What really said or is going to say "this isn't just another wedding reception" about your wedding reception? What personal touches did you add?

The tables were named after our favorite books and albums, with the cover art being the actual table number.

We had a coffee bar (think mobile starbucks) which was the hit of the night.

We had it in a historic venue (100-year old fire station) in a part of town that's very important to us. Which needed no decoration. :woo:

We were not introduced at the reception, nor was the bridal party. I just don't like that concept anyway.

There was only one "special dance" and toasts were done while dinner was winding down (both of which people thanked us for).

We had bags of amusements for the kids which I think were the most successful part of the whole wedding.

-Our first dance song (by Josh Groban). A lot of people told us they would have been shocked if it wasn't a Josh song.

-Actually, a lot of the music was really "us." All the special songs (first dance, cake cutting, etc.) were chosen specifically because we thought they'd be perfect.

-Our cake. It went with my idea for simple but elegant, but had a goofy cake topper. It was also super boring (marble cake), but we're not fancy cake people.

-We only had one kid at the reception (my nephew) and we bought him a couple of toys so he'd have something to play with through dinner.

We did a special big table in the middle for my sisters and their families. They all had to travel a long ways (from Iowa to North Carolina) to come to the wedding and I wanted them to know how much I appreciated them coming and all their help.

We had our parents sit at the head table with us. They don't live in our area so we don't get to see them much and it was nice to have them right there with us.

I would say that the most unique touch to our reception was our centerpieces. We also tied photos into the decor on other tables as well. Especially considering my love for photography, it was something that was very personal to us. One of my sisters even commented that it made "perfect sense that the whole place would be covered in pictures."
