I am one of those people who can never sleep the night before a major event. The night before the first day of school I would stay up until 2 and be awake and alert by 5. I have a good feeling that I may end up being like that the night before my wedding. Did anyone take anything to help them sleep? Would you recommend it? Were you groggy the next day? I just don't want to show up to my wedding and be either exhausted from not sleeping the night before or just groggy and drugged out of my mind. :teehee:

I think it would be smart for you to try taking something well before the wedding to see how it effects you. I do think it is important for you to get some good sleep the night before your wedding.

I was up so late doing last minute things that by the time I could have taken anything it would have been to late. And I was so tired by then I didn't have any problem getting to sleep.

If you do I would experiment with it beforehand. Some stuff leaves you feeling really groggy and crappy the next morning.

I agree with Lisa and Raychel.

I thought that I would need something to sleep but it turned out that I was exhausted from running around and fell asleep quickly.

I'm with Jillian, I knew for sure I would need something , but by that night I was out cold!

I would not recommend it if you take it too late you could be very groggy in the morning and some of them could make you very dopey and dozy all day. If you think you have to I would see what your GP recommends or a mild very mild pill and try it way before the wedding.

I agree with what others have said about experimenting! I was on a perscribed sleeping pill, and if I didn't give myself at least 8 hours to sleep, I was VERY drowsy the next morning. Thankfully this wasn't the case before my wedding, but I had been on the pill for probably a year or two prior. I had a harder time falling asleep, just from excitement, but I needed to make sure that I still had 8 hours from taking the pill.

One non-perscription pill that I like and know other's have had success with is Melatonin - it's a natural substance that's found in the body, and you can usually get pills at a health food store. They didn't work as well as my perscription, but they didn't leave me drowsy the next morning at all!

But please try them out for a good while beforehand, and do your research. Melatonin doesn't come with many restrictions on when to take it, but a lot of pills say that you need to devote 8 hours to sleep while on it otherwise you'll be groggy.

I thought I would need one, too - but was afraid to risk it due to the groggy feeling.

The night before our wedding I was so exhausted and worn out, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
