waste to the right as well, and put your left arm on the right side of your left leg. Repeat with other leg. Does that make any sense??
Well yoga last night was interesting. I had to stop myself from laughing a few times. But I was amazed at how many people do, do yoga. We even had one guy in our class. The last thing we did was something called a corpse pose, and we had to have this smelly bag over our eyes. The smell almost made me throw up, it was horrible, and then with it on my face, I could fell it breaking out, so I had to remove it. Thats the only thing that I didn't like. Other then that it was good. It will take some time to learn everything, but I like how it streches muscles, that I didn't know about.

It does make sense Nikki but if it's the stretch I am thinking of, that stretches your butt and upper leg.
I am glad you are enjoying your yoga class! I rented a yoga dvd and am going to try it out tonight.

Nikki, that sounds disgusting. :(
Sara, did you post that chimi recipe somewhere? Sounds like something I would like to try.
Ya'll, I am going the wrong direction! I had one of "those" moments yesterday though that was a kick in the :moon: I never eat Burger King- ever. It is one of those places where I ate regularly when I was gaining weight so now, I don't allow myself to eat there. However, yesterday in a rush, I went through the drive through. Right after I pulled out, I had to slam on the brakes and my fries spilled all over the floor. Think someone is trying to tell me something? :giggle:

:lol2: Of course they're from aimeesadventures! ;) I used ground turkey instead of ground chicken. Very yummy! (I'll go post it in the WW thread too!)
Chicken Chimichangas
1/2 Pound Uncooked Tyson Ground Chicken
1 (16 oz.) Can Fat Free Refried Beans
1 Cup Salsa
1 (4 oz.) Can Diced Green Chilies, drained
1 teaspoon Chili Powder
1/4 Cup Sliced Green Onions
1 Cup Kraft Fat Free Shredded Cheddar Cheese
8 (8-inch) Wheat Tortillas*
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9X13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray; set aside. Cook chicken and green onions together in a large skillet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray until the chicken is no longer pink. Drain off any liquid. Add the chili powder, salsa, beans and green chilies. Cook until heat through. Mix in cheese and remove from heat. Warm tortillas 2 at a time in the microwave to soften. Place 1/2 cup of the mixture onto each tortilla; fold in the sides and roll up. Place prepared chimichangas into the prepared dish. Repeat with the remaining tortillas. Spray the tops of each Chimichanga lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes or until the tortillas are crisp and brown. Serve with additional salsa, sour cream, or whatever else you like for additional points.

Those chimichanges sounds good!
Just checking in with my latest update. I've been able to get myself to exercise on my stationary bike which is good. I've been doing 60 min some sessions and only 30 min other sessions. I know one of my challenges is to schedule my time better. I always make sure I'm done exercising and ready to be in front of the TV because I'm a total TV addict, and that's not going to change! I'll either record my programs or make sure I get exercise in beforehand. I just need to give myself enough time beforehand so I need to get better organizing my activities throughout the day so that I'm not hanging around and running late and just doing a whole bunch of useless stuff which just wastes time.
So far since December I've lost 10 unsightly bulbous pounds but I still definitely feel really fat and out of shape and I know I have a long way to go. So at least I'm back down to close to that 30 pounds I've been wanting to lose each winter (2007 was my FATTEST year of all time! YUCK!). Since the New Year I've lost 6-7 pounds. Yay! I've been doing well with my diet, although I've gotten to a point where I'm afraid to get together with any of my friends or go out because I don't want to sabotage what I've accomplished so far! Oh well I know I've gotta have a life and I know this will take all year to get off these blubbery pounds so I just gotta keep at it and expect there to be many hurdles along the way!
Right now I'm 152 and my New Year's Day weight was 158 and my Valentine's Day Goal is 148. :cheer:

I know how you feel Lorraine. I hate eating out because it is so much harder to find something within the dietary guidelines I have than it is to eat at home when I know what is going into everything I am making. Dh and I went out to dinner last night and I took home 3/4 of my dinner because it was way too much food but I still went over my calorie limit. Sigh.
Something to help with the tv addiction is DVR. I find myself not hurrying to get home and watch my shows because I know they are recording and I can just watch them later. Someday, I would love to have an exercise room with a TV in it so I can watch tv while I work out. That would rock!

Hey ladies, just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing. I am getting wieghed and measured tomorrow. I hope I do well. I have been working out extra hard this last little while. Nothing feels different, and I fear that I didn't loose anything.
I found out that my scale is off by 3 pounds. I weighed myself the other morning and it said I weighed 190 but then I went to Curves to see just how much off my is, and I was 193 and something. So needless to say I still have some work to do.
Yesterday after helping out with inventory, I went and worked out. I was tired sore and sleepy but I still went. Then today I worked out my elliptical machine. That was a great workout.
I have been drinking a lot of water through out the day. Meeting the 8 -8ozs of classes of water. Which I am really proud of. Plus I have only had one can of pop all week. Which is really good for me.

Yeah, and for me there's the calories from alcohol that really does it, a lot of my friends like to go out for a beer at a brewery or whatever pub so it's not like I can sit there with water :sigh:.
I'd love to get TiVo or DVR but that's extra money to have to spend. and YES I'd love to be able to have a TV (with cable connections, not cable connections upstairs where my exercise bike is) to watch while exercising! That would rock!!

It's hard eatting out at restaurants....I think sometimes it is a matter of making a game plan before getting there..what to stay away from...healthier options etc...tomorrow we are going to a chinese buffet...we love chinese but, I think we will do fine...we've already discussed our plan of attack. :)
Good luck today with your weigh in and measurements Nikki!!
I'm sorry about the lack of weight loss Mel...maybe this next week?
:whoop: Deidre for doing a hour of cardio!! That is great!!! I bet you slept like a baby last night.
I'm pretty excited thus far about my weight loss....I've lost 5.2lbs in the past two weeks!! I went to the gym 5 times last week and thus far this week, I have gone 4 times with plans to workout tonight and tomorrow. I get myself to the gym, though I struggle to do so. I see ironing that needs to be done or vacuuming...it's hard for me to prioritize working out before everything else. I've been trying to have the mindset that my work day isn't over until AFTER going to the gym.
I wish you all success this weekend....the weekend is hard for me to eat a balance of everything like veggies or fruit in everymeal. And also...there are more temptations out there since we all have a little for free time.

Well this morning I felt defeated. I got weighed and measured and I gained a pound, which I guess could be muscle. I didn't really lose any inches, well I lost a whole 1/2 inch on my hips, of all places, my hips. Whats with that. So needless to say this is why I felt defeated. I work out 5 times a week, and been watching my food intake. I guess I need to make a few more changes in my eating. I thought for sure I would of lost some weight.

Well I have been working out and everything. This morning I weighed myself and I was down to 190. Which is great. But I know this scale at home is off by 3 pounds from the scale at Curves. So I would think I am about 193. So since I got weighed and measured, I lost a pound this past week. So thats good.
Went to yoga last night. It went a little better then the first time. Which I guess is something that is going to happen. I hope that by the end of this, the flexiblity will be better then what it is now. I know today I am feeling my legs and a little in my back....plus this morning I did 10 minutes on the elliptical and I could barely get through those 10 minutes....yikes my legs.

Nikki, your Yoga class sounds WEIRD! They pass around a bunch of smelly bags for you to actually put on your face? What is the purpose of this?? What's in the bag? Could you describe again, because I'm confused, it sounds like they're trying to torture you rather than help you get into better shape and do some actual Yoga! Weird!

The weekend was actually really good for me, I lost another couple pounds but it was Mon and Tue where I did kind of poorly (went out with friends and didn't exercise on either days either).
But I'm still down a pound from last week so that to me is really good and I'm happy about that. I've been trying to cook up a different lowfat recipe for my lunches each week, and getting in 30 minutes to an hour's worth of exercising on a stationary bike. Last night I got in 45 minutes but tonight I plan to do 1 good hour.
Right now I'm 3 pounds away from the Valentine's Day goal and let's see... we have approximately three weeks left til Valentine's Day! So a pound a week.

Its a lavender bag. And everyone gets one. Putting it on your eyes I am unsure why, but the whole thing is suppose to relax you at the end of the class. I have opted to not use the smelly bag, cause it stinks and I can feel it burn when I used it that one time. Hope that helps.
Well nothing really to report. I have been working out hard at Curves and then doing the elliptical machine on the other days. Things are going well. With not feeling well yesterday, I never ate a lot. And what I did eat just came out...today feeling better though. I also decided to weigh myself in the middle of the afternoon, here at the house, and I am still at 190 at the home scale, so the one at Curves 3 and some pounds more. So I haven't lost anything.
Yesterday while working out, actually I was cooling down, and doing my stretches, the one trainer came over and helped me better my one stretch. Which was great. It was a touching the toes one, and I have always had problems doing that, and the way she got me to do it was great, plus I can touch my toes...woohoo. So that will help, it also made sense cause thats what I am suppose to do at yoga, but never really understood what she was talking about. So I learnt something new yesterday.
Just wondering how everyone else is doing?? We are less then 3 weeks away from V-day.

Good for you Lorraine!! :whoop: Eatting out can be such a challenge..it seems you really have to watch everything. I guess it is like everything out there though...its all about moderation and making the best choices possible.
Nikki...
Based off your personal journal I wanted to congratulate you on losing this week!! :whoop:
I lost a pound this week which puts me at -6.2lbs in the past 3 weeks. Pretty excited about making progress..though it is frustrating that the 3 scales I'm weighed on..home, WW, and the gym are all different. As long as the one at Weight watchers shows progress...that ultimately is all that matters.
I'm still working out alot...this week I've gone 4 times, with plans to go tonight and tomorrow morning. I'm really trying to make it a priority...I figure it will help in the whole weight loss process..it sure is hard though...I struggle but, ultimately I do go.
I've noticed my legs and arms are a little more firmer....and my jeans today more comfortable. I'm excited to feel more changes in my body, and I really can't wait till I actually see the results in my face...amongst other things.
My husband lost 4 pounds this week which puts him a hair over 10 lbs. I'm really proud of him and I've told him numerous times. I'm grateful for him doing this with me....he is a great partner and motivation for me.
I wish you all success this weekend!!!

DA thanks I forgot to post in here. For the ones that don't know this week I guess it was Wednesday or some thing, I went to workout and I weighed myself. Cause I weighed myself the day before at home and it said 190. So the next day at curves I weighed myself and it said 191.5. I was like thats great. I have lost 2.25 pounds I think it was since I got weighed and measured last time. So I was happy with that. That will get me through till next month for sure.
At least something that I am doing is working.
I have also started cooking some things on our George Foreman grill. We did pork chops and they were alright. I did steaks the other day and they were gross. What a waste of meat. I haven't been snacking on a lot of junk food lately, which is great. Also drinking lots of water. SO I think I am doing good. I hope to loose that 1.5 pounds by v-day....wish me luck.
How is everyone else doing??

I had a really bad day yesterday. Stress with work and what not, and I turned back to my old ways. I had like 4 cans of pop. I can't member the last time I drank that much pop. But today I went out and bought more crystal light mix, and I should be good today. Its Friday.
I don't know if I will get to my v-day, which right now I can't member what it is. But I am just happy that I have been giving it a honest try, and will continue to do so.
I think I need to add some things to my workout routine. Like some crunches or something. I will wait to add anything till my next weigh and measure, which should be around the 18 of Feb.

Ladies where is everyone??
Well things are getting better. I weighed myself this morning at Curves before my workout and I was still at 191.5. Which is great. I thought the first time I seen that number was a mistake, but it looks like its for real. Which is great. I am hoping to keep the weight off till I get weighed and measured officially on the 18th of Feb.
I am drinking my water again. Which is great. Still not up to the 8 glasses a day, but getting there. There are so much things to do doing the day sometimes that drinking water is the last thing from my mind. But I am doing what I can.
Other then that, I am cutting the time back on my elliptical machine. I was doing 1000 steps in just over 10 minutes, now I am 1000 steps in just over 8 minutes. So I am thinking that in March for sure I will add more steps, maybe another 500. That will be a great workout. I am also hoping that when March comes along I can start getting out back to walking. That was 40 minutes when I did that. So I can't wait to get back with that.
Hope everyone is doing well. We are almost done this challenge, one more week. Hang in there girls you can do it.

I had a hard time since our weekend was jam-packed with activities. I went out with the girls Saturday night for sushi which I ended up eating a pound of the stuff  So much rice  We also had cocktails afterwards so more calories there. Beer and fattening foods watching the game on Sunday so that did me no good. And NO exercise, and now I might be coming down with a cold and barely can keep my eyes open. So this week has been piss poor for me in the WL department.
I've been noticing the longer days (getting darker out later!) too!! :yippee:

I can't believe that the days are getting longer, which is great news to here.
I was thinking the other day about my weight, and I weighed myself the day before I got AF. I was surprised that I weighed still 191.5. I am like if I weigh that now before hand, I must be around the 190 mark. Cause I know I gain a little water weight, but not a lot. I am looking forward to this months weigh and measure.

I got weighed and measured tonight. The good news is I have gained 6 pounds of muscle. The bad news? I only lost a half a pound of fat and pretty much every measurement has gone up, not down. WTF am I doing wrong? I am working out, watching what I am eating, drinking a crapload of water, I haven't had soda in freaking ages, same with fast food! I just don't get it.

I weighed in yesterday and according to the gym..I maintained my weight and at WW I gained .4lbs. No clue what the reasoning is though. I've followed my diet and am still averaging going to the gym 5 times a week. :dontknow: Maybe water weight from AF coming?? Maybe the pork steak from the night before?? :dontknow:
I'm not worried about it this week since I know I've done the best I can.....I will need to look a little harder and make some changes next week if I continue to see the same results. I'm proud of myself for what I have done thus far though.
My husband has nearly lost 15lbs thus far!! I'm really proud of him and happy he is seeing the results. :)

Question for you ladies......your thoughts please.
At what point does a diet/lifestyle become a fad diet??
Here's the thing, I want to lose the weight in a healthy way...AND I want to maintain the weight loss. I'm doing weight watchers which does allow me to eat whatever I want...within moderation. I don't take advantage of that..I feel I have a good balance of everything. I feel comfortable thus far with my weight loss and my workouts.
I'm in a weight loss contest at the gym and previously when I didn't lose any weight according to the gym scale she told me I needed to eat less processed foods, etc. I didn't like to hear that but, have made a attempt to limit the amount of processed foods for at least one meal a day. This past Wednesday after maintaining my weight according to her scale she looked over my food journal and told me I need to reduce/cut out the carbs in one of my meals all together. I don't mind eatting a salad for a meal occasionally or vegetable soup for lunch but, all carbs?? I want to lose weight but, at the same time I don't want my diet and the lifestyle I'm trying to create turn into a fad diet. I don't want to eliminate foods all together, I've done that before....and years later I'm still 40+lbs overweight. I know there is a healthy balance out there...I'd like to find it. I don't feel that starting to eliminate certain foods is a good idea though. I feel like I'm shellshocked from when I use to do fad diets, it almost makes feel like I'm over sensitive to change. I really don't want to venture away from what I'm doing with WW so I don't feel like I'm remotely open minded to this woman and her suggestions. Also maybe because I have had good results from WW in the past?? No clue....
What do you think?? Does that happy medium exist?? How much are you personally willing to change up your diet?? Do you have any limits you will put on a diet you follow??
Deidre98
02-08-2008, 06:11 PM
I have cut out carbs before and it just doesn't work for me. Now cutting out the bad carbs is all right but I don't think I could never have bread for the rest of my life. It's just not going to happen. The only thing I am trying to limit is cheese because there is a ton of fat in it, even with the reduced fat stuff. Oh and sodium because it helps you retain fluids. I am not the best judge right now since I haven't lost any weight but I think by having a healthy balance of everything, you should continue to lose weight.

02-08-2008, 09:24 PM
I don't think that by cutting out all carbs and cutting back on processed meat is going to make that much of a change. I think if you eat those things in smaller portions then it will work out. See I love carbs, always have always will, but when I eat fries or mashed potatoes, I eat less. For the mashed potatoes I eat 2 ice cream scoops, and thats all. Maybe 2 handfulls of fries. I eat wheat pasta, and wheat bread. I just eat smaller portions all together. And I think with you and you wanting to keep these things in your life, you are going to have to do something similar. KWIM?? I think if you cut out the things that whats her nuts says, it may be fine for awhile, but after awhile you will get back to eating those things and the weight will come back and then you have a fad diet. I think. So by keeping those things in your diet now, just eating less, you have less chance of falling off the wagon. KWIM?? Does any of this make sense, cause it makes sense in my head as I am typing it.
Well I think things here are going well. I weighed myself today to see what I gained with my period, and I didn't gain anything. The weight that I was on tuesday I am still the same today. Which is great. And I am going to get the official weigh and measure this coming week sometime. Can't wait.
I had a lady at Curves, she works there, tell me I look good. She noticed that my work out pants were baggy. And she wanted to tell me. I thanked her and was feeling pretty good about myself. Had a great workout this morning as well. I didn't use my elliptical machine at all this week. Tuesday my lower back was killing me from my period, and thursday well I was lazy. So I am going to use to over the weekend to make up for not using it during the week.
Other then that nothing else happening. Drinking water, and watching what I am eating.

Thanks Ladies. :glomp:
Well yesterday Clint and I measured each other.....since January 1st he has lost 16 inches and I have lost 14.5 inches!! At first he was like..um...why do you want us to do this now...shouldn't we do it once we lose all of our weight........he understood after taking measurements. I'm happy that it proved I wasn't losing my mind about feeling different and clothes feeling more comfortable.
In another month we will do the same thing.
I wish you all success this week!! Only a couple more days till the end of this challenge!!

Is that 14.5 inches in the waist?? Or just overall??? Congrats though! That is great!
I never made it to the gym this weekend but I did work up a sweat cleaning up and taking stuff out to the trash bin so that counts!

Did you lose any in the bust area?
johnsdeere
02-11-2008, 11:22 AM
It's funny you ask...not at all. I lost it mostly in my arms, waist, thighs and hips. I'll try to remember my measurements at lunch today and will post what I lost in each area.

DA congrats to both you and Clint for all the inches that you lost. Thats great. Clothing never lies when it comes to them fitting looser. Every month I think is a good idea. That way you can keep track better.
I got weighed and measured this morning. I lost 3.25 pounds since last month. Which I was happy with. Lost a 1.25 inches in my bust, .25 in my abs. Every thing else stayed the same. I was a little disappointed that I never lost more inches, but I will take what I lost. Better then gaining.
And I think the thing that matters the most is that I feel better about myself, I feel more healthier. And my health is more important then some numbers.

I can't believe that tomorrow is the last day.
I doubt that I will loose the 1.5 pounds to meet my goal. I gave it a good shot and hope that the next time around I can meet my goal. Maybe it was just a goal that couldn't be met.
I hope that everyone else is doing good. Can't wait to hear how your challenge went and if you met your goal.

I think I've developed a number of good habits during this challenge. I started out not exercising at all, and with really bad eating habits (eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted).
The things I did with my diet:
1) replaced the nonfat but high sugar/carbs fruity yogurts with plain yogurt mixed with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and/or bananas with cinnamon and ground flaxseed. I'll add high fiber cereal and nuts.
2) having breakfast more often, hopefully make this a daily habit.
3) more water
4) started making my own recipes at home more often. This time actually following recipes rather than trying to throw things together in a crockpot and making my own inventions then winding up not being thrilled about it, and not really eating it and wanting to get take-out instead. If I follow a recipe from a recipe book, I have more luck with actually enjoying it! I just need to kick the habit of thinking I can invent my own superb recipe because they've been coming out very lackluster
5) always having part-skim cheese strings in the fridge for snacks.
6) apple slices and peanut butter make for a great snack instead of chips & dip which I'd been doing.
Exercise:
1) forced myself to get going again with an hour of cardio on as many days as I can convince myself. This is still a work in progress but much better than in the past year. I've been going to the gym at least twice a week (except for last week when I caught DH's cold). I've been using my stationary bike upstairs now, the last time I was using it was last spring of '07
2) been doing weights and situps. It's easy to do weights while watching TV.
3) added stretching to my routine.
4) actually **got up early!!!** one morning a couple weeks ago to exercise!! :jump4joy:This is HUGE! I only did it once, but I showed myself that I CAN do it. I plan to work on this and see what I can do as far as more morning workouts by springtime.
I still have a long way to go though, but I'm on a much better track than I was in 2007. I'm 1.8 pounds away from my Valentine's Day goal but that to me is almost like reaching the goal! When you're looking at 30 pounds to lose, I'd say that I'm doing well with my goals if I'm only 1.8 away from what I set out to be by Valentine's Day! :yippee: I'll see what I weigh tomorrow though, that'll be the official weigh-in result for this challenge. I went back to see when this challenge started, and since then I've lost 8 pounds! Not bad!

Congrats on the effort and the losses ladies!!
Since today is the day......
Since January 1st I have lost 10.2 lbs....yesterday's weigh in I lost 2.8lbs. I have also lost a total of 14.5 inches total off of my body.
I have been going to the gym 5-6 times a week and have incorporated doing the elliptical machine every other day.
I'm very proud of myself for the weight loss and the progress I have made. I have made alot of changes in my workouts and have made them a priority. I can't wait for the coming months and the "losses" I experience.
I'm happy to reach my 10lb goal....I get to go tanning now!! :whoop:

So I didn't lose anything but am trying to be positive about what I did accomplish.
-I have stuck to my eating pretty decently and only drink water now, no soda!
-I am making smarter choices when it comes to snacks and just meals in general.
-The past 2 weeks I have made it to the gym 4 times a week and am really pushing myself at the gym.
-I am getting the mentality that I can do this and realizing I am not dying from doing cardio, especially on an eliptical.
I think for the next challenge, I am not going to worry about the pounds as much but really focus on my eating and working out more. I am realizing that is more important than the numbers, even though I need to lose the fat. I think what is most important for me is making the commitment to this lifestyle change versus concentrating solely on the numbers.
