Sister's dress is back from being altered. Mom is concerned that, after the corset back is tied, the string is very long. What do you do with the string? Does it get tucked inside the dress? Or should the string be shortened?

It gets tucked inside of the dress. You can make a little knot at the base and then tuck the rest of it in.

I had mine tucked in, but I also had them shortened because they would have showed under the dress. I've also seen them left out after they've been shortened.
It is tucked inside the dress.

Technicall, I guess it's supposed to be tucked inside the dress (since that's what everyone here said), I personally left mine out, tied in a small bow and then left to drap down the back of the train. Then again, my dress was very simple, so that was the decoration for the back of the dress/train.

Oh yes, I forgot about this. Mine needed to be shortened b/c a couple times during the night it would sort of slip out from under my dress and my sister would make fun of my "tail" :giggle:

I didn't know it was supposed to be tucked in, and neither did anyone that helped me get dressed, because mine was out the whole time. And the ties were never shortened either, so they were looooong!

I think if done in a nice bow that it would be ok to leave out. You might just need to try tucking it in and leaving it out and see what the bride likes more.

I thought about tying mine in a bow and leaving it out but then my seamstress reminded me of the horrors of ass bows

Usually tucked in, although I have seen brides used colored ribbon for the corset and then leave it out with a bow as decoration...
If butt bows are a turnoff for you, then knotted and tucked in could work :giggle: And you could always pin the knot to an underlayer of the dress to keep it from peeking out!

Hey! When I was married (the first time) in 1989, an ass bow was a very strict requirement for my dress (as were puffy shoulders, long sleeves and a high collar). I sincerely hope they make a comeback.
