View Full Version : Would this be a big no-no?

I'm thinking about printing out mailing labels with each guests name and address on it. That way when I send out thank you cards I can stick the label on the envelope rather than write out each individual address. Would that be a big no-no? Would it be better if I just sent the envelopes through the printer instead? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Thats how we did it.. Printed out labels with the names and addresses. It was way easier and has came in handy since then with Thank You Cards, Christmas Cards... I say go for it!

I wouldn't be offended!! I've gotten wedding invitations like that before :) I don't think anyone would give it a second thought.

Thanks ladies! I just know how incredibly picky people can be. I figure I'll end up writing all the thank you's since Michael's handwriting is not legible if you're not used to it. I'm going to give him the task of labeling, stamping and mailing though because as much as he will object his arms and legs are not broken. lol!

I have a feeling labels are going to become more and more acceptable as the computer generation ages. For us old people :teehee: it seems a little more odd, but I'm not offended when I get them. It just to me looks more like junk mail. We got a wedding invitation with a label a few weeks ago and I honestly thought it was junk mail. So it is a good thing I open everything anyway. But it was such a pleasant surprise to open it and find a beautiful wedding invitation inside.

See, We still made ours look pretty. They were printed in pink ink with signature font :)

You can do a lot with a printer - add your wedding colors, make the font different, etc. It'll make a world of difference!

IMO, labels are fine for thank you notes but not for wedding invitations. You will handwrite your TY notes so they still have that personal touch. :)

Thanks y'all! That's what I was thinking. With the wedding invitations we're printing each person's name and address directly onto the envelopes so I think that will look nice. I would love to hire someone to do calligraphy but that's just WAY too expensive and I don't have the time to learn or handwrite each myself. With the thank you notes, like Diane pointed out, they will be handwritten so hopefully no one will pitch a fit. I know my family won't mind, his family is more traditional though so we'll see.

I handwrote all mine because I sorta got really hungup on the fact that they were supposed to be handwritten.... but I don't see a problem with using labels or printing straight on the envelope...

I don't see how printed labels would be a problem. Your hand will be cramped enough from writing the thank yous!

Gosh I don't think I even bother look at the envelope it is what is inside that counts. I would hand write the thank you notes but for the envelope I am not sure it would even register but that's just me

Just a quick :fyi: on the colored ink. I once had to re do about 100 Christmas cards because I printed the addresses in red ink. The man at the post office says that the scanner can not pick that color up. So just be careful that you either have them run by hand, or you pick a color the computer picks up :)

Ooo! Thanks a really good thing to note, Jaime! Would the local post office have that information? Is there an extra charge to get them run by hand?

Yes, the local PO would know that.

They actually made me re-write all of the zip codes in black ink by hand.

I think if you printed it on the envelopes it would look better but i wouldn't care if you used labels. I'm going to print straight to the envelope. Word works pretty well for this. There is a mail merge program or something in word.
