Of course you can, Aubs! You're a New Englander at heart!

Hi, I'm Nikkiana and I'm from NH!

The more the merrier Aubrey! =)

If you girls went to college, did you stay in NE? Where did you go?

Sara
07-12-2006, 08:33 PM
I stayed super close. Stayed in Western MA even. I went to Bay Path college in Longmeadow MA for undergrad, which was like 10 minutes from where I lived. And for grad school I went to Springfield College which was a few minutes closer. I never really wanted to go out of state or father away in state.

Angela
07-12-2006, 08:42 PM
I went to Worcester State College....I never even left the darn city I live in!!!

Krissy
07-12-2006, 08:51 PM
Haha, maybe it's a New England thing! I went to Providence College which is a whole 9 miles from where I was living. lol But I lived there so it felt farther.

I went to school at UMASS Dartmouth.

I went to New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH. 2 minutes closer to home than the high school I went to was! LOL!

Aubrey
07-13-2006, 07:50 AM
I went to Mount Holyoke College in western MA before moving out to Indiana, which is only about 5 minutes away from where my parents live. So I definitely stayed in the area for a bit before I finally made the big move to the midwest!

~Lizzybeth~
07-13-2006, 08:23 PM
Here! All the way from Maine!!

Aubrey, when did you go to Mount Holyoke? I had a friend who was there...hmm...must have been back in 2002...and then she graduated in...2005 I guess....I went to visit her there once. The girls there are all super nice!

Aubrey
07-13-2006, 08:44 PM
Mrs.Davis, I was at MHC from 1999-2001; I moved to Indiana in August 2001 and finished my schooling there. I don't think we would have been there at the same time unless she happened to be there in 2001!

Krissy
07-13-2006, 08:46 PM
Yeah I think a couple of people I went to HS with ended up at MHC. Small world!

I miss that school now! I ended up transferring to a huge public university; the differences were huge! I am glad I got to experience two different colleges, though.

So.... Where is everyone getting married at?

Krissy
07-15-2006, 09:38 AM
Basia - Where in CT?

Well I got married in Newport, RI on the navy base there. Then had the reception in West Warwick, RI. We lived in Kittery, ME for 6 months before DH's boat moved down to Groton, CT. We lived in CT for 2 years before buying a house here in RI. He's still stationed in CT, now he just has a longer commute.

nikkiana

I'm getting married at Pats Peak which is in Henniker, NH. I sorta wanted to get married in Henniker cause it's the only one on earth!

Angela

We're getting married in our hometown--Worcester, MA. The reception will be two towns over at a restaurant.

I live in SE CT (probably not too far from Krissy), but we got married in Woodstock, CT (NE corner). I went to Lesley College in Cambridge for undergrad and my parents live in Newport, RI. I think I qualify as a New Englander!

My brother went to Amherst College and used to hang out with some Mt Holyoke women back in his day.

jillian
07-16-2006, 09:38 PM
We're getting married in Newport RI. It's a little pricey but that's where we had our first date and where he proposed. It's only right that we get married there.

Papi says: When life gives you lemons squash them with a bat.

Does anyone else love that commerical?

Krissy
07-21-2006, 03:09 PM
yeah that's a funny one. I heard it just today!

Angela
07-21-2006, 07:50 PM
Yeah, too cute! Gotta love Papi!

Though my all-time fav commercial was the Dunkin's one when we first got Schilling..."wicked...wicked HAHD"...HYSTERICAL!

And I DO talk like that. I can't say the letter R. :)

jillian
07-21-2006, 08:06 PM
LOL I think Dunkin makes the best commericals

Krissy
07-21-2006, 09:14 PM
And I DO talk like that. I can't say the letter R. :)

Me neitha. Well, I'm not too bad, but it gets worse during the school year. For some reason the kids really rub off on me.

Oh, and when I get excited and talk really fast I lose my R's. DH loves it. Sometimes he tries to imitate me. (He's from Ohio so no accent) But it just doesn't sound natural coming from him.

jillian
07-22-2006, 10:43 PM
My friend went to college in south western CT with a ton of kids from NYC and they'd always make fun of our "accents."

Angela
07-23-2006, 07:45 AM
I taught horse-back riding at a summer camp in PA one summer, and no one could understand me. It was hysterical. I tried to watch myself when I was talking to them, but they'd hear me on the phone to FH, and be like, WHAT?!?! :lol2:

Aubrey
07-24-2006, 09:47 AM
I saw and heard some of those Papi commercials last week when I was out at the Cape with my family . I miss Dunkin Donuts and Friendlys and all the Red Sox coverage!

Yummy I love Friendly's I had it yesterday!

Krissy
07-25-2006, 09:13 AM
LOL, see now, I don't like Friendly's. We have Newport Creamery here and so we never go to Friendly's. It's just not the same. heh heh

nikkiana
07-25-2006, 09:34 AM
Friendly's has gone downhill as of lately in my opinion....

jillian
07-25-2006, 11:34 AM
I like Newport Creamery too, but Friendly's is much closer.

Angela
07-25-2006, 06:09 PM
yeah, Friendly's has been gross as of late. Even the ice cream hasn't been very good.

We don't have a Newport Creamery around here anymore :(

Hi everyone-

I am a MA girl all the way- grew up on the south shore, then came to Worcester for college, and have stayed in central MA since... getting married in Princeton, on the west side of Wachusett Mountain this November. Somehow though, I can and do pronounce my R's! My first grade teacher was from out of state and didn't like the Boston accent so she practically beat the letter R into all of us!

jillian
07-30-2006, 08:22 PM
I had Newport Creamery tonight!

Mrs.Spicer, I am in Coventry. I grew up in Warwick and that is where I teach. I have friends that teach at the middle and senior high schools in Woonsocket.

Briannamarie, how could you miss us?

So, we're trying to think of what to do for New Years. My sister wants to go to first night in Boston, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I haven't been in like 6 years. Bob and I went to first night in Providence the first year we were together and then never went again. Anyone been recently?

jillian
12-26-2006, 07:53 PM
I was thinking of First Night Providence this year. I've never been. Based on you experience Krissy would you recommend it?

Angela
12-26-2006, 08:14 PM
We're staying home....I found that none of the local first nights are really worth the hassle. Then again, we're pretty boring people:hehe:

Krissy
12-26-2006, 09:07 PM
Eh, it's now called "Bright Night" here in Providence. We went the first year, it was okay. But like I said before that was like 6 years ago. They should print the schedules in the paper this week and then we'll try to decide what to do. I'm such a poop though, I'm just as happy staying home.

jillian
12-26-2006, 09:55 PM
Ehh I might just stay home too

Jill
12-26-2006, 10:00 PM
I'm a stay at home person as well. I have never been to the one in Providence, but have been to Boston a few times although not in recent years. I don't care for the crowds.

My parents have a place in Manhattan (small studio apt) and my friend and I went on NYE and we were out all day but skipped the Times Square thing, opting to be up in the apartment.

Thankfully my DH is about as boring as I am. :hehe:

Soon2beMrsSpicer

Bri
12-27-2006, 10:43 AM
Krissy - I know I saw it, but it was soooo inactive that I didn't touch it. Dunno why  oh well, I'm here now and it's getting some action so there. :p

As for New Year's, never been to a First Night... and really dunno about Boston for New Year's. I think we're waiting and seeing if Dave has to work New Year's Day or not before we figure out what we're doing.

Stitch's girl
12-30-2006, 01:28 PM
I haven't been to Boston's first night since 1992... it was fun, but it was cold, and any of the indoor things were really crowded... Nate and I are kinda lame... we will probably be asleep by 10 anyway... that usually ends up happening to us!

nikkiana
12-31-2006, 08:14 PM
I've never been to Boston's.... We wanted to go last year, but just as we were starting to leave, it started to snow really hard so we changed directions and went to Portland, ME instead.... Ended up being a HUGE mistake because they had NOTHING going on there.

jillian
01-01-2007, 07:44 AM
How was everyone's New Years?

Angela
01-01-2007, 07:57 AM
A typical boring evening for us, Jillian...how about you?

jillian
01-01-2007, 08:47 AM
We ending up going to a friends house but it was very boring for me. Basically it was a sausage party and all the guys wanted to do was to play drinking games. I'm done with drinking games, left that in college, you know. I also wasn't about to drink then drive down route 24 to get home.

We rented in Hampton for one year when we first moved out. Then we bought in Epping. They sold the house and moved to NY when I was entering my senior year of college.

Yeah, I am the same way when I hear someone is from NH. One of FH's good friends just started dating a girl from... not Ware, the other smaller town that borders right near Concord.... Anyway, we used to play them in high school and I was on all the sports teams. AND she is my age. She did play softball when I did, but I was on varisty, and she was on JV, so we didn't play each other.

Bri
01-02-2007, 01:54 PM
hmmmm so she's not from Weare... there's Dunbarton... there's Bow... there's Penacook (though that's pretty much an extension of Concord)... Boscawen... Hopkinton....

Hughto
01-02-2007, 02:36 PM
Bow. That's it! It was right on the tip of my tounge the whole time. Brain malfunction.

We beat Hopkinton in the softball state championship my junior year. :heee:

Bri
01-02-2007, 02:40 PM
Bow is where FH went to school! And he's 25! OMG! If you know her name, you should totally PM it to me, he probably knows her! weirdness. We played Bow for pretty much everything - Class I - but football, and I think hockey (we're III for both).

Angela
01-02-2007, 02:59 PM
Our videographer was Advance Video Recordings on...crap...Miller Street?

Hughto
01-02-2007, 03:03 PM
Bow was Class I? We were Class M... maybe I am thinking of the wrong school?!? Hmmm... I swore it was them. Wait, I know... I can find it out. I have a article somewhere.

ETA: OK... I think the school I was thinking about was actually Concord Christian that we played, but when she told me she was from Bow, I pictured Concord Christian (I found the newspaper article I was thinking of). I actually remember the bus getting off the Bow exit to go to their field, which might be why I am all messed up! Anyway, she is still from Bow, but I guess I never almost played against her. Boy, that was a tangent, huh?

I only met her briefly one. I think her name was Marcy or Marcia. Let me ask FH when he gets home.

And the name sounds familiar with Advance Video... but not sure.... I used to work in the video world, so I applied to many places when I was trying to move to MA.

Bri
01-02-2007, 03:23 PM
hahaha okay. Yeah there's a couple exits that will get you into Bow. There's the main one, and then there's the other one that does get you to the fields Concord Christian was using. Hmmmm class M around here... that sounds about right. I'm pretty sure Bow's been Class I since I was in HS, and I graduated in 2001.

Hughto
01-02-2007, 03:37 PM
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I am sure it was Concord Christian. I did look online and saw a pic of the school and I remember a track meet there, though that is all I can remember. It's sad that I am quickly losing my teenage memories!

Bri
01-02-2007, 03:41 PM
Naaaaah it's all good. :D

Krissy
01-02-2007, 07:43 PM
Hughto do you go to school in Waltham? Is that where Brandice is?

Hughto
01-02-2007, 08:49 PM
Yes, Brandeis is in Waltham, as is Bentley College. I didn't go to either. (Went to Ithaca College in Central NY and graduated in '02. Now I work in Burlington, MA)

Bri
01-03-2007, 01:54 PM
Um okay so seriously WTH is with this weather!?!? 50 in Concord tomorrow... whaaaaaat is this crap? Not that I'm complaining that it's warm, but, you know this whole cold/warm thing is totally gonna make people sick.

Krissy
01-03-2007, 02:08 PM
Oh I know it. Personally, I hate it. I wish it were cold! This is NOT winter!

Angela
01-03-2007, 02:13 PM
I don't miss the cold or snow, personally, though I'm sick as a dog.....I can deal with the cold, but it's nice not having to trudge to work in 3 feet of snow :)

Krissy
01-03-2007, 02:25 PM
I know what you mean, but I love me a snow day once in a while! =)

Angela
01-03-2007, 02:26 PM
Totally understandable, Krissy! :)

jillian
01-03-2007, 03:58 PM
I love snow too. I hate shoveling but I love the snow.

Hughto
01-03-2007, 04:30 PM
I love the snow on the mountains or a fresh snow on a weekend- something to ski in or just something pretty to look at. I hate being cold. I hate how it makes me feel. I love the heat and being hot. I hate driving in snow and being scared of having a car accident and being killed.

While this weather is crazy, and I enjoy the warmer weather we have been getting, it makes me so nervous. What is happening to our Earth in order for things to be so out of whack? I am not an extremist about caring about the Earth, but I do try to do my part and recycle and stuff. But I am really beginning to see the signs and really question how much more time parts of this planet have left. How much longer until Boston is under water?

jillian
01-03-2007, 04:33 PM
Kate that's a wicked scary thought.

I just bought 5 powerball tickets I hope I win.

Hughto
01-03-2007, 04:42 PM
I know! I don't normally think that way. But Aaron watches all these science shows and talk about how the Earth is like a degree warmer and how the ice caps are melting... I just need to leave the room when he watches these things I guess. I know a lot of the shows he watches can be a bit over done and alarmist, but there has got to be a lot of truth to a lot of it too.

Good luck with your lottery tickets! I hope you win too!

Nik

:wavey: Hello New Englanders!! I'm new to this board and figured I'd introduce myself.

Hi Nik!

Krissy
01-06-2007, 09:51 AM
Actually the reason our winter is so warm is because this is an El Nino winter. The same thing happened the winter of '78 and then they had that huge blizzard. I'm sure we'll get some snow eventually!

Hi Nik!

Angela
01-06-2007, 10:12 AM
Not today, though..the sun is coming out, so we're supposed to hit 70 degrees---I can't believe it!!

Hughto
01-06-2007, 10:26 AM
I know! 70 degrees! Welcome to January!

Krissy
01-06-2007, 11:14 AM
I hear ya. I was wicked sick for the past couple days. Now I'm trying to get rid of whatever bug got me.

Angela
01-06-2007, 11:55 AM
I've been home from work since Wednesday afternoon (after having Monday and Tuesday off). I never get sick like this, so I hope it goes away soon.

Krissy
01-06-2007, 12:52 PM
I would have had to call out Thursday and Friday as well. But they canceled school both days due to the bacteria going around.

Angela
01-06-2007, 01:22 PM
Oh that's right.......I saw that on the news. DH said someone's daughter (I don't have a clue who he was talking about, and was too drugged up to really care) contracted meningitis. She's in college, though. I can't believe all of these awful diseases that are going around.

Krissy
01-07-2007, 08:00 AM
Yeah it's pretty crazy!

jillian
01-07-2007, 09:38 AM
Oh yeah Krissy, I heard that on the news too. Besides closing the schools and requiring antibactical gel what are they doing?

Krissy
01-07-2007, 10:03 AM
Well they did a bunch of tests to see if all the cases are related and it looks like they're not. So as of right now we have school tomorrow!

Bri
01-07-2007, 03:13 PM
man... I walked out of the house yesterday in a long sleeved tshirt and a lightweight zipper hoodie... and said "something is seriously wrong with this" lol.

As for the El Nino winter, we learned a lot about it in Meteorology, but still it's ridiculous.

Hughto

I've been sick too. Woke up Friday with a nasty cold. Yesterday I layed on the couch all day with the windows open listening to the neighborhood kids playing outside. I wasn't too pleased about that.

I heard about those schools on the news the other night too. Hope everything is ok and everyone is ok and healthy.

I have no doubt I'll end up sick as well. I always do with drastic temperature changes.

Hughto

Yeah, it's understandable on why it can mess with our bodies. My first job when I was 15... one day it was 45 degrees, the next 90. I had been dizzy before, but that was the first time I ever got faint. I was clutching the register drawer for a minute before my boss came over and got me to sit down. I got lucky that my customer at that time didn't take money out of my drawer during this time. It was one of the weirdest things that happened to me.

I sure do miss living up there. When we wanted something cheap to do, we'd just take the T into Boston and walk and walk and walk. Maybe get some JP Licks ice cream (oh how I miss that!).

Hughto
01-23-2007, 04:01 PM
What made you move to CT?

I am a upstate New Yorker and after college got a job that brought me to CT. I loved Vernon. Had a great gym there and the walking trail was right by my place. Came to MA because fh was living here and we were sick of the long distance relationship thing.

I grew up in CT (we moved here when I was in 2nd grade). I went to Mount Ida College...on campus for the first 2 and in an apartment for the last 2. I wanted to move someplace warm when I graduated but jobs were tough to find and the one I found was back in CT.

AHHHH im having alot of trouble finding reception sites. I had one that I was set on but we have NOOO time to set up like 30 mins before reception and that starts at 6 and were getting married at 5 so theres no way to set up at 530 then UGHHHHHH im so mad. Anyways my question is anyone have any ideas for places im trying to stay in the woonsocket/lincoln/providence area?

Krissy
01-30-2007, 05:23 AM
Wait, you don't have ANYONE who could set up during the ceremony?

I dont have anyone I trust everyone that I know that will actually do it right will be at the ceromony. Last night Jon told me to call them and ask about tent receptions and if they allow that to fing out what time we can start setting that up. If they let us start the night before or that morning then it will be good. I looked at the westin too Jon wanted it there but the cheapest plate is 97 i think PP and that isnt in our budget anymore.

Can I join? I'm from about a half an hour west of Danbury, CT. And there is either the NYC/LI folks or the Upstate NY folks would laugh at me if I say that I'm from up state.

Hughto
01-31-2007, 08:24 PM
Of course you can. And since my wedding is in upstate NY...I wouldn't laugh at you, though I am way upstate. You more or less laugh at me for what I consider upstate!

Mandy&Nick
01-31-2007, 08:27 PM
Ok, Lake George... Been there we would take our boat up there and camp when I was very young. What do you consider upstate? I had a friend/co-worker who was from Elizabethtown/Plattburgh and he used to laugh if I spoke that I was from upstate. If you think about it nearly everyone upstate in comparison to NYC. Perhaps the better term would be New York State although some like Western New York etc. That way your not talking about NYC.

My extended family is from Indiana, when I was a kid and visiting if you didn't say NY State they asked where your accent was/is.

Hughto
01-31-2007, 08:33 PM
Being that I grew up in Lake George, NY... I consider NYC the city, southern NY as down state or outside the city, out in the middle of NY as central NY, Buffalo area as Western, NY, Plattsburg as Northern NY, and obviously where I am from as Upstate.

I went to college in central NY- Ithaca, NY. They consider that upstate. I have a friend from Poughkeepsie. That is upstate for him. My friend from Buffalo- upstate. My great aunt from white plains is from upstate as well.

Mandy&Nick
02-01-2007, 05:47 AM
I would consider everything north of Westchester as Upstate/NY State because everyone thinks of NYC first and tends to forgets the rest of the state exists. Although you could probably consider Dutchess Country/Lower Hudson Valley as part of that conglomerate of urban sprawl as well now that real estate is booming so much that the farmland that I remember is quickly disappearing to housing developments.

Mandy&Nick
02-01-2007, 05:53 AM
Ironically, that co-worker of mine from Plattsburgh who laughs at me about being upstate, I just found out today is now here in this country with me, he's stationed at another base but he's in this country, what a small world. He must have recently moved here from California where we worked together.

Today is nice and sunny at least.

Nikkiana has seen it already (in my journal on another site)~here's a picture of her in the one she got!

It was okay. The saleslady was a bit older and had an accent (not sure from where). She didn't seem too pushy about anything actually.

Thanks for looking, Ladies!

OK, ladies I have a question for ya!

I'm heading back to New Hampshire in April for my bridal shower. While I am there I would like to take advantage of the lack of sales tax so I plan on shopping for my BM's jewelery. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should look more specifically in the Nashua - Manchester area?

TIA!

Hmm.... I can't think of anything in Nashua / Manchester other than chains.... Though, I think there's a few locally owned ones in downtown Manchester.... If you're willing to come up to Concord, I really like Capitol Craftsman & Romance Jewelers..... Though, if you come to Concord you'll have to let me know so I can come into town and meet up with you. :laugh3:

Hughto

I would say take a cruise through the malls. Pheasant Lane and The Mall of New Hampshire should have something inside them... perhaps even at one of the carts in the middle of the mall. A lot of the malls have these new jewelry stores that have a lot of bridal like jewelry in them too... so I am sure you would run into that at one of the malls.

Sabby12s

FH and I went to the local mall here today and I saw a lot of nice jewelery. I know the same stores are at the Pheasant Lane Mall and The Mall of New Hampshire so I'll definitely be shopping there when I go back.

Nikkiana ~ I think I've been to Concord once since our 4th grade class trip to the state capitol. LOL!
