Just curious to find out if anyone has taken a supplement containing Hoodia? Is there any weird side affects? Did it seem to work for you? Any one considering taking something like that to help loose weight? Inquiring minds wanna know. :p

Fad diets and supplements always worry me. They say there are no side effects to Hoodia, but the only people who have used it long term are people who live in remote areas of Africa. Before taking it you should consider what other medications you take and how they may interact. There are concerns on it's effect on the liver. And anyone with diabetes should be cautious about using hoodia. Because the brain thinks it has enough blood sugar and someone with diabetes may not realized they are in trouble until it is to late.
If you do decide to use it, make sure you force yourself to drink enough water. It makes you feel less hungry, but it also will make you feel less thirsty.

They also concern me. For me, I wont take anything unless my doctor prescribes it. I am scared of the OTC things. I always worry that down the road they will find that it has long term side effects.

Thanks for your input! I haven't used any, but I was just curious because I heard a friend of a friend who was thinking about taking it and well I just wanna know if anyone has used it or not. Like you guys, I'm not willing to take something like that that could in the long run hurt my body or whatever. If I do hear something bad about them, I'd like to pass the info to my friend so she can tell her friend.
Thanks again ladies. :)

Just throwing in my :twocents: as a pharmacist, I never recommend any of those diet products. I think they are too dangerous and I'm scared if I recommend something and my patient has a serious reaction to it, I'm in big trouble. So definitely check with a doctor if you are wanting to start a program that includes supplements. Ok, I'm done

I had some stuff with hoodia in it. It definitely made me not feel hungry. I would even hear my stomach growl and feel it, but it wouldn't register as a hunger pang like normally. It was kind of strange.
Honestly I kept forgetting to take it so I don't know if it really worked. I'm sure it does though if it makes you not want to eat, but that isn't very healthy after all.

See that's what my friend's friend wants to know. She's having a hard time controlling her appetite. I told her to tell her friend that I just use self control, but I guess not everyone can do that.

Self control does work... your just miserable in the process. I find that I'm hungry all the time. But if I eat until I'm full then I gain weight. It doesn't make sense and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat. I just try to live with it...

Yeah I must say I was miserable at first, but now that my body is used to me not eating as much it really isn't all that bad. :)

Eating less is hard at first but eventually your stomach gets used to not getting as much food. At least that has been my experience.
