alright. bear with me here. ive been stewing about this since last night and i am about to explode!!! this may be a little on the long side so if you actually read the whole thing thank you thank you!
ok. last night i was dozing off on the couch. just a normal tuesday night. i was real tired cause i had horrible anxiety pretty much all day. so im snoozing and i hear aj on the phone saying "i have no idea, youll have to ask her and shes asleep"
he walked into the living room and i woke up. he hands me the phone and says its the bank...something about child support??? (WTF!!) we dont have any kids!
so i get on the phone and i say hello. the girl on the other end says "this is so and so from your bank. do you know who i am" i answer "yes i know you" she then goes off on this tangent about how she isnt eligible for child care assistance and what can i do to help her!!!!
ok. background info- i work for the child care assistance program for the state of kentucky. we help low income families pay for daycare. this girl got my phone number off of MY BANK ACCOUNT AND CALLED ME AT HOME AT 7:00 ON A FREAKING TUESDAY NIGHT!!!!!
we have an unlisted number that we pay for every month. this girl just took it upon herself to get into mine and aj's PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT to get my phone number to call me at home about something that deals with my job..uh...hello. my work day ends at 4:30. if you want to discuss something like that with me call me at work!!!!!
im appalled. seriously. i called the bank today to discuss this with them. the branch manager wasnt in so i talked to a different lady. i told her i was now worried that things would start "happening" to my money. her response was "oh i dont think shes the kind of person that would mess with your account" uhhhhhh. you dont THINK????? hello!!!! she freaking got into my account to get my phone number.
i just . i dont even know what to say. i would never ever in a million years go into someones personal information to call them at home about their job. if i had a question i would call the main number during working hours!!! geez!!!
im calling the branch manager back tomorrow and if i dont get anywhere with her im going above her until i get some results. or even a freaking apology!!!
whew. ok. sorry so long. thanks for reading!

OMG!!! *hugs...hugs..hugs*
Yes deff keep calling the Branch Manager, and keep going higher until this gets sorted out. You would think she would get punished for doing that!!
HOW RUDE!!! I am so sorry you have to deal with this crap... :(
Don't stop until she is harshly reprimanded. Threaten them and seriously? Consider speaking with an attorney or someone that knows the law. She might have broken SEVERAL and should be punished accordingly.

thats EXACTLY what i was thinking. if i were to do something like that at work, get into a clients file and call them at their home about their job. i would be fired!!! my boss was also telling me that a teller at her husbands work (he works at fifth third) got fired for the exact same thing. im anxious to see what happens tomorrow. grrrrrrr.
ps. thanks for the hugs and kind words tanya!

(he works at fifth third)
I bank there. :D Kathy says I'm nuts for trusting someone with my money who can't even do fractions properly. I mean, fifth THIRD? Like, WTF? LoL
Now, as for the stalker bank teller...
*starts the chant*
Get her fired.
Get her fired.
Get her fired.
Ok, so I'm a hard-ass, but jeez. That's just plain wrong. S'also wrong that the other chick wouldn't do a thing about it!
*TanyaJeanne*
07-19-2006, 08:45 PM
Ya she NEEDS to be fired, that was very uncalled for
JerAndKathy

Don't stop until she is harshly reprimanded.
The problem is that if she's just harshly reprimanded, then she's going to why...And she's going to know that Kristina "snitched" on her. And then what's going to do?

As a former bank teller, your story just made me CRINGE. That is a HUGE breach of confidentiality and she should get fired for it. Bottom line. I wish you luck with calling back to talk to the branch manager and if that doesn't work DEFINITELY go over their head.
Good luck!

07-19-2006, 08:52 PM
umm okay that lady has got some serious issues. First of all, going into your account without you being there? That's got to be illegal and its definately against bank policy (or we hope). Secondly, calling you at home? She couldn't wait until you go into the bank again. Or hey how about call you at work since that's a public number. Psycho!
What makes the story much worse is when you spoke to some one else about it and she didn't care! WTF!!! Go to the president of the bank if you have to!
I agree with Kari, get in contact with an attorney. Not only could your money start to get played with, but all your personal information.

thanks guys you definitely made me feel better. sometimes i feel like i overreact to situations. but this time i definitely dont think i am.
i dont know if she knows i called or not yet, but im sure she will soon enough. i didnt really have time to think about it last night after i got off the phone with her, because we had to shave dixies (our lab) back. she has bad hot spots so we were dealing with that. this morning though. reality set in and i got furious!!!
the thing that worries me most is that she has access to our account you know? all of our personal information is in there. i just cant believe someone would actually do this. its shocking. and she deals with my money!!!!!!

OMG! That's a breech of privacy! I would definitely call the branch manager back and threaten to talk to a lawyer. I think I would also go ahead and change banks.
JerAndKathy
07-19-2006, 09:16 PM
Might think about printing a statement from your online banking (if available) on a daily basis in case money does come up missing...You can show day-by-day. Monday was this much, only these two things came out, so why has it dropped to this much? Ya' know?
Mrs. Pickering
07-19-2006, 09:26 PM
WOW. You are definitely not over-reacting!!
I wouldn't stop until she is no longer employed at this bank!!
Kristina_and_Aj
07-19-2006, 09:29 PM
jer- i actually did that this afternoon!
if i dont get results tomorrow im definitely changing banks. there is no way on earth i will stay with them knowing that she is lurking in the shadows!!!!!!

07-19-2006, 09:46 PM
I'd close my account there and go elsewhere immediately. Not worth taking chances that she'd try to use your info(ssn#) for something or just help herself to cleaning out your account and disappearing.
O, I'd keep calling the bank to talk to the manager, if they do nothing, GO OVER THEM til you reach someone who does care. I'd even go as far as getting her name and a record from your phone company of incoming calls so that you have proof it happened, without a doubt.
Please let us know what happens.

Pretty sure it's against the law, but I'm not 100% on that. Needless to say, I agree with the above entirely. If going to the manager doesn't work, go over her head.
I honestly wouldn't worry about my money if I were you -- the chick is obviously a blubbering idiot. I'd change banks though, for sure.
Also, to extend on what Jer said (which was a great suggestion and good that you're doing it), sign up with True Credit or something like that to monitor your credit and alert you if ANYTHING changes.
Celeste
07-19-2006, 11:44 PM
Wow. That is incredibly inappropriate. I'll be very curious to hear how the manager handles it.
Sk8ermaiden
07-19-2006, 11:58 PM
I also would not stop until she was fired. That has to be against the law! Who does she think she is? I would also, of course, express my outrage that the woman you talked to showed no concern about the matter and did not even apologize. If you don't get anywhere with the branch manager, just mention the word attorney and a lot of the time they'll start taking the problem a lot mroe seriously. Good luck!
Krissy

ACK! I'd be PISSED! Definitely call back, definitely change banks and please keep us posted!

I don't think you're overreacting. I wouldn't stop until appropriate action was taken. I'd also close my account and change banks. I wouldn't just call, I'd put it writting and send letters to all of the big wigs; send it certified as well. I'd also report it to your company. That should be against the law.
Good luck with this. Keep us updated on the situation.

ok. so i called and spoke to the branch manager. im so irate right now i dont even know what to do!!!
she also acted like it wasnt a big deal. then she told me that the girl told her that she had my numbers wrote down in her drawer from where i had given them to her (WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
im like..uhhhh no i dont think so. if i would have given her ANY number it would have been the main line at my work. not even my personal line. she could have just wrote down my numbers and stuck them in her drawer. you know! my work number is also in my information there as well. :disbelief: :disbelief:
AND i didnt get any kind of apology or anything!!!!!
i think im in shock i never ever thought my bank would act like this!!! my mom found the corporate number for me and told me to call them as well cause this is just nuts!! i may do that since im working half day today, just call when i get home away from listening ears at the office!!
thanks for all the advice guys ill keep you updated!
JerAndKathy
07-20-2006, 11:07 AM
Yes! Call corporate - don't let up on this, because this is a major breach. And um, why would this stalker chickie tell the manager that unless she knew you were going to complain?
Or if they had looked into it, just to say they had done something. *grrrr*
Don't let up on this.

07-20-2006, 12:06 PM
I am hoping you are seriously thinking about pulling all of your money and your accounts from this bank, this is a major breach of trust and confidentiality between the bank and its customers and let it be know when you leave that you do not trust this bank with your personal information. Also let other people you know what happened, word of mouth on this type of info can hurt a lot more than what you can do by yourself if no one is listening to you at the bank.
*meghan*
07-20-2006, 12:14 PM
Unbelievable! I can't believe the manager wasn't more concerned with the issue. That calls for a bank switcheroo in my book! I hope everything works out fine for you :)

OH MY GOD that is appaling can you go higher with this how bad is that bank change your bank and let them know why heavens this is really horrible.
Mandy
07-20-2006, 01:07 PM
WOW! You've gotta be kidding me! I don't even know where to begin on this one!! First of all, why someone would think it's okay to get someone's personal information through bank accounts is simply appauling. I would definatly change account numbers or something, that's just unsafe. Second, shame on your bank!! They should've done something about that the second you called them!! Jeez!

07-20-2006, 01:50 PM
Close your account and change banks right away. If they are that casual about personal information, and the kind of personal information they have you do not want getting out.
Call corporate, but also write out a letter of complaint. It is easy for companies to ignore phone calls. But not something in writting that goes into a file. Banks are federally regulated and have very strict rules and regulations. My former boss owned a bank and he went to JAIL over some poor paperwork keeping. I won't go into that whole story but it was nothing major that any of us ever thought he'd go to jail over.
Hi hi-
Honey... I can only echo what everyone else has said... Call corporate, change banks AND furthermore... report to the Better Business Bureau!! This is totally uncalled for and definately illegal to use your personal information for personal use.

wow That is horrible!! I would take it all the way up. They are really stupid for not handling it with in the bank! now not only will that girl be in trouble but the whole bank!!! That scares me!! I never really thought about all that perosnal info you give! Call as high as you need to, to get results!! I would say you might even want to contact a lawyer because im pretty sure it is against the law to take anyone's personal info from any federal company! I work in health care and we have tons of restictions with personal information , so I am sure banks have tons too!!!
I agree, close it and get out of there, start a stink, talk to a lawyer, talk to television about a breach of information, do it all.
I hate the way even those "upper management" people are dismissing it as no big deal, this is a serious confidentiality issue.
I want to know how this results, so I'm subbing!

WOW! I can't believe the people at this bank are dealing with this the way they are? I think this is SUCH a breach of confidentiality...I'm a school teacher and I would NEVER think of looking up personal information for my PERSONAL use! I would DEFINITELY switch banks and find one that is more confidential!!!!

Come to think of it. Did you get the bank manager's full name? Look him up in the phonebook, call him tonight about 8:00 and ask him what kind of deal you can get for a car loan...See how long you can keep him on the phone before he gets pissed off.

ok wow. seeing all of your posts on this really makes me feel that im not overreacting!!!
i feel totally violated by this you know?
my boss was telling me that some banks do a trail on what screens tellers get into. i dont know if mine does or not but its definitely something for me to look into you know!!
ive always been weird about my personal information, and this isnt making it any better at all!!!
so i guess tomorrow its a search for a new bank, which will be a total PITA!!!!!!!
i think im also going to get in touch with the phone company and see if i can get a printout of incoming calls.
thanks for all the support everyone it means alot!!!

I have an unlisted home number, and I never put it on any paperwork.. if a form asks for it, I leave it blank.. I only use my office number and my mobile ( cell) number. at least I can screen those calls. but definately change banks, yell scream and generally cause a stink.

Is this a major national bank? It's amazing to me the response, or lack thereof, you've gotten from them. I agree with the others that you should call the corporate offices in addition to sending a formal letter of complaint.

I've never even heard of anything like this happening to anyone. With all the identity theft stuff going on no bank should be taking this as lightly as your's is. I have a girlfriend who was a branch manager at a bank, I emailed her to see what advise she had. Will let you know what she says.

Appaling, def call corporate, and if I were, you, I'd change banks anyway....personally, i'd pick a busy Fri. afternoon to do it, and I would be very loud about why!

Wow, this is crazy! I agree with everyone else. I would take this issue as high as I could. She has no right to do this. I can't believe she would lie and say that you gave it to her!! She clearly knows she was in the wrong then.
Do you have any legal council to talk to off the record? I have a feeling you do have some legal rights in this matter.

i told my boss about it the next morning when she came in, just in case. we also were looking through our phone longs and she called and we gave her a counselors number to meet with. but. i cant say any of that to anyone at the bank because of confidentiality(sp?) reasons. grrr.
i did have a dream last night that she called me at home again and i yelled and screamed at her real bad!

She has totally violated that public policy.
She should be fired. I hate saying that because I know we all have bills to pay, but that's against their policy and I cannot BELIEVE the bank manager is defending her!
Call corporate, and tell us what happens. I wouldn't even bother with a letter, you'll just get a "this is currently being investigated and we apologize for the inconvenience"

sorry guys i totally spaced on letting you know what happened!
sad to say not much. blah.
i called the corprate office and pretty much got the run around that they would "look into" the situation. :blah: :blah: :blah:
as of right now were looking for a different bank, and until we find a different one weve been going to a different branch, i spoke to the branch manager at this one and she was as appalled as i was about the way this was being handled, but of course there wasnt anything she could have done since it didnt happen at her branch. which i totally undersatnd i was just making her aware what was going on, and she told me if anything goes wrong with my account to call her and she would personally look into it. so that made me feel a tad better.
its pretty sad that the only reaction i got from anyone was from someone at a different branch!
weve been watching our account even more closely than before for the time being. we just havent found a bank we like yet. blah.
thanks though everyone for all of your support on this to let me know i wasnt out of line getting upset like i did!!!!:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Better Business Bureau. Report them immediately -- national level if they're a national chain, and local level. That's the best way to get things done. Also, do you have a troubleshooters at your local TV station? If so, let me know the station and who it is and I'll get their contact information from my media database for you. There has to be one or something similar, that seems to be popular with TV stations :)
Seriously, I wouldn't let it sit -- it's a total invasion of privacy and I think it's ludacris that they aren't doing a damn thing about it.

You definately were NOT out of line for getting upset. And it is BULL that no one wants to look into it. ITA with Maria and Ashley, you should report them and make their lives miserable by going public or something if possible. At the very least this girl should have been investigated thoroughly, and put on suspension or leave or something while it was being done. Whatever happend to the customer is always right? It seems like with a complaint of such serious nature (hacking into any acct. for whatever reason is unforgivable) they would ahve taken every measure to make sure it wasn't going on! I am still appalled, probably moer so scince their corperate office seemed so disinterested!
*Ashley*

I would really make their lives a living hell PR-wise if there was no action taking, but that's just me. Ugh on this idiot. I hop everything worked out.
